Statement of ProblemThe client, Pellucidar, is the industry leader for total heating, cooling and water heating solutions. Theyare headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and have manufacturing plants in Fort Smith, Arkansas; Mobile,Alabama; Victorville, California and Minnetonka, Minnesota.Pellucidar is anticipating a 15% expansion in not only sales, but also in warehouse stock, transactions, employee headcount, and number of customers. In order to accommodate this growth, Pellucidar ismoving headquarters. The new space will have a larger space to house sales and support staff. Pellucidarneeds to upgrade its systems as well as expand its network. They need to modernize their informationinfrastructure so sales associates will have quick access to data, the processing time of receiving acustomer’s request to shipment will decrease, and turnaround time and level of customer satisfaction willincrease.Executive SummaryPellucidar is the leading name in total heating, cooling and water heating solutions. They are expandingso quickly that they are looking to move into a bigger space. They are falling behind some competitors onthings like turnaround time of product orders. This is due to the fact that their information infrastructure isoutdated. They need to revamp their networks to add value back to the company and firmly situate theirplace in front of competitors. If they keeps their current infrastructure, they risk losing customers. Thisgoes against their core values. Pellucidar’s values are “customer satisfaction is paramount”, “integrity isour way of life”, “innovation drives a winning performance”, and “our success depends on collaboration”.Network Design Incorporated wants to address the concerns of Pellucidar. We aim to ensure thatPellucidar practices its core values. Our innovative network designs will not only meet Pellucidar’sexpectations but exceed them. Our proposal details the network design we envision for Pellucidar. We have a WAN, wired LAN, and awireless LAN overlay written out. All of the hardware, software, and costs needed are listed out. Wediagram out where the access points in the wireless LAN will be located, what channels are to be used, and why we are using those channels. The measurements and speeds of the equipments are detailed out aswell. The proposal will delve more into the particulars of the network design. We hope to achievemaximum customer satisfaction with our design. Our goal is to help Pellucidar achieve their goals.Pellucidar Network Design and Build Proposal2

Vendor ProfileBackgroundNetwork Design Incorporated is a network design and engineering company. Our clientele rangesanywhere from small sized to large corporations. Some of our main services include designing andimplementing LANs and WANs. Our goal is to improve our clients’ performance and employeesatisfaction.CEO and founder, Oliver Larson, started Network Design Inc. in 2007 after he graduated from theGeorgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Computer Science. Though the company may berelatively young, we have already taken on some high profile clients in recent years. We began withsmaller companies and startups that needed simple network implementation. From there, we moved tomuch bigger companies after word spread about the quality of our service. One of our biggest clients wasJC Nickel’s.Along with that, we have comprehensive referral programs that allow us to get a lot of visibility withcompanies. We use the most up-to-date technologies and processes when we implement our networkdesigns.Pending Litigation Against VendorThere is currently no pending litigation against us. We have taken on some extensive projects, and welook to completely satisfy our customers’ needs. No major problems have been reported to date. We havedetailed contingency plans drafted in case of possible future litigation.Experience with Similar ProjectsAs mentioned above, our biggest client was JC Nickel’s. They own approximately 120 retail stores acrossthe United States of America. We were brought on to do a complete overhaul of their network. They hadoutdated systems and needed a revamp on nearly everything. Like Pellucidar, JC Nickel’s needed a designof WAN connectivity of their retail stores, but JC Nickel’s was on a much larger scale. We were cateringto 120 retail stores. We also needed to implement a wired LAN and a wireless LAN overlay for theirmulti-story office building in Denver, Colorado. Once again, the office building was much larger thanPellucidar’s. Network Design Inc. addressed every hardware, software, security, legal, and performancerequirement of JC Nickel’s. We also designed it in a way that allowed for future expansion of theheadquarters, a situation somewhat similar to Pellucidar’s. This was the biggest project that NetworkDesign Inc. has taken on to date, and it was wildly successful. We still have a great partnership with JCNickel’s. This is the level of service that would be provided to Pellucidar.Pellucidar Network Design and Build Proposal3

Email: hans.halbert@networkdesigninc.comPhone: 345-678-1558Conflict Resolution ProcedureWe will provide extensive training for all parties involved in the implementation of the new network interms of conflict resolution. We want to ensure that, should any conflict arise during the implementationprocess, it is resolved in a timely and effective manner. In the event that there are any issues regarding theinfrastructure of the new network, the key personnel involved in this project should be contacted. Thepreferred form of communication is email, however if the issue is of timely concern please feel free to callusing the phone numbers provided. In the event that we do receive an email/call during theimplementation of the new network we will ensure that proper protocol is followed. The protocol to befollowed includes all network administrators and project managers meeting with the POC and all otherrelevant parties through teleconference to resolve the issue in order to minimize confusion and increasetransparency. If there is a change in the original agreed upon network layout and infrastructure it will benoted by at least one PM and two NA’s in addition to the assigned POC and sent in written form to allrelevant parties going forward. Should there be no resolution to the issue then both parties willre-evaluate their position to move forward with said network implementation. In the event there is conflict between employees of Network Design Incorporated and employees ofPellucidar there will be a re-assignment of personnel if needed. This will only occur in instances in whichthe majority of personnel involved agree that a reassignment is the most effective solution. Allreassignments will be noted by at least one PM and sent in written form to all relevant parties involved. Inorder to ensure that conflict resolution is effective throughout the process, all personnel involved willhave the opportunity to provide feedback via a survey sent by email.Details of Proposed WorkAt Network Design Incorporated we value efficiency and effectiveness and use these to create innovationin areas possible. For our proposed network implementation we include innovative solutions that willultimately create positive change within Pellucidar. First, we plan to enable communication within all ofyour locations using a Mesh network. We will work with a Tier 2 provider to ensure this connection isstable and effective. In terms of the expected LAN requirements, we plan to incorporate both wired andwireless LANs. For the wired LAN, we will use twisted pair wires and include a total of 40 16 portswitches (20/floor), and arrange them so that each switch has no more than 8 connections each. This willallow us to expand to twice the size of connected computers in the case of future expansion. In terms ofwireless, 48 WiFi access points are included in the wireless LANs, with 24 in each floor in order tominimize the amount of dead zones. Channels 1,6, and 11 are chosen to minimize interference andpersonnel is divided into groups, including: administration, manufacturing, and sales to identify theindividual requirements of each.Pellucidar Network Design and Build Proposal5

In all, our proposed plan includes network infrastructure that we feel will benefit Pellucidar significantlyand take into account any possible expansion that may occur in the future. We also consider security andsupport services in addition to our network infrastructure and offer solutions in regards to ensuring that allimportant information is kept secure. Lastly, we provide a detailed cost assessment to increasetransparency in terms of pricing as well as a timeline with an expected end date that is two weeks beforethe desired deadline.Response to RequirementsWAN RequirementsBelow you will find our design for the WAN requirements. All hardware used by Pellucidar, Inc.should also require password changes every two months with the same strict guidelines (3 specialcharacters, two uppercase letters, and his/her PIN). If Pellucidar employees continue to use a virtualprivate network, VPN security must also be enforced to ensure protection of private and confidentialinformation.
