The Hessler Heights’ Culinary team isexcited to get into the kitchen in January to start cleaning.The next step will be inventory and stocking the shelves inanticipation of our new residents.The first goal for the new team is to start cleaning thebuilding to prepare for new residents moving in. Terri andSteve are so excited to get out of the hotel and moved intotheir new apartment on the first floor and to begin greetingour residents.

Meet RoseDeimlerRose was born and raised inPennsylvania and moved toVirginia in 1967. Her favoritefood is seafood, all kinds.On most afternoons, you willsurely find Rose in the libraryplaying word games on heriPad. She says, “Keeps mymind active!” Rose workedat the Giant in Leesburg foralmost 30 years! Although sheisn’t a sports fan, she doesenjoy sitting outdoors soakingup the beautiful Virginiaweather. Rose can’t wait tomove into her new apartment.She is excited to sit out on herprivate patio, as well as meetnew friends up on the terrace.Rose DeimlerMorven ParkMorven Park is a 240-yearold, 1,000-acre historicalestate located in Leesburgand was the home ofWestmoreland Davis,governor of Virginia, and hiswife Marguerite Davis from1903 to 1942. The estateis on the National Registerof Historic Places and is aVirginia Historic Landmark.The grounds include theMorven Park Mansion,two museums, a formalboxwood garden, athleticfields, and miles of hikingand riding trails.Entry to Boxwood GardensMorven Park Mansion hasa unique eclectic styleMorven Park Estatefrom the modest fieldstonehouse to the impressive Greek Revival buildings. Inside thisbeautiful estate, you will find a collection of antiques ranging fromtraditional to ornate representing Marguerite’s extensive travelsabroad. The collection includes 16th Century Belgian tapestries,Spanish cases, a Hudson River Valley painting, and many moreantiques throughout the house. All of the antiques are on display atthe estate as well as detailed information about Marguerite Davis.The two museums that are located on the estate are the WinmillCarriage Museum and the Museum of Hounds and Hunting of NorthAmerica. The Winmill Carriage Museum has 40 coaches, calèche,carriages, sleds, and carts that range from royal to utilitarian, alldonated by Viola Winmaill. The two unique finds in this museumare the coach designed for Barnum and Bailey Circus’ General TomThumb and a calèche that was featured in Grace Kelly’s movie “TheSwan.” The other museum on the estate is Hounds & Hunting ofNorth America. Loudoun County has a long history of “The Hunt”and Westmorland Davis was a founding member of the LoudounHunt and served as Master of Foxhounds. You will find equestrianart and artifacts on display plus equestrian memorabilia.

Morven Park is also an agricultural showpiece; Marguerite Davisdeveloped formal, boxwood gardens near the house. Morven Parkgardens are on 1,000 acres that include lawns, fields, wooded ridges,and a formal boxwood garden. The fields of Morven Park are from theearly 19th-century landscape. The large fields and lawns are great forpicnics. Marguerite Davis, who was the last owner of the estate, addeda formal Colonial Revival boxwood garden in 1930. This magnificentgarden still stands today and is a great spot to take senior pictures orfamily photos for Christmas cards.Winmill Carriage MuseumTo go see this Historical Estate, tours are available from 12 to 5 p.m.,Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are required to access the mansion and Windmill Carriage Museum. You canvisit Morven Park website for more information and events that they are holding on the estate.Meet Chef Craig AlexisChef Craig Alexis was born and raised on thetwin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobagowhich is located in the Caribbean.He started his culinary journey at the ageof 16 at the Trinidad & Tobago Hospitality& Tourism Institute and from there, hetransferred to the Barbados CommunityCollege Hospitality Institute, whereCraig with son, Caleb and wife,he attained his associate’s degree inJonah at Great Country Farmsculinary arts and was the recipient of aPresidential Scholarship to further his studies at the Johnson & Wales University(Providence campus).Grasping this opportunity with both hands, he earned a Bachelor’s degree inCulinary Arts, Summa Cum Laude, and started building on his practical culinaryexperience. He started working in his homeland before moving to Barbados,where he was employed at the Hilton and the Fairmont Royal Pavilion. It was herewhere he grew and flourished under Executive Chef, Alan Larch, who encouragedhim to harness the potential he possessed.Craig, Hessler Heights’ KitchenCraig’s grandparents, Stanleyand Lucille in TrinidadFollowing his experience with luxury resorts, Craig became a Personal Chef for the United States Ambassador ofTrinidad & Tobago. As a personal Chef, he exhibited an undying passion for quality and excellence as well as having akeen eye for attention to detail. He remained the Personal Chef for the Ambassador and her family for 8 years beforetransitioning to the senior living sector of the hospitality industry. Because of his experience of being a personal chef,he has the unique ability to comfortably connect with families, exhibiting genuine concern for the elderly and deliveringon the culinary needs and expectations of the community’s population. Craig is a passionate Chef who will cut nocorners in assuring that Hessler Heights’ residents receive the very best of the very best. He stays true to his roots byincorporating his knowledge of Caribbean flavors with ingredients that are not indigenous to the West Indies.This type of fusion coupled with his creativity gives birth to cuisine and experiences that are truly unique.Bon Appétit!
