Visiting ArtCenterWelcome!Set up your visitWhether you are an incoming student orjust learning more about us, this AccessGuide is designed as a resource foryour visit to ArtCenter College of Design.We have included information for thosevisiting our campuses, as well as plentyof helpful tips for new students movingto the Pasadena area. Residency is established by voting ina California election, paying resident tuition,filing for a homeowner’s property tax exemption, or any other privilege or benefit notordinarily extended to nonresidents.How to apply for a California driver licenseAuto insuranceThe Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)requires acceptable birth date and legalpresence documents, a Social Securitynumber and proof that you are in the UnitedStates legally. International students arenot required to have a U.S. Social Securitynumber.Vehicles driven on California roads arerequired by law to carry liability autoinsurance—a minimum of 15,000 for injury/death to one person; 30,000 for injury/death to more than one person; and 5,000for damage to property—that proves financial responsibility for any damage or injurycaused by a traffic accident, regardless offault. You must carry proof of insurance atall times when driving. If you do not haveacceptable proof of liability and have anaccident, you may lose your driver license forup to four years. Bring documents (translatedinto English, if necessary) confirming yourprevious good driving record from your homestate or country.
