OverviewThe Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) servesas the test center for a wide variety of nationaland local tests and testing programs. Testing services offered by the CTCExam ProctoringCOMPASS Placement TestsResidual ACTCLEPComputer-based exams, such as the GRE,MCAT, PRAXIS I, and TOEFLThe Miller Analogies Test (MAT)The MELABDelivery of exams for a variety of commercialtesting vendors such as CastleWorldwide,PAN, and ACT.Pencil and paper national standardizedexams, such as the ACT, SAT, LSAT,PRAXIS II, and GRE Subject TestsFees and method of payment vary by test. TheCTC cannot accept debit or credit cards, but forsome programs that provide online registration,this is the preferred method. The CTC can alsobill student accounts or Vandal Cards for someprograms. No programs accept cash.o Students will need to make arrangementswith the host school (which may requirepaperwork from the CTC) to have testingmaterials delivered to the CTC. The CTCcan accommodate both paper and penciland on-line exams.o The fee for this service is 10 per hour orpart of an hour. This is a per testingappointment fee for all non-UI courses orprograms and non-UI students taking UIdistance online or video courses. UI Exams for UI students:o UI students taking a UI distance, online, orvideo course will be charged a total of 5per credit hour per semester, with a slidingfee schedule available.o UI students who wish to take exams in aquiet environment with minimal distractionsmay make arrangements with theirprofessors to test at the CTC under thesame fee schedule. Note: This is onlyavailable to students who have theadvance written consent of their professors.Further information and registration packetscan be obtained at the CTC.A valid photo ID must be presented at the timeof testing. Students are responsible for verifyingthe ID requirements for their particular exams(many require government issued ID, with bothphotograph and signature).For more information about testing at the CTC,including links to individual testing programs visitour website: www.ctc.uidaho.edu/testingExam ProctoringThe CTC offers space and supervisorypersonnel for proctoring exams for students ormembers of the community who need a securetesting situation. The fees vary as describedbelow. Students should contact the CTC inadvance to arrange proctoring. Distance Learning Exams:COMPASS Placement Tests COMPASS measures students’ skills inwriting, mathematics, and reading (available,but not used by UI). It is used by theUniversity of Idaho for placement in English,mathematics, and chemistry. COMPASS is a computer adaptive test,using the latest assessment technology todecrease testing time without decreasing theaccuracy of results. Results are availableimmediately. The COMPASS is administered on a walkin basis between 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.,Monday through Friday. The cost is 10 pertest for UI students and 15 per test for nonUI students.Residual ACTThe Residual ACT is an on-campus testingprogram for UI enrolled or admitted studentswho are unable to test on a national test date.How it works: The Residual ACT is administered byappointment at the CTC.Unofficial testresults are available within 24 hours. Thetesting fee is 75. The Residual ACT is the same test as theNational ACT without Writing; however,results are reported only to the University ofIdaho. No Student Reports or High SchoolReports are generated, and no AdditionalScore Reports will be generated to reportscores to any other institution.College Level Examination Program (CLEP) CLEP is the most widely used credit-byexamination program in the United Statestoday. By receiving a satisfactory score,students can earn from 3 to 12 college creditsfor each CLEP test taken, depending on theexam subject.Since the exams areadministered on a computer, unofficial resultsare available immediately. The CLEP is administered by appointmentonly and students are responsible for knowingthe CLEP policy of their school (what examsare accepted, how much credit it will earn, themaximum number of credits allowed throughadvanced placement). The fee for the CLEP is 77 (reimbursable formilitary personnel). In addition, there is anadministrative fee of 15 per test for UIstudents and military personnel, or 25 pertest for non-UI students.

The Michigan English Language AssessmentBattery (MELAB) The MELAB is a measure of Englishproficiency offered as an alternative to theTOEFL. The MELAB is offered once per month andstudents register directly with the CTC. The exam costs 120. Students pay the CTC 60 at the time of registration. They payMELAB an additional 60, which can be paidon the day of the exam.Pencil and paper basednational standardized exams The ACT, SAT, LSAT, PRAXIS II, GRESubject, and other tests are given on specificnational test dates on Saturdays in pencil andpaper format. To register for these tests youmust contact the programs directly. Testing is conducted by appointment, with some exams on a fixed date model (testingvendors sets dates and times available) andothers on a continuous delivery model (CTCsets dates and times available).GRE General Test and PRAXIS I: schedulingis available online through ETS or at the CTCand is continuous (typically Monday-Thursdaymornings).MCAT and TOEFL: scheduling is onlinethrough AAMC and ETS; testing is offered onspecific dates.MAT - Miller Analogies Test (an alternative tothe GRE accepted by some schools):scheduling is available through the CTC andis continuous.Other: The CTC also contracts with a numberof testing vendors (ACT, CastleWorldwide,PAN, etc.) to provide a variety of certificationand employment examinations. Examples ofthese examinations are ACE PersonalTrainer, TSA Screener, Association of SocialWork Boards and the Foreign Service OfficerTest. UW Oshkosh Testing ServicesPolk Library Lower Level, Rooms 2, 3, 4 and 6 (920)424-1432The department has two primary roles which include administration of tests (computerbased andpaper/pencil testing) and scoring of classroom exams. The department provides spacefor year round classroom and make-up testing, self-paced and correspondence testing.Additional space and accommodations are available for non-standardized testing ofstudents who meet criteria set by the American Disabilities Act.Tests administered by our department include:ACT/SAT Testing – Pre-college admission testing required by mostcolleges/universities.Regional Placement Testing – College testing (English, math, foreign language)Required of new freshmen and some transfer students depending on prior college workcompleted.CLEP (College Level Examination Program) and DANTES (Defense Activity for NonTraditional Educational Support). Examinations are administered as part of thecollege’s credit by examination program. There are 34 CLEP exams currently publishedby the College Board. Any high school or college student who feels he/she hasrequisite knowledge in these areas may take these tests. Students successfullycompleting the exams may request credit at the college level.
