To be considered as a potential supplier for Walmartor Sam’s Club, the following expectations and criteriamust be met. The requirements must be provided to theWalmart Home Office Food Safety & Health departmentfor approval prior to being given an approved supplieragreement. Failure to comply with the requirements listedbelow will make your company ineligible to supply toWalmart or Sam’s Club. Please read the supplier definitionsbelow to determine how your company will be categorized. Private Brand Supplier - A supplier that manufactures a product that is sold as a Walmart or Sam’s Clubbranded item, that carries a “Distributed by Walmart”or “Distributed by Sam’s Club” legend on the label, oris sold at the Sam’s Deli. Non-Private Brand Supplier - A supplier thatmanufactures a product of their own brand at theirown facility. This includes suppliers that deliver products locally or regionally. These products will NOT besold as a Walmart or Sam’s Club branded item. Small & Developing Supplier - A non-privatebrand supplier that does not have the capacity tosupply product to more than 65 total stores, does notmake more than 2.5 million total annual sales, anddoes not deliver product beyond a 250 mile radius. Distributors - A supplier that sells products made byother companies to retail facilities. They do not manufacture products but may warehouse or repack them. Suppliers that use Co-packers - A supplierwhose product is manufactured by another facility.They do not manufacture the products at their facilitybut may warehouse or repack them.Please note that Local, State, FDA and USDA inspectionswill NOT be accepted in the place of a food safetyassessment. It is strongly suggested that all companiestake the time to review the requirements and preparefor the food safety assessments. Food Safety AssessmentWalmart Stores, Inc. has aligned with GFSI (Global Food SafetyInitiative) and requires all private brand suppliers, regardlessof company size or the inherent food safety risks associatedwith their products, to obtain full GFSI certification. For moreinformation about the certification process, you may reviewThe Supplier’s Guide to Becoming GFSI Certified*. Please visitwww.mygfsi.com for a full list of recognized schemes.FDA Bioterrorism RegistrationSuppliers will need to ensure that all facilities that provideproduct to Walmart and/or Sam’s Club have registered with theFDA and have a current FDA bioterrorism registration number.Each facility that is approved and issued a vendor number isrequired to have an individual FDA registration. This doesnot apply to USDA-inspected facilities. To ensure Compliance,suppliers will provide this number to Walmart upon our request.Licensing & RegistrationCertain states have licensing and registration requirementsabove and beyond Federal registration requirements. It isthe supplier’s responsibility to be familiar with the laws andregulations in every state in which their product will be sold.Suppliers will be asked to submit proof of registration to theWalmart Food Safety & Health department at supaudit@walmart.com upon request. Food Safety AssessmentPlease note that Non-Private Brand Suppliers may alsobe referred to as National Brand Suppliers in WalmartStores, Inc. communications. Suppliers of High-Risk ProductsWalmart Stores, Inc. has aligned with GFSI (GlobalFood Safety Initiative) and requires all suppliers ofhigh-risk products to obtain full GFSI certificationannually. Food Safety AssessmentWalmart Stores, Inc. has aligned with GFSI (Global FoodSafety Initiative) and requires all Small & Developingsuppliers to pass a Global Markets Assessment annually.At Walmart and Sam’s Club, we understand that smallcompanies may not have the same resources as largercompanies. For that reason we have negotiated reducedrates for these assessments. Please review the Q&ADocument for Processors Required to Obtain Basic orIntermediate Level Assessments* for a list of approvedaudit companies that can perform this assessments atyour facility. After the audit is completed, please submityour passing audit to supaudit@wal-mart.com. Suppliers of High-Risk ProductsSmall & developing suppliers of high-risk productsare required to pass the GFSI Intermediate LevelAssessment annually. Food Safety AssessmentWalmart Stores, Inc. requires all facilities that manufactureproduct sold in our stores or clubs to obtain a food safetyassessment annually. As a distributor, you must disclose allmanufacturing facilities that you source products from tosupaudit@wal-mart.com. You must also submit a passing foodsafety assessment for each facility you source product from.The facilities must meet the requirements outlined above fortheir specific facility type. Walmart will not accept any productfrom a facility that does not meet the specified requirements.In addition, suppliers that warehouse product at theirown facility or use a third party warehouse will also need toobtain a Distribution Center and Transportation Audit for eachwarehouse.
