Whateverthe reason for enrolling, now is the time tobegin!Blackstone makes it easy for students tocomplete the Paralegal program entirely bymail without computer or Internet access: S tudents receive everything theyneed for their program by mail. S tudents may mail their exams to usfor grading and receive grade reportsback on their progress. Handwritten correspondence and homework assignments are acceptable.

Books average 155 pageswith almost 2,150 pages in all.Blackstone Law GlossaryThis extra volume gives concise definitionsof legal terms and phrases that the paralegal student is likely to encounter, plus thephonetic pronunciation of all words—avaluable asset to keep as a reference.Additional Blackstone Study UnitsIn addition to the ten-volume ModernAmerican Law series, students will receivefour more exclusive Blackstone studyunits to guide them through their studies:Legal Research and Writing—Parts I andII, How to Find a Job as a Paralegal, andEthics for Paralegals.Thorough TestingThirty one exams and six assignments assist us in assessing students’ understandingof the concepts taught.Ample TimeStudents may finish as quickly as 4months, or use the two full years they arepermitted to complete the program. Oneadditional six month extensions is available for a nominal fee.Getting StartedBlackstone makes every effort to accommodate the enrollment ofincarcerated students in our Paralegal Certificate Program. Our program uses soft-covered books and materials that are approved bymost facilities. No computer access, proctors, or instructors are required tocomplete the program.It is important to understand, however, that it remains the responsibility ofthe prospective student to be aware of his or her facility’s own rules, regulations and policies regarding enrollment. Failure by the student to properlyabide by his or her facility’s rules may result in returned shipments to Blackstone. The student will be responsible for the cost to re-ship materials.Please check the following information before submitting an Enrollment Agreement to Blackstone: The student’s facility allows participation in educational Affordable TuitionTuition cost covers the entire programincluding all textbooks, study guides, examand homework evaluation, and the certificate. The tuition fee can be found on theEnrollment Agreement. Blackstone offers aninterest-free, low monthly payment plan tohelp students finance their education.Graduation DocumentsUpon successful completion of the entire program, students receive an officialtranscript and certificate. A copy of thetranscript will be on permanent file andavailable at a nominal fee. correspondence programs. The student has researched whether or not his or herfacility allows for payment plans. The student has researched whether there are limitationson the number of books/materials he or she can receive atone time. The student has asked whether the shipment of educational materials into his or her facility requires additional approval or documentation. The student knows whether the educational materialscan be shipped directly to him or her or if a third partyrecipient at the institution is required. The Student has asked whether Blackstone’s readilyidentifiable padded envelopes addressed to him or herare acceptable or whether the institution requires special packaging such as cardboard only. Frequently Asked Questions from Prospective StudentsWhat’s important whenyou’re choosing a school?How long does it take tocomplete the program?This is a question that many sponsors and prospective students ask.Selection of a program and a schoolare typically based on three factors:personal interest, accreditation, andprograms that qualify graduates tosit for certification. You can be confident in choosing Blackstone becauseour school is nationally and regionally accredited, and our 915 clockhour program meets the educationrequirements given by the NationalAssociation of Legal Assistants (NALA)as well as NALS.the association forlegal professionals. These credentialsensure that our school meets qualityeducation and business standards.Our average student takes between12 and 15 months.* Some completein less time and others take longer.This is one of the major advantages ofstudying independently—you set thepace.I’ve never taken acorrespondence program.How does it work?Correspondence, also called distanceeducation, is a method of learningwhich brings the study materials andthe student together in the student’sown environment or in your case, facility. After you enroll in the program,everything you need to complete theprogram will be sent to you in monthly shipments. You study at your ownpace on the schedule you set. Youinteract with the school and our staffusing the mail system. After readingeach study unit, students then complete the required exams and mail theanswer sheets to our office in pre-addressed envelopes. Grade reports arereturned to you accompanied by pagereferences for incorrect answers.What is required to graduateand get my certificate?You must satisfactorily complete all31 exams and 6 required homeworkassignments as well as have your account paid in full to graduate. Our staffis available through written correspondence to provide whatever supportyou may need to meet this goal. Astudent who is committed to finishingshould have no problem doing so.Do you have admissionsrequirements?We require a High School or GeneralEquivalency Diploma. All applicantsmust complete and return the Enrollment Agreement along with therequired down payment. Applicationswill only be processed when accompanied by the required payment.Students are expected to be able toread at the high school level. If a student has difficulty with the first lessonand exam, our Education Departmentwill assess the reason for the difficulty.If reading comprehension is a problem,we will offer the student our help. Ifthe issue cannot be resolved, Blackstone will allow the student to cancel.Tuition reduction will be consideredfor similarly completed college coursework within two years precedingentrance into our program. Determination of credit will be made by Blackstone upon receipt and evaluation ofan official school transcript and coursedescription.What if I need a break frommy studies due to illness orother issues?Leaves of absence for a maximum ofthree months will be granted for goodcause. Requests should be made inwriting to the Student Services Department. A leave of absence does not extend the required time for completionnor suspend the tuition payment plan.A course extension is available for anominal fee if two years is not sufficient time to complete your studies.How can I make sure myenrollment goes throughsmoothly?First, fill out the Enrollment Agreementcompletely!Second, make sure all the informationis correct, such as the spelling of yourname, your DOC number, and yourshipping address. Gain institutional approval if needed. If you have a sponsorpaying your tuition, make sure all thesponsor information is filled out correctly and remember that they mustsign for credit card payments. If thereare any special shipping/mailroom requirements in your facility, make sureyou tell us.Third, make sure you include yourrequired down payment with your Enrollment Agreement so we can processyour enrollment easily.Finally, review the checklist on theprevious page.*Requires payment in full or accelerated payments under BCI’s payment plan.
