CHAPTER ONECan man decree a thing and have it come to pass? Most decidedly he can! Man has always decreedthat which has appeared in his world and is todaydecreeing that which is appearing in his world andshall continue to do so as long as man is consciousof being man. Not one thing has ever appeared inman’s world but what man decreed that it should. This you may deny, but try as you will you cannotdisprove it, for this decreeing is based upon achangeless principle. You do not command thingsto appear by your words or loud affirmations. Suchvain repetition is more often than notconfirmation of the opposite. Decreeing is everdone in consciousness. That is; every man isconscious of being that which he has decreedhimself to be. The dumbman without using wordsis conscious of being dumb. Therefore he isdecreeing himself to be dumb. When the Bible isread in this light you will find it to be the greatestscientific book ever written. Instead of lookingupon the Bible as the historical record of anancient civilization or the biography of the unusuallife of Jesus, see it as a great psychological dramataking place in the consciousness of man. Claim itas your own and you will suddenly transform yourworld from the barren deserts of Egypt to thepromised land of Canaan.TheJoyWithin.org

Everyone will agree with the statement that allthings were made by God, and without him thereis nothing made that is made, but what man doesnot agree upon is the identity of God. All thechurches and priesthoods of the world disagree asto the identity and true nature of God. The Bibleproves beyond the shadow of a doubt that Mosesand the prophets were in one hundred percentaccord as to the identity and nature of God. AndJesus’ life and teachings are in agreement with thefindings of the prophets of old. Moses discoveredGod to be man’s awareness of being, when hedeclared these little understood words, “I AM hathsent me unto you.” David sang in his psalms, “Bestill and know that I AM God.” Isaiah declared, “IAM the Lord and there is none else. There is noGod beside me. I girded thee, though thou hast notknown me. I form the light, and create darkness; Imake peace, and create evil. I the Lord do all thesethings.” The awareness of being as God is statedhundreds of times in the New Testament. To namebut a few: “I AM the shepherd, I AM the door; IAM the resurrection and the life; I AM the way; IAM the Alpha and Omega; I AM the beginning andthe end”; and again, “Whom do you say that IAM?” It is not stated, “I, Jesus, am the door. I,Jesus am the way,” nor is it said, “Whom do yousay that I, Jesus, am?” It is clearly stated, “I AMthe way.” The awareness of being is the doorthrough which the manifestations of life pass intothe world of form.TheJoyWithin.org

Consciousness is the resurrecting power –resurrecting that which man is conscious of being.Man is ever out-picturing that which he isconscious of being. This is the truth that makesman free, for man is always self-imprisoned orself-freed.If you, the reader, will give up all of your formerbeliefs in a God apart from yourself, and claim Godas your awareness of being – as Jesus and theprophets did – you will transform your world withthe realization that, “I and my father are one.” Thisstatement, “I and my father are one, but my fatheris greater than I,” seems very confusing – but ifinterpreted in the light of what we have just saidconcerning the identity of God, you will find it veryrevealing. Consciousness, being God, is as ‘father.’The thing that you are conscious of being is the‘son’ bearing witness of his ‘father.’ It is like theconceiver and its conceptions. The conceiver isever greater than his conceptions yet ever remainsone with his conception. For instance; before youare conscious of being man, you are first consciousof being. Then you become conscious of beingman. Yet you remain as conceiver, greater thanyour conception – man.TheJoyWithin.org

Jesus discovered this glorious truth and declaredhimself to be one with God – not a God that manhad fashioned. For he never recognized such aGod. He said, “If any man should ever come, saying, ‘Look here or look there,’ believe them not,for the kingdom of God is within you.” Heaven iswithin you. Therefore, when it is recorded that “Hewent unto his father,” it is telling you that he rosein consciousness to the point where he was justconscious of being, thus transcending thelimitations of his present conception of himself, called ‘Jesus.’TheJoyWithin.org

CHAPTER TWOIn the awareness of being all things are possible,he said, “You shall decree a thing and it shall cometo pass.” This is his decreeing – rising inconsciousness to the naturalness of being the thingdesired. As he expressed it, “And I, if I be lifted up,I shall draw all men unto me.” If I be lifted up inconsciousness to the naturalness of the thingdesired I will draw the manifestation of that desireunto me. For he states, “No man comes unto mesave the father within me draws him, and I and myfather are one.” Therefore, consciousness is thefather that is drawing the manifestations of lifeunto you.You are, at this very moment, drawing into yourworld that which you are now conscious of being. Now you can see what is meant by, “You must beborn again.” If you are dissatisfied with yourpresent expression in life the only way to change it,is to take your attention away form that whichseems so real to you and rise in consciousness tothat which you desire to be. You cannot serve twomasters, therefore to take your attention from onestate of consciousness and place it upon another isto die to one and live to the other.TheJoyWithin.org

The question, “Whom do you say that I AM?” isnot addressed to a man called ‘Peter’ by one called‘Jesus.’ This is the eternal question addressed toone’s self by one’s true being. In other words,“Whom do you say that you are?” For yourconviction of yourself – your opinion of yourselfwill determine your expression in life.He states, “You believe in God – believe also inme.” In other words, it is the me within you that isthis God. Praying then, is seen to be recognizingyourself to be that which you now desire, ratherthan its accepting form of petitioning a God thatdoes not exist for that which you now desire. So can’t you see why the millions of prayers areunanswered? Men pray to a God that does notexist. For instance: To be conscious of being poorand to pray to a God for riches is to be rewardedwith that which you are conscious of being – whichis poverty. Prayers to be successful must beclaiming rather than begging – so if you wouldpray for riches turn from your picture of povertyby denying the very evidence of your senses andassume the nature of being wealthy.TheJoyWithin.org

We are told, “When you pray go within in secretand shut the door. And that which your father seesin secret, with that will he reward you openly.”Wehave identified the ‘father’ to be the awareness ofbeing. We have also identified the ‘door’ to be theawareness of being. So ‘shutting the door’ isshutting out that which ‘I’ am now aware of beingand claiming myself to be that which ‘I’ desire tobe. The very moment my claim is established tothe point of conviction, that moment I begin todraw unto myself the evidence of my claim. Do notquestion the how of these things appearing, for noman knows that way. That is, no manifestationknows how the things desired will appear.Consciousness is the way or door through whichthings appear. He said, “I AM the way” – not ‘I,’John Smith, am the way, but “I AM,” theawareness of being, is the way through which thething shall come. The signs always follow. Theynever precede. Things have no reality other than inconsciousness. Therefore, get the consciousnessfirst and the thing is compelled to appear. You are told, “Seek ye first the kingdom of Heavenand all things shall be added unto you.” Get firstthe consciousness of the things that you areseeking and leave the things alone. This is what ismeant by “Ye shall decree a thing and it shall cometo pass.”TheJoyWithin.org

Apply this principle and you will know what it is to‘prove me and see.” The story of Mary is the storyof every man. Mary was not a woman – givingbirth in some miraculous way to one called ‘Jesus.’Mary is the awareness of being that ever remainsvirgin, no matter how many desires it gives birthto. Right now look upon yourself as this virginMary – being impregnated by yourself through themedium of desire – becoming one with your desireto the point of embodying or giving birth to yourdesire. For instance: It is said of Mary (whom you nowknow to be yourself) that she know not a man. Yetshe conceived. That is, you, John Smith, have noreason to believe that that which you now desire ispossible, but having discovered your awareness ofbeing to be God, you make this awareness yourhusband and conceive a man child (manifestation)of the Lord, “For thy maker is thine husband; theLord of hosts is his name; the Lord God of thewhole earth shall he be called.” Your ideal orambition is this conception – the first command toher, which is now to yourself, is “Go, tell no man.”That is, do not discuss your ambitions or desireswith another for the other will only echo yourpresent fears. Secrecy is the first law to beobserved in realizing your desire.TheJoyWithin.org

The second, as we are told in the story of Mary, isto “Magnify the Lord.” We have identified the Lordas your awareness of being. Therefore, to ‘magnifythe Lord’ is to revalue or expand one’s presentconception of one’s self to the point where thisrevaluation becomes natural. When thisnaturalness is attained you give birth by becomingthat which you are one with in consciousness. The story of creation is given us in digest form inthe first chapter of John.“In the beginning was the word.” Now, this verysecond, is the ‘beginning’ spoken of. It is thebeginning of an urge – a desire. ‘The word’ is thedesire swimming around in your consciousness –seeking embodiment. The urge of itself has noreality, For, “I AM” or the awareness of being is theonly reality. Things live only as long as I AM awareof being them; so to realize one’s desire, thesecond line of this first verse of John must beapplied. That is, “And the word was with God.”The word, or desire, must be fixed or united withconsciousness to give it reality. The awarenessbecomes aware of being the thing desired, therebynailing itself upon the form or conception – andgiving life unto its conception – or resurrectingthat which was heretofore a dead or unfulfilleddesire. “Two shall agree as touching anything andit shall be established on earth.”TheJoyWithin.org

This agreement is never made between twopersons. It is between the awareness and the thingdesired. You are now conscious of being, so youare actually saying to yourself, without usingwords, “I AM.” Now, if it is a state of health thatyou are desirous of attaining, before you have anyevidence of health in your world, you begin toFEEL yourself to be healthy. And the very secondthe feeling “I AM healthy” is attained the two haveagreed. That is, I AM and health have agreed to beone and this agreement ever results in the birth ofa child which is the thing agreed upon – in thiscase, health. And because I made the agreement Iexpress the thing agreed. So you can see whyMoses stated, “I AM hath sent me.” For whatbeing, other than I AM could send you intoexpression? None – for “I AM the way – Beside methere is no other.” If you take the wings of themorning and fly into the uttermost parts of theworld or if you make your bed in Hell, you will stillbe aware of being. You are ever sent intoexpression by your awareness and your expressionis ever that which you are aware of being.TheJoyWithin.org

CHAPTER THREEAgain, Moses stated, “I AM that I AM.” Now hereis something to always bear in mind. You cannotput new wine in old bottles or new patches uponold garments. That is; you cannot take with youinto the new consciousness any part of the oldman. All of your present beliefs, fears andlimitations are weights that bind you to yourpresent level of consciousness. If you wouldtranscend this level you must leave behind all thatis now your present self, or conception of yourself. To do this you take your attention away from allthat is now your problem or limitation and dwellupon just being. That is; you say silently butfeeling to yourself, “I AM. Do not condition this‘awareness’ as yet. Just declare yourself to be, andcontinue to do so, until you are lost in the feelingof just being – faceless and formless. When thisexpansion of consciousness is attained, then, within this formless deep of yourself give form tothe new conception by FEELING yourself to beTHAT which you desire to be.TheJoyWithin.org

You will find within this deep of yourself all thingsto be divinely possible. Everything in the worldwhich you can conceive of being, is to you, withinthis present formless awareness, a most naturalattainment. The invitation given us in theScriptures is – “to be absent from the body and bepresent with the Lord.” The ‘body’ being yourformer conception of yourself and ‘the Lord’ –your awareness of being. This is what is meantwhen Jesus said to Nicodemus, “Ye must be bornagain for except ye be born again ye cannot enterthe kingdom of Heaven.” That is; except you leavebehind you your present conception of yourselfand assume the nature of the new birth, you willcontinue to out-picture your present limitations. The only way to change your expressions of life isto change your consciousness. For consciousnessis the reality that eternally solidifies itself in thethings round about you. Man’s world in its everydetail is his consciousness out-pictured. You canno more change your environment, or world, bydestroying things than you can your reflection bydestroying the mirror. Your environment, and allwithin it, reflects that which you are inconsciousness. As long as you continue to be thatin consciousness so long will you continue toout-picture it in your world.TheJoyWithin.org

Knowing this, begin to revalue yourself. Man hasplaced too little value upon himself. In the Book ofNumbers you will read, “In that day there weregiants in the land; and we were in our own sight asgrasshoppers. And we were in their sight asgrasshoppers.” This does not mean a time in thedim past when man had the stature of giants.Today is the day, the eternal now when conditionsroundabout you have attained the appearance ofgiants (such as unemployed, the armies of yourenemy, your problems and all things that seem tothreaten you) those are the giant that make youfeel yourself to be a grasshopper. But, you are told, you were first, in your own sight a grasshopperand because of this you were to the giants – agrasshopper. In other words, you can only be toothers what you are first to yourself. Therefore, torevalue yourself and begin to feel yourself to be thegiant, a center of power, is to dwarf these formergiants and make of them grasshoppers. “All theinhabitants of the earth are as nothing, and hedoeth according to his will in the armies of Heavenand among all the inhabitants of the earth; andnone can stay his hand, nor say unto him, “Whatdoest thou’?” This being spoken of is not theorthodox God sitting in space but the one and onlyGod – the everlasting father, your awareness ofbeing. So awake to the power that you are, not asman, but as your true self, a faceless, formlessawareness, and free yourself from your selfimposed prison. “I am the good shepherd andknow my sheep and am known of mine. My sheepTheJoyWithin.org

hear my voice and I know them and they willfollow me.” Awareness is the good shepherd. WhatI am aware of being, is the ‘sheep’ that follow me.So good a ‘shepherd’ is your awareness that it hasnever lost one of the ‘sheep’ that you are aware ofbeing.I am a voice calling in the wilderness of humanconfusion for such as I am aware of being, andnever shall there come a time when that which Iam convinced that I am shall fail to find me. “IAM” is an open door for all that I am to enter. Yourawareness of being is lord and shepherd of yourlife. So, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall notwant” is seen in its true light now to be yourconsciousness. You could never be in want of proofor lack the evidence of that which you are aware ofbeing. This being true, why not become aware ofbeing great; God-loving; wealthy; healthy; and allattributes that you admire? It is just as easy to possess the consciousness ofthese qualities as it is to possess their opposites foryou have not your present consciousness becauseof your world. On the contrary, your world is whatit is because of your present consciousness.Simple, is it not? Too simple in fact for the wisdomof man that tries to complicate everything.TheJoyWithin.org

Paul said of this principle, “It is to the Greeks” (orwisdom of this world) “foolishness.” “And to theJews” (or those who look for signs) “a stumblingblock”; with the result, that man continues to walkin darkness rather than awake to the being that heis. Man has so long worshipped the images of hisown making that at first he finds this revelationblasphemous, since it spells death to all hisprevious beliefs in a God apart from himself. Thisrevelation will bring the knowledge that “I and myfather are one but my father is greater than I.” Youare one with your present conception of yourself. But you are greater than that which you are atpresent aware of being. Before man can attempt to transform his world hemust first lay the foundation – “I AM the Lord.”That is, man’s awareness, his consciousness ofbeing is God. Until this is firmly established so thatno suggestion or argument put forward by otherscan shake it, he will find himself returning to theslavery of his former beliefs. “If ye believe not thatI AM he, ye shall die in your sins.” That is, youshall continue to be confused and thwarted untilyou find the cause of your confusion. When youhave lifted up the son of man then shall you knowthat I AM he, that is, that I, John Smith, donothing of myself, but my father, or that state ofconsciousness which I am now one with does theworks.TheJoyWithin.org

When this is realized every urge and desire thatsprings within you shall find expression in yourworld. “Behold I stand at the door and knock. Ifany man hear my voice and open the door I willcome in to him and sup with him and he with me.”The “I” knocking at the door is the urge. The dooris your consciousness. To open the door is tobecome one with that that which is knocking byFEELING oneself to be the thing desired. To feelone’s desire as impossible is to shut the door ordeny this urge expression. To rise in consciousnessto the naturalness of the thing felt is to swing widethe door and invite this one into embodiment. That is why it is constantly recorded that Jesus leftthe world of manifestation and ascended unto hisfather. Jesus, as you and I, found all thingsimpossible to Jesus, as man.TheJoyWithin.org

But having discovered his father to be the state ofconsciousness of the thing desired, he but leftbehind him the “Jesus consciousness” and rose inconsciousness to that state desired and stood uponit until he became one with it. As he made himselfone with that, he became that in expression. Thisis Jesus simple message to man: Men are butgarments that the impersonal being, I AM, thepresence that men call God – dwells in. Eachgarment has certain limitations. In order totranscend these limitations and give expression tothat which, as man – John Smith – you findyourself incapable of doing, you take yourattention away from your present limitations, orJohn Smith conception of yourself, and mergeyourself in the feeling of being that which youdesire. Just how this desire or newly attainedconsciousness will embody itself, no man knows. For I, or the newly attained consciousness, hasways that ye know not of; its ways are past findingout. Do not speculate as to the HOW of thisconsciousness embodying itself, for no man is wiseenough to know the how. Speculation is proof thatyou have not attained to the naturalness of beingthe thing desired and so are filled with doubts.TheJoyWithin.org

CHAPTER FOURYou are told, “He who lacks wisdom let him ask ofGod, that gives to all liberally, and upbraideth not;and it shall be given unto him. But let him ask notdoubting for he who doubts is as a wave of the seathat is tossed and battered by the winds. And letnot such a one think that he shall receive anythingfrom the Lord.” You can see why this statement ismade, for only upon the rock of faith can anythingbe established. If you have not the consciousnessof the thing you have not the cause or foundationupon which thing is erected. A proof of thisestablished consciousness is given you in thewords, “Thank you, father.” When you come intothe joy of thanksgiving so that you actually feelgrateful for having received that which is not yetapparent to the senses, you have definitely becomeone in consciousness with the thing for which yougave thanks. God (your awareness) is not mocked.TheJoyWithin.org

You are ever receiving that which you are aware ofbeing and no man gives thanks for somethingwhich he has not received. “Thank you father” isnot, as it is used by many today a sort of magicalformula. You need never utter aloud the words,“Thank you, father.” In applying this principle asyou rise in consciousness to the point where youare really grateful and happy for having receivedthe thing desired, you automatically rejoice andgive thanks inwardly. You have already acceptedthe gift which was but a desire before you rose inconsciousness, and your faith is now the substancethat shall clothe your desire. This rising inconsciousness is the spiritual marriage where twoshall agree upon being one and their likeness orimage is established on earth. “For whatsoever yeask in my name the same give I unto you.”‘Whatsoever’ is quite a large measure.TheJoyWithin.org

It is the unconditional. It does not state if societydeems it right or wrong that you should ask it, itrests with you. Do you really want it? Do youdesire it? That is all that is necessary. Life will giveit to you is you ask ‘in his name.’ His name is not aname that you pronounce with the lips. You canask forever in the name of God or Jehovah orChrist Jesus and you will ask in vain. ‘Name’means nature; so, when you ask in the nature of athing, results ever follow. To ask in the name is torise in consciousness and become one in naturewith the thing desired, rise in consciousness to thenature of the thing, and you will become that thingin expression. Therefore, “what things soever yedesire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive themand ye shall receive them.” Praying, as we haveshown you before, is recognition – the injunctionto believe that ye receive is first person, presenttense. This means that you must be in the natureof the things asked for before you can receivethem. To get into the nature easily, generalamnesty is necessary.TheJoyWithin.org

We are told, “Forgive if ye have aught against any, that your father also, which is in Heaven, mayforgive you. But if ye forgive not, neither will yourfather forgive you.” This may seem to be somepersonal God who is pleased or displeased withyour actions but this is not the case.Consciousness, being God, if you hold inconsciousness anything against man, you arebinding that condition in your world. But torelease man from all condemnation is to freeyourself so that you may rise to any levelnecessary; there is therefore, no condemnation tothose in Christ Jesus. Therefore, a very good practice before you enterinto your meditation is first to free every man inthe world from blame. For LAW is never violatedand you can rest confidently in the knowledge thatevery man’s conception of himself is going to behis reward. So you do not have to bother yourselfabout seeing whether or not man gets what youconsider he should get. For life makes no mistakesand always gives man that which man first giveshimself. This brings us to that much abusedstatement of the Bible on tithing. Teachers of allkinds have enslaved man with this affair of tithing, for not themselves understanding the nature oftithing and being themselves fearful of lack, theyhave led their followers to believe that a tenth partof their income should be given to the Lord.TheJoyWithin.org

Meaning, as they make very clear, that, when onegives a tenth part of his income to their particularorganization he is giving his “tenth part” to theLord – (or is tithing). But remember, “I AM” theLord.” Your awareness of being is the God that yougive to and you ever give in this manner. Thereforewhen you claim yourself to be anything, you havegiven that claim or quality to God. And yourawareness of being, which is no respecter ofpersons, will return to you pressed down, shakentogether, and running over with that quality orattribute which you claim for yourself. Awarenessof being is nothing that you could ever name. Toclaim God to be rich; to be great; to be love; to beall wise; is to define that which cannot be defined. For God is nothing that could ever be named.Tithing is necessary and you do tithe with God. Butfrom now on give to the only God and see to it thatyou give him the quality that you desire as man toexpress by claiming yourself to be the great, thewealthy, the loving, the all wise.TheJoyWithin.org

Do not speculate as to how you shall express thesequalities or claims, for life has a way that you, asman, know not of. Its ways are past finding out. But, I assure you, the day you claim these qualitiesto the point of conviction, your claims will behonored. There is nothing covered that shall not beuncovered. That which is spoken in secret shall beproclaimed from the housetops. That is, yoursecret convictions of yourself – these secret claimsthat no man knows of, when really believed, will beshouted from the housetops in your world. Foryour convictions of yourself are the words of theGod within you, which words are spirit and cannotreturn unto you void but must accomplish whereunto they are sent. You are at this moment callingout of the infinite that which you are nowconscious of being. And not one word orconviction will fail to find you.TheJoyWithin.org

CHAPTER FIVE“I AM” the vine and ye are the branches.”Consciousness is the ‘vine,’ and those qualitieswhich you are now conscious of being are as‘branches’ that you feed and keep alive. Just as abranch has no life except it be rooted in the vine,so likewise things have no life except you beconscious of them. Just as a branch withers anddies if the sap of the vine ceases to flow towards it,so do things in your world pass away if you takeyour attention from them, because your attentionis as the sap of life that keeps alive and sustainsthe things of your world. To dissolve a problemthat now seems so real to you all that you do isremove your attention fromit. In spite of itsseeming reality, turn from it in consciousness.TheJoyWithin.org

Become indifferent and begin to feel yourself to bethat which would be the solution of the problem. For instance; if you were imprisoned no manwould have to tell you that you should desirefreedom. Freedom, or rather the desire of freedomwould be automatic. So why look behind the fourwalls of your prison bars? Take your attentionfrom being imprisoned and begin to feel yourselfto be free. FEEL it to the point where it is natural –the very second you do so, those prison bars willdissolve. Apply this same principle to any problem.I have seen people who were in debt up to theirears apply this principle and in the twinkling of aneye debts that were mountainous were removed.TheJoyWithin.org

I have seen those whom doctors had given up asincurable take their attention away from theirproblem of disease and begin to feel themselves tobe well in spite of the evidence of their sense to thecontrary. In no time at all this so called “incurabledisease” vanished and left no scar. Your answer to,“Whom do you say that I AM”? [sic] everdetermines your expression. As long as you areconscious of being imprisoned or diseased, orpoor, so long will you continue to out-picture orexpress these conditions. When man realized thathe is now that which he is seeking and begins toclaim that he is, he will have the proof of his claim. This cue is given you in words, “Whom seek ye?”And they answered, “Jesus.” And the voice said, “Iam he.” ‘Jesus’ here means salvation or savior. Youare seeking to be salvaged from that which is notyour problem.TheJoyWithin.org

“I am” is he that will save you. If you are hungry, your savior is food. If you are poor, your savior isriches. If you are imprisoned, your savior isfreedom. If you are diseased, it will not be a mancalled Jesus who will save you, but health willbecome your savior. Therefore, claim “I am he,” inother words, claim yourself to be the thing desired.Claim it in
