INTRODUCTIONThe PI INSULSAFE brings a new level of safetyand reliability to low voltage motor control andpower distribution.Total insulation eliminates the risk of busbararcing faults and protects against accidentalcontact with live parts.The insertion and removal of plug-in motorstarters and feeders can be carried out safelywith the busbars energised. Even changes inconfiguration can be completed safely withoutthe need to shut down.The PI INSULSAFE is fully insulated and arcproof, making it ideal for applications wherecontinuity of service is of critical importance andsafety is paramount.

BUSBAR SYSTEMThe standard horizontal busbar system is ratedat 1400, 2400 or 3000 Amps. Heavy dutybusbars rated at 4000 Amps are available tospecial order. Neutral bars are either half sizeor full size, depending on specification.Dropper busbars are rated at 630 Amps forstandard flat bar and 1000 Amps for heavyduty “L” shaped bar, with higher ratingsavailable to special order. Dropper neutral barsare generally full size.All dropper busbars have a short-circuit strengthof at least 80kA RMS with 176kA peak.BUSBAR INSULATIONVertical phase and neutral busbars areindividually enclosed in a molded supportstructure made from glass reinforced nylon.Horizontal phase and neutral busbars areindividually enclosed in phase coloured,molded nylon covers and phase colouredextruded polycarbonate.The insulation completely surrounds thelive conductors and alone is capable ofwithstanding the dielectric test voltage ofthe assembly. STRUCTURE & FINISHThe PI INSULSAFE is constructed fromstandardised sheetmetal components to form astrong, uniform line-up suitable for low voltagemotor control and power distribution.All structural parts, including doors and coversare manufactured from 2mm steel.Base plinths are made from 3mm steel.Interconnecting structural components arelocated with a dimple on dimple arrangementto add strength and ensure a perfect fit. Doorsand covers are folded with a double return on alledges for extra strength and rigidity.Sheetmetal components are powder coated toa DFT of approximately 80 microns.Colours are as follows:Base plinthBlackStructural frameMetallic CharcoalInternal partsWhiteDoors and coversClient’s choice (depending on availability)MODULAR DESIGNThe PI INSULSAFE is a fully modular system which allows customised switchboards and motorcontrol centres to be manufactured quickly and cost effectively using standard components. ARC FAULT CONTAINMENTA representative selection of functional units has been tested to AS/NZS 3439.1 2002 Annex ZD atvarious prospective fault levels up to 100 kA. Quick andeasy reconfiguration is delivered by the PI INSULSAFE through its completely modular design withinterchangeable components. Even while in service, simple reconfigurations can be done in completesafety.The PI INSULSAFE has been designed to accept virtually any type of low voltage switchgear andcontrol gear, including intelligent motor control systems, so client equipment preferences can easilybe accommodated.

ECONOMYThe relatively small number of parts, ease of assembly and compact size, makes the PI INSULSAFEextremely cost effective in applications where safety, continuity of service and quality are majorconsiderations.COMPACTThe PI INSULSAFE has the smallest footprint ofany MCC available in Australia.A double sided (back to back) motor controlcentre is just 650mm deep. It can accommodateup to 60 x form 4 starters per square metre offloor area, while maintaining generous cableaccess and termination space.Cable access is top, bottom or both.Full height cable zones are 300mm wide. Extrawide cable zones are available as an option.Generous cross wiring spaces are provided attop and bottom, front and rear.
