Life at Barry Tech is as Exciting as it is Rewarding!SkillsUSA: This national student organization helps students develop leadership skills throughinvolvement in a wide variety of activities and competitions.National Technical Honor Society (NTHS): Membership in the NTHS,America’s highest award for excellence in career and technical education, is based on academicachievement, community service and teacher recommendations.Honor Roll: Students with an average of 85% or higher, can be eligible for Honor Roll. Work-Based Partnerships with EmployersAt the very heart of Barry Tech are the partnerships with business and industry that help to directLearningour curriculum, ensure our equipment and facilities are up-to-date, and mentor students in workExperiences based learning programs. They also give scholarships and awards, and hire graduates.Barry Tech students have theopportunity to reinforce andapply what they learn in theclassroom in real-world workprograms. All programs followthe guidelines establishedby the New York StateDepartments of Education andLabor, and are supervised bya certified pationalEducational Program(Co-Op):Eligible second-year studentsmay be recommended by theirteachers to join the Co-Op.They will follow an approved,supervised training plan,applying classroom learning,while earning wages and workexperience.Internship Program:Eligible 1st- and 2nd-yearstudents can participate in thisnon-paid, work-based programin order to gain valuable workexperience.Clinic:This is a required non-paid,teacher-supervised, workbased group-learning activity.Students participate in on-thejob training and instruction ina real-world, supervised clinicalsetting. Students will have theopportunity to work with new technology indigital radiography.Potential Dental Assistants WillLearn the Essential Clinical SkillsThat Include: assisting in dental procedures handling dental/medical emergencies CPR instructing patients how to properlybrush and floss preparing restorative andimpression materials infection control andsterilizing techniques taking, processingand mounting X-rays following OccupationalSafety and Health Administration guidelinesand universal precautions maintainingcomputerized dental recordsCareer OpportunitiesStudents who take the complete 2-year,900-hour course will be eligible to fulfill theNew York State Dental Assisting Certificationrequirements.
