ORIENTATIONLEADING INSTITUTIONAL UNITS AND PROGRAMS supportsfaculty and staff at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and Loyola LawSchool. The program provides opportunities for participants to acquire theseminal knowledge and skills necessary for leading effective institutionalunits and programs. Through participation in interactive workshopsconducted by external higher education scholars, internal administrators, andalumni of the program, participants reflect on and evaluate their role as leaderswithin the context of a Catholic/ Jesuit/ Marymount University.2

GOALS Enhance the development of leaders who individually and collectivelywork in service of the mission of LMU. Promote the concept of leadership development as a joint responsibilityof administrators and LMU. Prepare change agents to overcome resistance, deal with stress, andimplement appropriate strategies to achieve LMU’s mission. Instill effective organizational citizenship behavior and collegiality criteriain institutional leadership processes. Empower emerging leaders with the foundational knowledge andcompetencies necessary for coordinating and collaborating with othersto effectively respond to changing internal and external circumstances. Build communities of leaders willing and able to learn and overcometogether the challenges of contemporary academic realities. Strengthen community across the faculty and staff by way of buildinginstitution-wide, productive and collaborative relationships.3

LEARNING OUTCOMESAfter participating in LEADING INSTITUTIONAL UNITS AND PROGRAMS,participants will be better equipped to: Demonstrate an enhanced understanding of LMU’s Catholic/Jesuit/Marymount mission. Demonstrate leadership best practices and proven strategies that create andmaintain inclusive university environments. Build exceptional teams throughout the University and empower them tomove LMU forward in fulfillment of its mission and goals. Engage human resources throughout LMU so that alternative thinking andapproaches can help solve the complex issues.4

WHO WILL BENEFIT Associate Deans and Assistant Deans Department Chairs and Associate Department Chairs Directors and Assistant Directors Coordinators and Assistant Coordinators Teacher-Scholars and staff members interested in preparing forleadership roles in colleges and universities5

PARTICIPANTS AREEXPECTED TO Attend and participate in a minimum of eight workshops to qualifyfor a Leadership Development Certificate. Complete the reading assignments, and actively participate ingroup discussions. Respect the confidentiality of information shared during the sessions.6
