In a similarway to Zodiac signs in the west, theChinese calendar includes symbolsfor whole years. 2015 is the Year ofgoat. This year, the Chinese New Yearwas celebrated by students ofChinese to increase an understandingand appreciation of Chinese culture(the celebration of Chinese New Yearis not associated with any particularreligion in China). Years Reception toYear 10 students did activities such ascoloring, watching films, readingstories, listening to traditional music,and other different activities to learnabout the celebration of the New Yearin China. This proved a memorableand authentic cultural experience forall students.Issue 2 March2015Year 3 to 5 students made sweetdumplings with sticky rice powder andred bean paste. Sweet dumpling is atypical food for Yuanxiao festival,which is on the last day of ChineseNew Year (15th of the first Lunarmonth). Year Reception to year 2students were very happy to tastedumplings in their class!The students all enjoyed the activitiesand it was fantastic to see theycooperate with each other well in theactivities.
