IN-KIND CONTRIBUTIONSIN KIND SUPPORT: 1.3 MillionMatson’s in-kind support was often the best option to assist the nearlytwelve dozen organizations which had a variety of needs in 2019.We loaned refrigerated containers as temporary cold storage for carnivals,fairs and fundraising events such as golf or fishing tournaments or 5K runs.We donated containers to store athletic equipment, school furnishings,agricultural tools and supplies, and equipment to battle invasive species.Notably, our donated or discounted shipping moved donated medicalequipment and supplies, schoolhouse chairs and desks, beds for theYWCA, shelf stable and perishable food that will be donated by food banksand meal programs, and youth sporting gear and uniforms. A significantdonation of shipping services to Hawaii helped address our homeless crisis.In total, Matson provided in-kind assistance for 95 separate charities.Residents of Kahauiki Village, this mom is able to pursue her degree and continueworking to support herself and son, thanks to affordable childcare available toresidents of this transitional housing site. Matson’s Phil Santos volunteers in service to this charity’s board in partbecause the USO strengthens America’s military service members on Guam bykeeping them connected to family, home and country.Typhoon Yutu in 2018 and Super Typhoon Soudelor in 2015 damaged Saipan’svegetation so critically that the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance launched a specialcampaign to ‘bring back our trees’. More than 500 trees were planted at fourteensites across the island by 200 volunteers who also water them bi-weekly and takemeasurements to document progress.
