Méndez- Gurabo Campus is anonprofit institution of higher education located 15miles southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, within easyreach of the entire east-central part of the island. Its140-acre suburban campus and its fifteen buildingsprovide an ideal atmosphere for the learningexperience. The university currently operates five (5)Additional Locations located in Barceloneta, Cayey,Yabucoa, Isabela, and Ponce, and five (5) US BranchCampuses (three (3) in Florida, one (1) in Marylandand one (1) in Texas.It is a professionally oriented institution with avariety of offerings, from technical certificates todoctoral degrees. The institution serves a diversifiedstudent body mostly from the surroundingcommunities, with a variety of economic andeducational backgrounds.Founded in 1972, Universidad Ana G. MéndezGurabo Campus has continued to grow in the newmillennium. The student population of more than15,000 is composed of young adults andprofessionals. The academic staff consists of morethan two hundred thirty-one (231) full-time facultymembers and three hundred forty-seven (347) fulltime equivalent professors. The fulltime facultymembers hold doctorates and master’s degrees intheir fields of expertise. Nearly sixty (60) percent ofUniversidad Ana G Méndez- Gurabo Campus’s fulltime faculty hold a doctoral degree and thirty-five(35) percent of part-time faculty holds a doctoraldegree. Its main function is to establish theinstitutional policy of the University in accordancewith the bylaws of the Ana G. Méndez UniversitySystem. The Administrative Council includes theChancellor, who chairs it, the vice chancellor, thevice chancellor of student affairs, the manager ofphysical facilities and operations, the deans of theacademic divisions, five (5) faculty representatives,and two (2) student representatives.Academic and Student Affairs CommissionThe Academic and Student Affairs Commission(A.S.A.C.) consists of fifteen (15) members as follows:eight (8) faculty facilitators and seven (7)administrators. The faculty facilitators includerepresentation from the following areas: one (1)from liberal arts and criminal justice, one (1) frombusiness administration, economics, and hospitality,one (1) from natural and health sciences, one (1)from Education, one (1) from languages, one (1) fromBilingual Education and ESOL, one (1) Campus atLarge (South Florida), and one (1) Campus at Large(Tampa Bay Campus). The composition for theadministrators is as follows: three (3) AcademicDirectors, three (3) Directors of Learning ResourceCenter, and the A.S.A.C Chair.
