EBCF 2019 was a hugelysuccessful year in terms of feedback, numbers and fun. We had to ask ourselves: howdo we top that? Well a lot of creative thinking has gone into the 2020 programmeand we are delighted to present this rich, diverse and exciting suite of events toyou, a chance for book lovers to come together in the medieval town of Ennisto celebrate reading and books.This year we will host one of the best contemporary novelists in Sarah Moss. Lemn Sissaywill be here, as well as novelists Emer McLysaght, Sarah Breen, Rachael English andHilary Fannin. We have travel writing covered with Rosita Boland. Interested in politics?Come hear diplomat Bobby McDonagh speak. If the environment is your thing, why notbreak bread with Éanna Ní Lamhna at our literary lunch? We’re not forgetting our festivalfavourites: 10 Books You Should Read is back with Ruth Gilligan and Neil Hegarty, and we’redelighted to host Sunday Miscellany once again. And there’s poetry, music, the personalads, and multi-media installations.The Beyond Borders Book Club has gone from strength to strength. It’s now in its third yearand we celebrate the anthology Correspondences, a publication which calls for an end todirect provision. Clare Youth Theatre are here again, and we’ve got events for children,young people, and families. You can go to yoga, and book making workshops, as well astalks on dealing with anxiety, and well-being. And if that wasn’t enough, we have a Burrenwalking tour lined up for you. In a festival first, we have also commissioned writer MiaGallagher to curate work from the Arts Council Collection which will be exhibited in glór.Mia will write a story based on the art she chose, and she will perform the story at thefestival. And don’t forget the chats and the wonderful warm atmosphere to share yourinterest in books and reading.All this is made possible by our dedicated volunteers on the organising team and those whohelp out over the Festival weekend. We are grateful for the support of the Arts Council,Clare County Council, in particular the County Library service, local businesses and mostimportantly, all of you who come and enjoy the Festival. Our aim is to give people the opportunity tosee artwork by some of the country’s best artists and to follow the creative journey of theproject. Mia Gallagher’s debut novel, HellFire, was widely acclaimed and received the IrishTatler Women of the Year Literature Award in 2007, while her award-winning short fictionhas been widely published and anthologised, and collected in her collection Shift.
