2022 D’AMORE-MCKIM CELEBRATION SPEAKERSJeffery A. Born joined Northeastern University in 1988 and has been the D’AmoreMcKim Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs since March 2018. Bornserved as the Senior Associate Dean (2002-2005) and as inaugural Dean for theFaculty of Business and Economics at the University of the South Pacific(2006-2008) in Fiji.Born earned a BS in Business Administration in 1977 and a MA in Economics in1978 from Bowling Green State University. In 1996 Professor Born was named oneof the 25 most accomplished graduates of the CBA at BGSU. He earned his Ph.D. inBusiness Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in1986.Born has published 4 monographs and 32 articles in blind refereed academic journals.He is frequently quoted in the financial press, has been an expert witness in publicutility rate hearings and an advisor to the governments of Fiji and Tuvalu. Born andhis wife Mary Ann have three grown children, six grandchildren and were fosterparents for five children. He served on the Board of The ARC in Chapel Hill, N.C.,an organization that supports children and adults with intellectual and/ordevelopmental disabilities in the achievement of their personal goals and dreams inour community through partnership and advocacy. He continues to do volunteerwork on behalf of autistic children.Emery A. Trahan is Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of BusinessInterim Dean and Professor of Finance. For the last 33 years, he has devoted hiscareer to Northeastern's business programs and its students, as well as to theuniversity’s mission and vision. Over those years, he has been part of the college’snotable upward trajectory and its transition from the College of BusinessAdministration to the D’Amore-McKim School of Business.Since 1988, he has served in various tenured and tenured-track faculty rolesincluding the Donald F. Harding Professorship in Finance and Chair of the FinanceGroup. Most recently, Trahan spent the last seven years serving as D’AmoreMcKim’s Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Research, in addition to serving asInterim Dean during the summer of 2017.Trahan has taught many graduate, undergraduate, and executive-level courses overhis tenure with Northeastern and received several recognitions for teachingexcellence. He is also published in numerous academic and practitioner journals andauthored and co-authored books and books chapters, most recently a chapter inPrivate Equity: Opportunities and Risk titled,“Valuing Private Equity.”

He has been elected and served on several Northeastern college and universitycommittees and task forces, including ones that shaped faculty research, policy,tenure and promotion, and program curriculum. Trahan has also served hisprofession in various ways throughout his career, including as a member of the CFASociety of Boston’s Board of Directors, the Vice President of Local Arrangements forthe Eastern Finance Association, and as a Research Fellow and an Advisory Boardmember of the Center for Institutional Investment Management (CIIM) at theUniversity at Albany. He was also an Associate Editor for the Journal of BusinessResearch.Trahan is both a Certified Public Accountant from the State of New York and aChartered Financial Analyst. He received his MA and PhD in Financial Economicsfrom The State University of New York at Albany and his BS in Accounting from TheState University of New York at Plattsburgh.Khailah Nichole-Robin Griffin has completed her baccalaureate studies atNortheastern University with a degree in Business Administration (MISconcentration), minoring in business analytics, while on the pre-medical track.During her time at Northeastern, she has been involved in numerous on/offcampus organiza- tions: a mentor for Partners for Youth with Disabilities, thecaptain of the Varsity Women’s Track and Field Team, a member of the Women inBusiness club, co- vice president of the Minority Association for Pre-Health Students,former president of Hall Council, senior year experience board member, and aD’Amore-McKim Building Belonging Fellow. Outside of Northeastern she is also thefounder of her own organization UnorthoDOCx which provides a global onlinenetwork for nontraditional premedical students where she and her team of fourorganize networking events, fundraise money to delegate scholarships, overseethe UnorthoDOCx mentoring program, and provides free resources for students.She has completed two co-ops during her five years: first at Wayfair Incor- poratedwhere she worked for the Business Intelligence Team as a Project Manager, andsecondly at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center working as Patient Care Technicianand Unit Coordinator. She has also received several awards including: The Huntington100, Wendy Breen Kline 2022 Award Recipient, the Northeastern Athletics 2025 Award.Northeastern University Women Who Empower 2021 Award.Alan McKim is the Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of CleanHarbors. He founded the company in 1980 and has served as Chairman of the Boardof Directors and Chief Executive Officer since its founding. He was named Presidentof the Company in September 2016. McKim serves as a director of most of thecompany's subsidiaries. He holds an MBA from

Northeastern University's D'Amore-McKim School of Business. McKim now serveson Northeastern University's Board of Trustees, and he holds an honorarydoctorate from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He is recognized as anindustry leader, with over 35 years of experience in the environmental servicesbusiness.David Madigan is the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs atNortheastern University. Prior to joining Northeastern, he was Professor ofStatistics, Executive Vice President of Arts and Sciences, and Dean of the Faculty atColumbia University in the City of New York. He received a bachelor’s degree inMathematics and a Ph.D. in Statistics, both from Trinity College Dublin.He has previously worked for AT&T Inc., Soliloquy Inc., the University ofWashington, Rutgers University, and SkillSoft, Inc. He has over 200 publications insuch areas as Bayesian statistics, text mining, Monte Carlo methods,pharmacovigilance and probabilistic graphical models.He is an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute ofMathematical Statistics, and the American Association for the Advancement ofScience. He has served terms as Editor-in-Chief of Statistical Science and ofStatistical Analysis and Data Mining – the ASA Data Science Journal.

2022 BEST TEACHER FINALISTSMark Bernfeld serves as a professor of practice in the finance department atNortheastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business. He also is a visitingscholar at Dartmouth College. Bernfeld leads Northeastern’s FinTech Initiative andserves as faculty advisor to three student groups: NU Impact Investing Initiative,Disrupt, and Huntington Angels.Bernfeld is an experienced entrepreneur with a strong commitment toenvironmentally and socially responsible businesses. In 1993, he founded TamarackTechnologies, an air quality and energy conservation company, for which he servesas board chairman. He also co-founded the startup MentorWorks EducationCapital in 2016, offering financing and career development opportunities such asprofessional mentoring and access to employers to students from low-incomebackgrounds.In addition to overseeing several smaller businesses, Bernfeld is a member in andactive angel investor with Launchpad Venture Group and Clean Energy VentureGroup. He also serves on a number of startup and nonprofit boards. He enjoysmentoring startups and students.Bernfeld received an MBA from The Wharton School at the University ofPennsylvania and a BS in Mathematics from Dartmouth College.This is Professor Bernfeld’s 4th year in a row as a finalist, winning in 2018.William (Bill) Goldman is a senior lecturer in the accounting department atD’Amore-McKim, teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs. He hasreceived awards for innovative teaching practices from Northeastern and from theAmerican Accounting Association.Goldman also co-founded the HUB of Analytics Education, a not-for-profit thatprovides open educational resources related to data analytics to users around theworld.Prior to joining academia, he earned his MSA/MBA from Northeastern and workedas an auditor at a Big 4 accounting firm.Professor Goldman has been a finalist for three years in a row and a two-time winner.All guests must adhere to all COVID-19 protocols of the venue, city, and state toattend this event.

Daniele Mathras is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Marketing Departmentat D’Amore-McKim. She teaches client-based, experiential learning courses inMarketing Research, Brand Management, Advertising & Brand Promotion, andBridging Conflict, Creating Diversity through Entrepreneurship and Marketing.Mathras’s students work with startups from IDEA, EforAll Roxbury, HealthScience Entrepreneurs, and other local accelerators and immediately apply courseconcepts to real-world marketing problems. For these courses, Mathras has twicebeen awarded the DMSB Teaching Innovation Award and has been recentlyhonored as the Northeastern University Excellence in Teaching Award Recipient in2022. Mathras’s research centers around consumer well-being, minimalism andsimplicity, and hospital corporate social responsibility and she is a faculty associate ofNortheastern’ s Center for Health Policy & Healthcare Research.Beyond the classroom, Mathras serves as the Brand Management ConcentrationCoordinator and co-directs the Marketing Research Experience behavioral lab. Shealso serves on the Learning Management Environment Steering Committee andas a faculty advisor to Northeastern University Marketing Association (NUMA),NUMA Consulting, Pi Sigma Epsilon, and Net Impact. Beyond Northeastern,Daniele serves as a mentor to two startups from the EforAll Roxbury businessincubator and guest lectures on marketing research for startups for local campus andcommunity organizations. Prior to joining Northeastern, Mathras earned degreesfrom Babson College (BSBA), UMass Amherst (MBA), and Arizona StateUniversity (PhD) and held various marketing, licensing, and brand managementroles in the entertainment, apparel, and culinary industries.This is Professor Mathras first year as a finalist.
