6Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat’s covered? Peter Vardy Warranty provides an extensivelevel of protection – please refer to the ‘What is covered’ sectionon page 8.What’s not covered? Consumable items such as brake padsor discs, tyres, oils and fluids, batteries and exhausts aren’tcovered by Peter Vardy Warranty – please refer to the ‘What isnot covered’ section on page 8.Is labour covered? Yes – Peter Vardy Warranty covers parts,labour and VAT as outlined in your Policy Document.Can I use my usual dealer to get my car repaired? PeterVardy Warranty recommends that you use your usual Peter Vardydealer to have your car fixed but you can use another repairer ifnecessary – all that we ask is that the repairer is VAT-registered.If you’re unsure, we’d recommend your usual franchised dealeror the dealer you bought your car from. Your repairer will be ableto manage any claim for you and we’ll liaise directly with yourrepairer to authorise and pay for valid repairs. If a claim’s valid,there’s nothing else for you to pay.What are the servicing requirements? Your car has to beserviced in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer’sguidelines. Throughout the warranty period a VAT-registeredgarage must carry out all servicing. Services must be carried outwithin 500 miles/four weeks of the intervals specified by thevehicle manufacturer, whichever comes first. We recommend youuse your usual Peter Vardy dealer to have your car serviced.How soon can I make a valid claim? You can make a validclaim as soon as your policy is registered with us – there’s nowaiting period before a claim can be made. We can’t coverclaims if the failure already existed when your policy wasregistered though.Is recovery included? Yes – Peter Vardy Renewal Warrantyincludes 12 months’ roadside assistance cover as standard.What happens if my car breaks down abroad? If youbreakdown abroad, you should have the car fixed locally andthen contact us on your return to the UK to arrange for anyreimbursement. Please ensure you obtain a full receipt for anywork carried out. Unfortunately, we can’t liaise or authoriserepairs directly with repairers overseas.What if I change my mind? If you change your mind, you havethe right to cancel the warranty within 30 days of purchase.Should you wish to cancel within this period please contact uson 0344 573 8005 and speak to our customer services team. Check your tyre pressures every week – a 2-minute job thatcan save you money on tyre and suspension wear and canmake your car more fuel efficient Top up your screen wash every week – a clean windscreen isa safe windscreen Check your oil every fortnight – top up with the right gradeif necessary to help prevent early wear of key enginecomponents. Your vehicle owner’s handbook will tell youwhich grade to use Check your lights weekly – blown bulbs are usually simpleand cheap to replace and will help you see and be seen.7

8Peter Vardy Warranty CoverVehicles up to ten years/100,000 miles at the date ofwarranty purchaseThis warranty covers almost all mechanical and electrical parts(including labour to fit them), of the covered vehicle againstmechanical and electrical breakdown as defined below.There is no restriction to the number of claims you can make,up to an overall aggregate claim limit which is no more than thevalue of the vehicle at the time of purchase.Mechanical or electrical breakdown is the failure of a component,causing a sudden stoppage of its function, for a reasonother than wear and tear, normal deterioration or negligence.Damage caused by the effect of overheating is not regarded asa mechanical or electrical breakdown under the terms of thewarranty.You are covered only for the parts described in this handbook.Your warranty does not cover more than the manufacturer’s listprice for parts. Repairs must not start without the prior approvalof Peter Vardy Warranty Administration.What is coveredYour Peter Vardy Warranty covers almost all mechanical andelectrical components on your vehicle, for mechanical andelectrical breakdown, subject to the conditions detailed inthis handbook and the maximum claim limit. There are somecomponents, such as service items, which are not covered.What is not coveredWhilst you have a high level of warranty cover available, there arecertain items which this warranty specifically does not cover andthis includes, but is not limited to, the following: Body components such as strikers, hinges or any componentwhich may require adjustment from time to time Body panels, paintwork or glass Interior trim Recharging of the air conditioning unit and any generalsoftware upgrades (unless required as part of a valid repair) Renewal of brake components due to wear and tear orconstant use of the brakes Renewal of any clutch components due to wear, incorrectadjustment or misuse The clearing of fuel lines, filters, throttle body and pumpsand damage to components due to the use of incorrect orcontaminated fuel

Peter Vardy Warranty Cover (continued) Airbags, wiring and connections, batteries, bulbs, LEDillumination, exhaust systems, diesel particulate filters, wiperblades, wheel balancing and alignment, wheels, tyres andwater ingress (including damage to covered parts caused bywater) Oil leaks, lubricants, filter elements and any damage causedby frost or lack of anti-freeze, impact, accident or negligence Traffic management system, satellite navigation system,telephone including Bluetooth, TV and associated equipmentof all types Non-factory fitted radio cassette, CD player or any otherin-car entertainment component Normal maintenance services, and the replacement of suchitems as, but not limited to, spark plugs and plug leads Weather strips and body seals Burnt out, sticking or pitted valves Damage resulting from the failure of a timing belt which hasnot been replaced as per the manufacturer’srecommendations (proof required).Please note that oil, oil filter, gaskets, anti-freeze and brake fluidrequired due to the failure of a covered component are covered.9

10Policy Premium PaymentsCover is available as an annual policy with a single upfrontpayment or via monthly instalments.Where you have selected to purchase your product via monthlyinstalments, you have entered into an agreement to purchase anannual policy, spreading the cost over interest free instalments.You are required to continue to pay your instalments until allmonies owed have been paid.The cover level provided when opting to pay by monthlyinstalments is identical to that of an annual policy. You must paythe premium every month on or before the date when it is due.Payment is required for the full premium of your policy subject tothe cancellation terms. Should you fail to pay a monthly premiumwhen it is due, all cover will cease immediately from that date.Where you have made a claim against the policy, you will beasked to continue to make your monthly instalment payments.Warranty ConditionsThe conditions of this warranty are set out below. Warrantyrepairs will only be carried out if you agree to these conditions.Please take time to read them.1 It is your responsibility to decide whether to authorise thedismantling of your vehicle or any covered component. Theadministrator will only accept the cost of dismantling if it ispart of an authorised warranty repair.2 The administrator is not liable for any statement orrepresentation which contradicts the conditions of thiswarranty unless the statement or representation is supportedin writing by the administrator.3 If the warranty repair is not carried out by Peter Vardy thewarranty repair cost will not be more than the manufacturer’slist prices for parts. Parts which can only be sourced fromoutside the UK will be reimbursed at the UK price of anequivalent part. Labour costs that are necessary to repairthose parts will be reimbursed as per the repairer’s warrantylabour rate and actual repair times will be limited to those inthe latest Glass’s Guide ICME manual or the manufacturer’srecommended repair times. With every claim you make, youmust provide a VAT receipt from the repairer authorised tocarry out the repair.

Warranty Conditions (continued)4 If you don’t follow the manufacturer’s service schedules ormaintain the vehicle as recommended by the manufacturer,this warranty will not apply to the extent that the fault wasthe result of failure to comply with either the service ormaintenance recommendations. When you have your vehicleserviced, you are allowed 500 miles either side of the servicemileage or four weeks either side of the time period given,whichever comes first. It is important that you retain yourservice receipts as they may be required to validate anyrepair request you make. Please note that in the absence ofservicing your vehicle at a Peter Vardy location, it must beserviced by a VAT registered dealer unless the ‘Dealer’ hasagreed otherwise.5 This warranty is valid for breakdown in the United Kingdom(which includes Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the ChannelIslands and the Isle of Man). The warranty is also valid whilstyour vehicle is outside the United Kingdom but within theEuropean Union or EFTA for up to 60 days per annum.6 The administrator reserves the right to provide replacementparts and to carry out repairs under this warranty or toarrange for their provision by other persons.7 We hope you are happy with the cover this policy provides. Ifafter reading your policy document, however, this insurancecover does not meet with your requirements, you have theright to cancel the warranty within 30 days of purchase.Should you wish to cancel within this period, please contactthe administrator on 0344 573 8005 for a refund of anypremium you are entitled to. If you wish to cancel your policy after this 30-day period, youmay cancel your policy at any time and receive a pro ratarefund of your premium based on the number of wholemonths remaining subject to the deduction of a cancellationfee of 20. Requests for cancellation outside of the first30 days from purchase should be made by contacting theadministrator on 0344 573 8005 or in writing to:Peter Vardy Warranty Administration, Jubilee House,5 Mid Point Business Park, Thornbury,West Yorkshire BD3 7AG. There will be no refund entitlement under the followingcircumstances:In the last 30 days of coverIf you have made a claim here the warranty has been transferred from the originalWpurchaser.11

12Warranty Conditions (continued) If you have paid for your policy by instalment paymentsthrough an instalment agreement with Car Care Plan Limited,any refund amount owed to you will be calculated in line withthe following rules: Where you have paid all the instalment payments, we willcalculate the refund as above. The refund will be paid directlyto you. Where you have NOT paid all the instalment payments, wewill calculate the refund as above and:1. I f the refund you are eligible for is in excess of the totaloutstanding instalment payments you owe Car Care PlanLimited, we will pay the difference directly to you; or2. I f the refund you are eligible for is less than the totaloutstanding instalment payments you owe Car Care PlanLimited, you will not receive a cash refund. The refundwill be applied as part payment of your total outstandinginstalment payments. You will continue to be responsible for paying the remainingoutstanding payments on your instalment agreement withCar Care Plan Limited until the balance calculated at the timeof notice of cancellation received by the administrator hasbeen settled.8 This warranty does not cover the following:a ny vehicle where the speedometer or odometer hasAbeen interfered with, altered or disconnected.b epairs, replacements or alterations not authorised byRthe Administrator.c Routine servicing or maintenance of a vehicle.d epairs to vehicles which have been modified andRthat modification has contributed to the failure or hasfailed itself.e ny vehicle used for hire or reward such as taxis, courier,Adelivery or driving school vehicles, or any commercialvehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight of more than 3.5tonnes or a vehicle used in any sort of competition,including track days, rally or racing.f ehicles that are used in a public service capacity (e.g.Vpolice vehicles or ambulances).g he gradual reduction in operating performance of anyTpart (fair wear and tear) due to the age of the vehicle and/or the number of miles it has covered.h ny liability for death, bodily injury, or damage to otherAproperty or any loss caused directly or indirectly by theclaim or event giving rise to a claim under this warrantyprovided that this exclusion shall not apply to any deathor bodily injury caused by negligence of the Dealer ofits agents.i Any damage which is due to any type of accident. Please allow up to 28 days for your cancellation and refund tobe processed.

Warranty Conditions (continued)j ny damage which is a direct result of negligence or ofAany wilful act by you or any third party other than theDealer or its agents.k ny parts which are replaced as part of normal servicingArequirements.l ny damage to parts which are being recalled by theAvehicle’s manufacturer or which have design faults.m A ny failure caused by faults which a qualified engineerthinks could have existed before the warranty began.n ny damage to components due to the use ofAcontaminated or incorrect fuel.o omponents/repairs covered by any other existingCwarranties or insurances.9 This contract shall be governed by and construed inaccordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any and alldisputes arising in relation to this contract shall be submittedto the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.10 Nothing in these conditions will reduce your statutoryrights relating to faulty or mis-described goods. For furtherinformation about your statutory rights contact your localTrading Standards Department or Citizens Advice Bureau.11 The warranty period appears on the Validation Certificatewhich will be sent to you once the warranty has beenregistered. The warranty will expire on the date or mileageshown in this letter, whichever occurs first. It should be noted that in the absence, for whatever reason,of the standard manufacturer’s warranty period, the start dateand expiry date of this warranty will remain unchanged fromthat detailed in the Validation Certificate.13

14MOT Test InsurancePeter Vardy MOT Test Insurance covers the cost of repair,replacement and/or adjustment to the vehicle of the specifiedparts listed which are covered as a direct consequence of suchparts being cited in a “Notification of refusal to issue an MOTcertificate” (form VT30) prepared during the period of cover, ascausing the vehicle to fail its MOT test. Accidental damage is notcovered under this MOT Test Insurance. This MOT Test Insurancecover only applies provided that your MOT Test is due and iscompleted during the period of cover provided by the Warranty.Only one MOT Test Insurance claim is permissible during theduration of the Warranty.COVER INCLUDES:Lamps, Reflectors and Electrical EquipmentLamps including Xenon, High Intensity Discharge (HID), LightEmitting Diodes (LED), reflectors, indicators, bulbs, headlamplevelling and cleaning devices (when fitted for HID or LEDheadlamps) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) arecovered for failure due to: Breakage, discolouration, electricalfailure, misalignment, water ingress and corrosion. Failure of thehorn. Battery retaining bracket/stay/support for failure due toinsecurity (please note the battery is not a covered item).Switches, instrument panel, warning lights and wiring arespecifically excluded.Steering and SuspensionManual and power steering units, operation of steering lock(where fitted), drag links, track rods/ends, transmission shafts,Constant Velocity (CV) joints and boots, shock absorbers, roadsprings, wishbones, anti-roll bar links, swivel joints, mountingsand bushes, sub-frames and wheel bearings are covered forfailure due to: Wear, seizure, leakage, and insecurity. Steeringwheel for cracks or fractures.BrakesBrake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, calipers, discs, drums,electronic parking brake control, Electronic Stability Control(ESC) components, load compensator, Anti-lock Braking System(ABS), modulator/sensors/computers and brake pipes, hoses,cables are covered for failure due to wear, leakage, seizure,splits/cracks, corrosion, adjustment and electrical failure. Brakefrictional material is excluded.Seat Belts and Supplementary Restraint System (SRS)Mountings, belts, retractors and buckles, SRS componentsincluding airbags, seat belt pretensioners and seat belt limitersare covered for failure due to wear, non-function and insecurity.Body, Structure and General ItemsVehicle structure is covered for corrosion. Any component covered by any other existing warrantiesor insurances. Any loss to the Warranty Holder in excess of the maximumclaim liability. Liability that would not have attached to the Company underany agreement or contract had that contract or agreement notbeen in force. Any liability for death, bodily injury, or damage to otherproperty or any consequential loss of whatsoever naturearising directly or indirectly from the claim or event giving riseto a claim under this MOT Test Insurance.

MOT Test Insurance – How to ClaimSimply take your vehicle to the nearest Peter Vardy retailer orservice centre and hand over:1 This warranty booklet and your Registration Confirmation Letter.2 Proof of servicing.3 The previous valid MOT Certificate (if applicable) and thenotification of refusal to issue an MOT Certificate (VT30) citingthe reasons for failure. The retailer will then take responsibilityfor establishing that the parts involved in the repair, deemednecessary by the “Notification of refusal to issue an MOTCertificate” (VT30), are covered by this MOT Test Insurance.The retailer will be responsible for obtaining prior authorisationfrom the Administration Claims Department.Claims telephone number: 0344 573 8005.Important: No repair should commence until the AdministrationClaims Department has given authorisation. When, and if, thevehicle is granted an MOT Certificate (VT20) the retailer willforward a copy of a completed:Repair invoice. Old MOT Certificate and the “Notification of refusal to issuean MOT Certificate” (VT30).No repairs are to be commenced until authorisation has beengiven by the Administrator. Any exploratory dismantling charges will only be reimbursedas part of a valid claim. It is the responsibility of the vehicleowner to authorise dismantling and to pay charges if suchdismantling proves that the failure is not covered by the MOTTest Insurance. The Administrator reserves the right to examine any vehicleand subject the parts being repaired or replaced to expertassessment before commencement of any repairs. It shallbe clearly understood and agreed that in the event of anydispute arising as to the extent of the liability, the decisionof the assessor shall be final and binding on both theAdministrator and the Warranty Holder.17

18MOT Test Insurance – How to Claim (continued) If any claim is fraudulent in any respect all benefits underthis MOT Test Insurance will be forfeited and the Warrantypackage cancelled without refund. The reimbursement for any claim under this MOT TestInsurance shall not exceed the manufacturer’s list pricesfor parts and warranty labour rates necessarily incurredin the repair of covered components up to the maximumclaim liability. The Company shall not be liable for any statement orrepresentation, written or verbal (by whomsoever made),which contradicts the Terms and Conditions in this MOT TestInsurance, unless such statement or representation issupported in writing by the Administrator on their behalf. A VAT receipted invoice from the Peter Vardy retailer mustsupport all claims.

Privacy and Data Protection Notice1. Data ProtectionCar Care Plan Limited (the “Data Controller”) are committed toprotecting and respecting your privacy in accordance with thecurrent Data Protection Legislation (“Legislation”). Below is asummary of the main ways in which the Data Controllerprocesses your personal data. For more information please visitwww.view-privacy-policy.co.uk.2. Use of your Personal DataThe Data Controller may use the personal data it holds about youfor the purposes of providing insurance, handling claims and anyother related purposes (this may include underwriting decisionsmade via automated means), for offering renewal, research orstatistical purposes and to provide you with information,products or services that you request from the Data Controller orwhich the Data Controller feels may interest you. The DataController will also use your data to safeguard against fraud andmoney laundering and to meet the Data Controller’s general legalor regulatory obligations.3. Disclosure of your Personal DataThe Data Controller may disclose your personal data to thirdparties involved in providing it with products or services, or toservice providers who perform services on the Data Controller’sbehalf. These include group companies, affinity partners,brokers, agents, third party administrators, reinsurers, otherinsurance intermediaries, insurance reference bureaus, creditagencies, fraud detection agencies, loss adjusters, external lawfirms, external auditors and accountants, regulatory authorities,and as may be required by law.194. International Transfers of DataThe Data Controller may transfer your personal data todestinations outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”).Where the Data Controller transfers your personal data outside ofthe EEA, the Data Controller will ensure that it is treated securelyand in accordance with the Legislation.5.
