MARK KULIKOWSKI COLLECTIONThe Mark Kulikowski Collection, is a diverse collection of historical material from and about the BroomeCounty region. Part of the Local History Collection, this collection consists of twenty-one linear feet of areanewsletters, programs, bulletins, newspapers, booklets, magazines, music and music scores, posters and flyers,photographs, postcards and artifacts. Memorabilia includes items such as trade and business cards, tradetokens from local businesses, and commemorative envelopes and pins. Over 190 books about localbusinesses, industries, municipalities, churches and life in the Broome County area are also part of thecollection. These books can be found on the Binghamton University Libraries’ website with a keywordsearch on Mark Kulikowski.Mark Kulikowski, who grew up in the Triple Cities region, has been donating materials to the Local HistoryCollection since 2007, in an effort to aid in the preservation of this region’s history. This collection enhances,as well as, compliments materials currently housed in the Local History Collection.Kulikowski is an alumnus of the State University of New York at Binghamton, receiving his Bachelor of Arts,Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees in History 1976, 1977 and 1982 respectively. He also earned a Certificatein Russian and East European Studies from State University of New York at Binghamton (1976). He is anAssociate Professor of History at the State University of New York at Oswego, with expertise in modernRussian and U.S. diplomatic history. Prior to his career at State University of New York at Oswego,Professor Kulikowski was a tutor at Empire State College, State University of New York (1981) and a lecturerfor the History Department at SUNY Binghamton (1981).Kulikowski has written many articles pertaining to Russian and East European society and frequentlyappearing in publications such as Polish American Studies, Solanus, and Modern Encyclopedia of Russian and SovietHistory. His well-known book, Bibliography of Slavic Mythology, was published in 1989. He has also reviewedover forty books that can be found in publications such as Polish American Studies, Solanus, Slavic & EastEuropean Information Resources, Russian History, Polish Review, Slavic Review, and East Central Europe. He was a longtime member of the editorial board of Polish American Studies, as well a contributing editor of the AmericanBibliography of Slavic & East European Studies.Professor Kulikowski has participated in several research trips and projects and has presented a number ofpapers and lectures at several Colleges and Universities throughout New York State, North Carolina, Floridaand Georgia. He has served as a long time consultant for the European Division, Library of Congress (since1987), and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center (since 1996). He has alsobeen a consultant for the Smithsonian Institution Press, Simon & Shuster Press, Oswego County (N. Y.)Historical Society Project, and Oswego County (N.Y.) Teachers Center. Since 2005 he has workedextensively with the Photographic Division and Navy Library of the Navy History and Heritage Command inWashington. He has acquired several hundred items for their collections.Kulikowski is affiliated to the American Historical Association, American Association of the Advancement ofSlavic Studies, and the Polish American Historical Association. In 2005 he received the Distinguished ServiceAward from the Polish American Historical Association.
