Pastor’s Column June 2, 2019SPIRITUAL STATE OF THE PARISHMy Friends in Christ:I love the line from the second letter of St. Peter: “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone whoasks you for your reason to hope.” This quote assumes many important things about our discipleship withJesus Christ and our Catholic faith. It assumes first that each and everyone of us have hope. It is a prerequisitefor any disciple of the Risen Lord, that we are people of hope. I also love this passage because it assumes that ourhope is so visible and apparent that it compels the other person to ask what is the reason for our hope, andcompels us to witness the reason for our hope and to do it with conviction and joy.In our faith community here at St. Jude, I see so many reasons for my hope, most of which are the manyways I see God working in our lives, the life and vibrancy of our parish community and your care and love foreach other.Last week, six representatives from our parish and I attended a six-hour workshop to review the results ofthe parish survey (Disciple Maker Index Survey) that we participated in earlier this year. The survey wascoordinated and administered by the Catholic Leadership Institute, an organization dedicated to assistingparishes to grow spiritually in discipleship.I am very proud to share that our parish had the largest response to the parish survey of the manyparishes participating. We had 552 respondents. Thank you for this. The workshop provided a wealth of information about various aspects of our parish life (i.e. howwelcoming we are, the quality of homilies, the perception of our school, etc.)Of note, were the areas of strength for our parish. These included: Welcoming CommunityRecommend our parish to othersParish leadershipRecommend our parish to othersOur school (99% of our parishioners see St. Jude School as a great strength!!!)Our PREP programFinancial transparencyLiturgical music at Mass and SacramentsInforma on about parish life is easily available on our parish website, bulle ns, e-newsle er,instant contact Opportuni es to serve Strong Faith of the parish communityIn a future Pastor Letter, I will share the areas of focus for our Parish. The leadership team combinedwith the combined Finance and Pastoral Councils will begin to unpack the information that will help us to addressthese areas of focus as well as continue to strengthen our areas of strength. Ultimately, our goal is to provideresources to help you in your personal discipleship with Jesus Christ and to help our parish to deepen ourcommitment to Jesus and His Way of Life.My friends, we are excited and hopeful that each of our parishioners will deepen their conviction forhis/her hope in the Risen Lord and their willingness to share one’s story of their discipleship with Jesus Christ.God bless!Monsignor Francis W. Beach, Pastor
