PrefaceThis TechBook is intended as an introduction to EMC’s compatibilityfeatures for IBM’s Advanced Copy Services technologies. Its primaryfunction is to provide EMC personnel and customers in pre-sales or earlyimplementation activities a quick guide to the configuration and operationsof PPRC, XRC, and FlashCopy compatibility features as they are supportedby EMC. In addition, overview of common deployments of the AdvancedCopy Services features and the degree of EMC’s compliance with thosefeatures is provided, noting when relevant departures in compatibility occur. This TechBook provides the reader with functional insight into EMC’s rolein the deployment and operations of GDPS.As part of an effort to improve and enhance the performance and capabilitiesof its product lines, EMC periodically releases revisions of its hardware andsoftware. Therefore, some functions described in this document may not besupported by all versions of the software or hardware currently in use. Forthe most up-to-date information on product features, refer to your productrelease notes. If a product does not function properly or does not function asdescribed in this document, contact your EMC representative.AudienceThis TechBook assumes some familiarity with the Symmetrix line ofstorage systems and EMC’s native remote copy technology. It is theintention of this manual to document the methodology of a remotecopy implementation with EMC’s compatible copy servicesmicrocode features: pre-sales, customer consulting, GDPSimplementation, and initial problem determination aid. The materialswithin do not assume that Symmetrix features will be employed in asystems managed solution (such as GDPS).EMC Compatibility Features for IBM Copy Services on z/OS TechBook15
