Program InformationOverview of Echo HawaiiEcho Hawaii presents the latest information on established andemerging cardiovascular ultrasound technologies. Expert U.S.and international faculty discuss state-of-the-art technologieswith a particular focus on how they can be effectively appliedin the clinical setting. Case-based approaches are used todiscuss new and established uses of echocardiography fordiagnosis and guiding management in patients with a broadarray of cardiovascular conditions. Topics include: advancedassessment of systolic and diastolic function, 3D/4D imaging, adult congenital heart disease, contemporary approaches tovalve disease, guidance of interventional procedures, contrastechocardiography, ischemic heart disease and aortic pathology.Special sessions are available for sonographer education andlaboratory quality improvement.ObjectivesUpon completion of this program, participants will be better able to: Integrate echocardiographic information in clinical decision making. Assess ventricular and valvular function using Doppler hemodynamics. Describe Doppler assessment of diastolic function/dysfunction. Explain new advances in the echocardiographic assessment of leftand right ventricular function. Integrate echocardiographic assessment of cardiomyopathies andsystemic diseases in patient management. Define clinical uses of TEE and 3D echocardiography. Evaluate the usefulness and limitations of stress echocardiography. Recognize the role of echo contrast and be able to incorporate itsuse in the echo laboratory. Integrate echo information in the management of valvular heartdisease.Who Should Attend? This course is designed for adult cardiologists, cardiovascularsurgeons, cardiovascular anesthesiologists, fellows in training, cardiovascular sonographers, internists, and intensive care specialistswith special interest in clinical cardiology and echocardiography.Accreditation and DesignationThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordancewith the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Councilfor Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorshipof the American Society of Echocardiography and the AmericanSociety of Echocardiography Education and Research Foundation. The American Society of Echocardiography is accredited by theACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Society of Echocardiography designates this liveactivity for a maximum of 29.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with theextent of their participation in the activity.ARDMS and CCI recognize ASE’s certificates and have agreedto honor the credit hours toward their registry requirements forsonographers. All or a portion of this educational activity may meet the CMErequirement for IAC Echocardiography accreditation. The American Society of Echocardiography is committedto ensuring that its educational mission and all sponsorededucational programs are not influenced by the special interestsof any corporation or individual, and its mandate is to retain onlythose speakers whose financial interests can be effectively resolvedto maintain the goals and educational integrity of the program. While a monetary or professional affiliation with a corporationdoes not necessarily influence a speaker’s presentation, theEssential Areas and policies of the ACCME require that anyrelationships that could possibly conflict with the educationalvalue of the program be resolved prior to the educational sessionand disclosed to the audience.A New Learning OpportunityThe Maintenance of Certification (MOC) session will bean early bird session on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, andThursday, January 23, 2014.
