On Friday, May 14th, thirtynine students graduated from theHalls of Troy. Six of these studentsgraduated with honors. They are asfollows:Madison Maier: ValedictorianLia LauneyMary Dupre: SalutatorianJulianne EstiletteSpencer DarbonneHalie FontenotSeveral of the graduates are also candidates for the Louisiana’sTaylor Opportunity Program, which is referred to as TOPS. Thisstate program rewards students according to their ACT scores andcompletion of the TOPS course curriculum earning a minimum 2.5GPA in the specified curriculum. The students of the Class of2021 have achieved the following at the current time: 24 have earned the initial composite score to be eligible for theTOPS Program Of those 24 graduates, 8 of the students scored between 23-26which makes them eligible for the TOPS Performance Award,providing each of them with an additional 400 in annual earnings for 4 years. In addition, 3 of our graduates have scored between 27-29,which makes them eligible for the TOPS Honors Programawarding an additional 800 in annual earnings. Students may also pursue a TOPS Tech Award for theirpost-secondary education. An additional 7 graduates havereceived the necessary score to be eligible for the TOPS TechProgram.Congratulations to each of you.SHS Foundation Gives Back toSacred Heart SchoolFor the sixteenth straight year, theSacred Heart School Foundation was ableto give Sacred Heart School a generousdisbursement. On April 15, 2021 Mrs.Dawn Shipp, High School Principal, Mrs.Virginia Morein, Elementary Principal,and Father Tom Voorhies, Pastor, werehonored to accept this year’s gift. The disbursement in the amount of 42,840.97represents the earnings on total assets forthe 2020 calendar year as well as half theproceeds from the SHS Foundation Dance,Buffet and Auction. SHS Foundationdisbursement funds are to subsidizeprojects that enhance, supplement orsurpass the basic curriculum of SacredHeart School. The Sacred Heart SchoolFoundation has given a total of 415,028.45 throughout the years toSacred Heart School.This year’s disbursement will be utilizedfor Chromebooks, Chromebook CloudPrint and Scan for copiers and HMH GoMath Grades 6th – 8th. 5Around the campusFine Arts Survey2021 CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEKThe theme this year was “Faith, Excellence, Service.”Students began the week with Crazy Sock Day (Sock it tosin). They brought items to donate to “A Cause For Paws”and socks for the Nursing Home. On Tuesday, students wore hatsand donated items to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. On Wednesday,students wore red, white or blue shirts being one nation united inChrist and brought items to donate to The New Life PregnancyCenter. Thursday was Shoe Day “Walking in our Faith” and studentsdonated items for the Care & Share Center. Friday was a special daybecause the elementary students dressed astheir favorite saint. High School students woreblack shirts in honor of vocations. The sistersand brothers from Jesus Christ CrucifiedCommunity came as guest speakers to speak tothe students about vocations. Students participated throughout the week in a competitionbetween grades for Catholic Trivia and thePenny Wars for Haiti. Students bought andwore “Faith of a Trojan” bracelets to showtheir Catholic Faith while representing theirCatholic school. Students also participated inmany activities within their religion classes.Passion PresentationsSacred Heart High School and Elementary held separatePassion’s due to Covid-19. The High School held its LivePassion Presentation outside with different stations setuparound the school campus and concluded in the graveyardwhere the SHS Praise Team provided a beautiful performance.The 8th Grade and Kindergarten classes presented theelementary students with a beautiful and meaningful ShadowPassion. With Covid-19 procedures, both events were recordedfor families to view at home.The students in the Fine Arts Survey class learned howto express the impact of music on their senses, intellectsand emotions by creating a working instrument.2021 CotillionThe Class of2021 celebratedCotillion thisyear a littledifferent with aseniorpresentation, thewaltz and adance with theirparents.English II Pro-life LettersAfter learning how to write business letters, the English II(Honors) students are ready to mail their individual pro-lifeletters to President Joseph R. Biden.In their correspondence, the sophomores expressedtheir interest in protecting all unborn babies. The studentsfirst asked that the President to reinstate the Mexico Policy,which he has rescinded. This policy prevented United Statestax dollars from going to foreign organizations that would usethe money to fund abortions.The students also asked that President Biden work to keep theHyde Amendment, a measure for which he voted years ago,but later said that he no longer supports. 7Father Glodd Visits Mrs. Maxine Manuel's ClassFather Glodd visited Mrs. Maxine's Sophomore Englishclass and read a part in the A ntigone drama. Antigone is athreat to the status quo; she invokes divine law as defenseof her actions, but implicit in her position is faith in thediscerning power of her individual conscience. Shesacrifices her life out of devotion to principles higher thanhuman law.Blessing of the RingsCongratulations to the Class of 2022 on receiving their seniorrings. Father Tom Voorhies, Father Andrew Killeen and FatherMitch Guidry along with the students’ parents, presented therings to the members of the Class of 2022.Mrs. Amanda Hebert's Science STEM Class ProjectThe 5th and 6th grade students in Ms. Amanda Hebert's scienceclasses completed a Newspaper STEM Challenge during theirlast week of the 2020-2021 school year. The students wereplaced into small groups and tasked with designing a pair ofshoes using only two materials: newspapers and scotch tape. Atthe end of the week, each small group designated a shoe modelto walk a paper runway and model theirfinished product! This "real-life" project-basedactivity gave students the opportunity to applythe steps of the STEM process while alsohaving fun and practicing valuable life skillssuch as communication, teamwork and criticalthinking. Ms. Amanda could not be prouder ofher students. They did an amazing job withthis STEM challenge! She especially enjoyedwatching them take theproject a step further anddesign extra accessories togo along with their shoessuch as purses, crowns,jewelry, etc. It was theperfect way to end aneventful school year!8th Grade Grandparents’ DayThe week of graduation, 8th gradestudents enjoyed a morning withtheir grandparents for their lastGrandparents' Day celebrationwhile in school.The morning was filled withsnacks, games, gifts, roses and aslideshow.LSU AgCenter Seeds to SuccessThe Kindergarten B Class signed up to receiveone of the many kits in the Seeds to Successprogram. Seeds to Success, a partnership between the LSUAgCenter and the Louisiana Department of Education, seeks toexpand farm to school programming in Louisiana. The programis designed for teachers to receive a windowsill greenhouse kitand seed packets (red leaf lettuce and red chard).On Friday, April 23rd, Kindergarten B and Mrs. Kim Lafleur(Teacher) started theirgreenhouse project.
