Over the course of 4 weekends, a team of 12 Knights of Columbus members and other volunteers worked underthe direction of Parish Facilities Committee leader Russ Conway to transform the “curb appeal” of our parish:5 trees and multiple bushes were cut down and trunks removed, 24 tons of gravel and 40 tons of dirt wereremoved and used as fill elsewhere on the property. The old irrigation system and underground electrical systemwere removed and new piping & wiring installed. Professional installers were hired only to place pavers, theartificial grass, and to create a new parish sign. The overall project was completed for only one third the originalcost estimate. Thank you all who contributed to the success of this project to provide a morewelcoming front entrance! Why we do observe Easter II Sunday as“Divine Mercy Sunday”? ¿Por qué observamos el II Domingo de Pascua como el“Domingo de la Divina Misericordia”? As a gift to humanity, which sometimes seems bewildered and overwhelmed by the power of evil, selfishness, and fear, the Risen Lord offers His love thatpardons, reconciles, and reopens hearts to love. It isa love that converts hearts and gives peace. Howmuch the world needs to understand and accept Divine Mercy! Lord, who reveals the Father’s love byYour death and Resurrection; we believe in You andconfidently repeat to You today: Jesus, I trust in You,have mercy upon us and upon the whole world. (St.Pope John Paul II). Mercy is the central nucleus of the Gospel message.It is the very name of God, the Face with which herevealed himself in the Old Covenant and fully inJesus Christ, the incarnation of creative and redemptive Love. This past Holy Week we experienced themerciful redeeming love of God. There are variousreasons why we celebrate the Divine Mercy Sundayimmediately after Easter Sunday. 1) Jesus demonstrated the divine mercy of God hisHeavenly Father by his preaching and healing ministry. 2) He instructed his apostles and followers to love others as he loved by sharing mercy, compassion and sacrificial love. 3) Jesus instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation asthe sacrament expressing God’s mercy for repentantsinners by offering them pardon and forgiveness. 4) For centuries in liturgy the Church has proclaimedthe mercy of God through the Word of God and theSacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ. 5) The main inspiration behind the Divine Mercy devotion are the messages received by St. Faustina duringher mystical visions. On the Second Sunday of Easter of the Jubilee Year2000, at the Mass for the canonization of the Polish nunSt. Faustina Kowalska, Pope John Paul II proclaimed tothe world that “from now on throughout the Church thisSunday will be called Divine Mercy Sunday.” Besides,In his 1980 encyclical on God’s mercy, Rich in Mercy,he developed a scriptural and doctrinal basis for ourfaith in the mercy of God. 6) The Divine Mercy Sunday is meant to strengthen ourpeople’s trust in God’s mercy. 7) The Divine Mercy devotion fosters the virtue of trustin God’s mercy that finds its fulfillment in the liturgy ofReconciliation and the Holy Eucharist. Let us continueto pray for the Mercy of God on each of us and especially on the whole world in these troubling times. Fr. Hay varias razones por las que celebramos el Domingo de la DivinaMisericordia inmediatamente después del Domingo dePascua. 1) Jesús demostró la divina misericordia de Dios su Padre Celestial a través de su predicación y ministerio desanación. 2) Instruyo a sus apóstoles y seguidores a amar a losdemás como él amó compartiendo su misericordia,compasión y amor sacrificial. 3) Jesús instituyó el Sacramento de la Reconciliacióncomo el sacramento que expresa la misericordia de Diospor los pecadores arrepentidos ofreciéndoles perdón. 4) Durante siglos, en la liturgia, la Iglesia ha proclamado la misericordia de Dios a través de la Palabra deDios y el Sacramento del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. 5) La inspiración principal detrás de la devoción de laDivina Misericordia son los mensajes recibidos porSanta Faustina durante sus visiones místicas. El Segundo Domingo de Pascua del Año Jubilar 2000,en la Misa de canonización de la monja polaca SantaFaustina Kowalska, el Papa Juan Pablo II proclamó almundo que “a partir de ahora en toda la Iglesia este domingo se llamará Domingo de la Divina Misericordia."Además, en su encíclica de 1980 sobre la misericordiade Dios, Rico en Misericordia”, desarrolló una base bíblica y doctrinal para nuestra fe en la misericordia deDios. 6) El Domingo de la Divina Misericordia está destinadoa fortalecer la confianza de nuestro pueblo en la misericordia de Dios. 7) La devoción a la Divina Misericordia fomenta la virtud de la confianza en la misericordia de Dios que encuentra su cumplimiento en la liturgia de la Reconciliación y la Sagrada Eucaristía. Sigamos orando por la Misericordia de Dios sobre cada uno de nosotros y especialmente sobre el mundo entero en estos tiempos angustiosos.
