From the Pastor’s Desk.HAPPY EASTER! – As we reach thefifteenth day of our fifty day celebrationof Easter 2021, our Tradition presents uswithtwo disciples on the road toEmmaus. As they travel away fromJerusalem and the community ofdisciples, the resurrected Jesus joinsthem, although they do not recognizeHim. Last week the resurrected Lord entered into aspace with locked doors, and this week the resurrectedLord enters into a space (a conversation) with blockedinsight.BREAK THROUGH – In today’s Gospel, once the twodisciples recognize Jesus in their midst, their eyes areopened, their spirits lifted, their hearts renewed and amission revived. In the highly charged atmosphere ofour culture we are often trapped within a repeating loopof non-communication, non-connection, ill-will and badspirit. If I disagree with you and if I dismiss your pointof view as “fake”, do I recognize the Risen Jesus in ourmidst? If you do this to me, are you seeing the Lord inour midst? Two weeks ago when we stood in Mass andrenewed our Baptismal Promises, we re-rejected Satanand all his show and we re-accepted Jesus. We havebeen baptized into the Body of Christ. We are brothersand sisters in Christ. Not to live this way, not to walkand talk in “newness of life” is in practice to treat theGood News of Christ as though it were “fake news”.How can we claim to be promoting the culture ofencounter that Pope Francis is calling us to support if werefuse to listen with respect to the other and to speakwith dignity as the other?EARTH DAY 2021 – This Thursday as many aroundthe world will celebrate Earth Day, we Catholics willhave the opportunity to join with others to name ways inwhich we can better care for our planet and exerciseproper stewardship of God’s Gift of Creation.Page 3OUR COMMON HOME, Part 1 – Last May, to markthe 5th anniversary of Pope Francis’ Encyclical LetterLaudato Sí – On Care for Our Common Home, theVatican called on us to celebrate an entire year reflectingon our stewardship of the Earth. As we approach theconclusion of this twelve month meditation, let’s revisitparagraph 84 of this encyclical:Our insistence that each human being is an image ofGod should not make us overlook the fact that eachcreature has its own purpose. None is superfluous. Theentire material universe speaks of God’s love, hisboundless affection for us. Soil, water, mountains:everything is, as it were, a caress of God. The history ofour friendship with God is always linked to particularplaces which take on an intensely personal meaning;we all remember places, and revisiting those memoriesdoes us much good. Anyone who has grown up in thehills or used to sit by the spring to drink, or playedoutdoors in the neighbourhood square; going back tothese places is a chance to recover something of theirtrue selves.OUR COMMON HOME,Part 2 - In the upcomingweekseachregisteredhousehold in our parish shouldreceive a USPS mailingannouncing a Parish CapitalAppeal to help us completesome deferred maintenanceon our buildings and grounds. Please spend time with thismaterial, pray about it, discussit with your family and then, without any undue pressure, decide whether at this time youcan contribute to this financial appeal. If you are able toparticipate in this effort, please decide how much youwill give and the timing for your support (a one time giftor a pledged amount over 3 years). Thank you forconsidering our Capital Appeal though which we willcontinue to practice stewardship regarding the buildingsand grounds of St. Ann Parish: Our Common Home inthe Faith.St. Ann (026)

Continued From the Pastor’s Desk.In Masses this time of year our first readings from Scripture are from the Acts of theApostles and our Gospels are from St. John. Invariably the question arises whether or notthere is Anti-Semitism in the New Testament. For some thoughts on this question see thePastor’s Portion on our parish homepage.UPCOMING EVENTSWORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS will be observed next Sunday, also known as"Good Shepherd Sunday." The purpose of this day is to publicly fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Praythe Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that youngmen and women hear and respond generously to the Lord's call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes.Page 4St. Ann (026)
