In our 2015, annual report you will see a snapshot of each of LaCausa’s divisions, and how we are opening the doors to a better future for thechildren and families we serve. This year nearly 10,000 men, women and children, received services through one of the programs we offer in our CharterSchool, Crisis Nursery and Respite Center, Early Education and Care Center,Community Enrichment Center, and Social Services division.For us, 2015 really came down to one word: commitment. We are committedto providing high quality programs. Programs which focus on the family, sothey can be their best.We are committed to our staff - as they dedicate their time and talents to earlyliteracy and creating engaging learning environments, child abuse prevention,and being a resource to individuals and families struggling with substanceabuse, behavior and metal healthy issues. Our team helps children and familiesstrengthen the family dynamics and promote community stability.We are committed to you, our partners. We are fiscally responsible with yourdonations, which helps you and us provide service to a great number ofpeople. It has been through your generous support, and our sound financialmanagement, that we had our best financial position in 2015. La CausaCharter SchoolLa Causa Charter School provides a solid, bilingualcore curriculum enhanced by our strong FineArts, Science, & Technology program. We strive todevelop well-rounded students who are ready for thenext challenges of high school, college, and career.Fine Arts, Science, & Technology(FAST)The arts and sciences play an important part in ourstudents’ education.The Fine Arts are developed through visual arts,dance, vocal music, and instrumental music. LaCausa Charter School provides a variety of optionsto increase student enrichment, including choir,orchestra, and several different guitar groups.Science and Technology give students exposure toreal-world work experiences, and include programssuch as: engineering, robotics, and video production.Project Lead the Way“A child can teach an adult three things: tobe happy for no reason, to aloways to busy withsomething, and to know how to demand with allhis might that which he desires.”- Paulo CoelhoProject Lead the Way, now available to K5 through8th grade La Causa Charter School students, providesa hands on approach to Science, Technology,Engineering, and Mathematics. It allows studentsan opportunity to combine their problem solvingand technology skills and lead their own learning.Students showcase their skills sevral times duringthe school year at community and school events.2015 HighlightsLa Causa Charter School was one of three Wisconsinschools elected to receive three 3D printers from NewMatter, and will be available to use in the engineeringand robotics classes.La Causa Charter School was the first NationalCouncil of La Raza affiliate to offer PadresComprometidos, a parent engagement program thatencourages a strong connection between schools andparents. In the 2015-2016 school year, 34 parentsparticipated, and graduation ceremonies were heldin November, March, and June.

La CausaCrisis Nursery &Respite CenterLa Causa’s Crisis Nursery & Respite Center is alicensed, 12-bed shelter that accepts children agebirth to 12 years on a drop-in basis when familiesface homelessness or domestic violence, parentsrequire health care or treatment, or other familyemergencies arise. Each family undergoes a needsassessment and receives referrals for furtherassistance and receive follow-up from CrisisNursery staff.2015 HighlightsThe Crisis Nursery & Respite Center celebrated25 years of helping children and families inneed! The moment was commemorated at ourAnnual Fundrasing Event, the Latin Carnival.In the summer of 2015, the Crisis Nursery &Respite Center installed their new playground,as the previous one was torn down for the newbuilding.Every child is a different kind offlower, and all together, make thisworld a beautiful garden.- Unknown

By tailoring each child’s care andeducation according to his or her development,children form bonds and thrive, giving parentsthe confidence to pursue their careers and buildbetter lives for their families.2015 HighlightsIn June, we had a summer kickoff event, withover 30 families. Staff shared summer safety tipsand shared goodie bags with outdoor acitivitiesto use at home - including bubbles, jump ropes,and more.Through the Early Head Start - Child CarePartnerships, we established a partnership withNext Door, a local education and social servicecenter, to provide qualifying families with extraservices.“Time spent playing withchildren is never wasted.”- Dawn LanteroIn October, we maintained our Five-Star ratingthrough Youngstar, meeting the highest levelsof quality standards.In December, Rockwell employees donated,assembled, and distributed three dozen boxesof food to Early Education and Care Centerfamilies.

Our highly trained, bilingualstaff will assist with many different needs, rangingfrom mental health and co-occurring needs foradults, Treatment Foster Care, emergency crisissupport, and programs to support the mental andemotional health of youth.2015 HighlightsLa Causa Social Services remains one of the topperforming Wraparound agencies based on theWraparound Milwaukee’s Agency PerformanceReport, and continues as the only agency servicere-entry youth.La Causa Social Services ComprehensiveCommunity Services expanded with more carecoordinators, making La Causathe largest care coordinationteam in Milwaukee County.Access Clinic - South startedworking with Milwaukee HealthcarePartnership,anorganizationseeking to strengthen collaborativeefforts between Milwaukee Countyhospitals and community-basedorganizations by having emergencyrooms directly scheduling withcommunity resources, such as theAccess Clinic - South.
