Meru Mountain and the planetary system known as Bhūmaṇḍala. Bhū-maṇḍala is like a lotus flower, and its sevenislands are compared to the whorl of the lotus. The placeknown as Jambūdvīpa is in the middle of that whorl. There aredifferent varshas (valleys) of Jambūdvīpa and the incarnationof the Supreme Lord are worshiped in each valley. In the landknown as Hari-varsha, the exalted devotee Prahlāda Mahārājaworships Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva and recited these prayers knownas “Narasimha Stuti” which you will be studying in this book.Following in the footsteps of Prahlāda Mahārāja, theinhabitants of Hari-varsha always worship Lord Nṛsiṁhadevato receive from Him the benediction of being engaged in Hisloving service.

May all living entities become calmby practicing bhakti-yoga, for by acceptingdevotional service they will think of eachother’s welfare. Therefore let us all engage inthe service of the supreme transcendence,Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and always remain absorbedin thought of Him.

māgāra-dārātmaja-vitta-bandhuṣusaṅgo yadi syād bhagavat-priyeṣu naḥyaḥ prāṇa-vṛttyā parituṣṭa ātmavānsiddhyaty adūrān na tathendriya-priyaḥTranslationMy dear Lord, we pray that we may never feelattraction for the prison of family life, consisting ofhome, wife, children, friends, bank balance, relatives and so on. If we do have someattachment, let it be for devotees, whose only dearfriend is Kṛṣṇa. A person who is actually selfrealized and who has controlled his mind isperfectly satisfied with the bare necessities of life.He does not try to gratify his senses. Such a personquickly advances in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, whereasothers, who are too attached to material things, find advancement very difficult.

We all have so many attractions.- Ice creams & chocolates- Smart phones- Video games- Burger in the restaurant- Latest moviesAll of us are attracted to these things right ?But a Vaishnava (one who is dear to the Lord) prays1. To have devotee friends (who always talk about Krishna)and2. To be satisfies with Krishna Prasad & not to havecravings for junk food

yat-saṅga-labdhaṁ nija-vīrya-vaibhavaṁtīrthaṁ muhuḥ saṁspṛśatāṁ hi mānasamharaty ajo ’ntaḥ śrutibhir gato ’ṅgajaṁko vai na seveta mukunda-vikramamTranslationBy associating with persons for whom the SupremePersonality of Godhead, Mukunda, is the all in all, one canhear of His powerful activities and soon come to understandthem. The activities of Mukunda are so potent that simply byhearing of them one immediately associates with the Lord. For a person who constantly and very eagerly hearsnarrations of the Lord’s powerful activities, the AbsoluteTruth, the Personality of Godhead in the form of soundvibrations, enters within his heart and cleanses it of allcontamination. On the other hand, although bathing in theGanges diminishes bodily contaminations and infections, thisprocess and the process of visiting holy places can cleanse theheart only after a long time. Therefore who is the sane manwho will not associate with devotees to quickly perfect hislife?

By Bathing in the holyGanga river, we can cleanourselves, get purified &become free fromdiseases. But what about the bad thoughts which come in our mind? How can we clean our mind ?Prahlad Maharaj is giving us a solution in this verse :We must associate with the Lord’s devotees and hear aboutthe Lord’s glories from them (which is called ‘shravanam’)and chant the glories of the Lord with the devotees : “HareKrishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare RamaHare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”In this way we can clean our mind and become dear to LordKrishna !!

ACTIVITY TIME :If you are given these options which one would you choose ?After your answer, ask your teacher whether what you choseis correct :1) What you want your mind to think about ?Good thoughtsBad thoughts2) How are you going to purify your mind ?By taking bathBy associating with devotees3) When you talk with your friends, what will you talk about?Latest MoviesPastimes of God4) Who is a devotee (with whom you can associate) ?He who talks about himselfHe who talks about God5) What will you chant to clean your mind?

yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanāsarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥharāv abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇāmanorathenāsati dhāvato bahiḥTranslationAll the demigods and their exalted qualities, such asreligion, knowledge and renunciation, become manifestin the body of one who has developed unalloyeddevotion for the Supreme Personality of Godhead,Vāsudeva. On the other hand, a person devoid ofdevotional service and engaged in material activitieshas no good qualities. Even if he is adept at the practiceof mystic yoga or the honest endeavor of maintaininghis family and relatives, he must be driven by his ownmental speculations and must engage in the service ofthe Lord’s external energy. How can there be any goodqualities in such a man?

A person who hears and chants the glories of Lord Krishna, develops 26 qualities :(1) He is very kind toeveryone.(2) He does not makeanyone his enemy.(3) He is truthful.(4) He is equal toeveryone. (5) No one can find anyfault in him.(6) He is magnanimous.(7) He is mild.(8) He is always clean.(9) He is without possessions.(10) He works for everyone’sbenefit.(11) He is very peaceful.(12) He is always surrenderedto Kṛṣṇa.(13) He has no materialdesires.(14) He is very meek.(15) He is steady.

(16) He controls his senses.(17) He does not eat more thanrequired.(18) He is not influenced by theLord’s illusory energy.(19) He offers respect to everyone.(20) He does not desire anyrespect for himself.(21) He is very grave.(22) He is merciful.(23) He is friendly.(24) He is poetic.(25) He is expert.(26) He is silent.

harir hi sākṣād bhagavān śarīriṇāmātmā jhaṣāṇām iva toyam īpsitamhitvā mahāṁs taṁ yadi sajjate gṛhetadā mahattvaṁ vayasā dampatīnāmTranslationJust as aquatics always desire to remain in the vastmass of water, all conditioned living entities naturallydesire to remain in the vast existence of the SupremeLord. Therefore if someone very great by materialcalculations fails to take shelter of the Supreme Soulbut instead becomes attached to material householdlife, his greatness is like that of a young, low-classcouple. One who is too attached to material life loses allgood spiritual qualities.

Fishes are lifeless whenthey are out of water.Whereas when they are in waterthey can do anything & everythingSimilarly,When we forget our SupremeFather – Lord Krishna and onlyEngage in our selfish word allThe time, we are compared toThe fishes out of water,Because we are devoid ofThe real spiritual strengthBut if we remain connectedto the Supreme Personalitywho is always there in usas paramatma, we get thespiritual power to doanything and everything

Everyone should therefore seek the shelter of the SupremeSoul, the source of all living entities, without wasting time.

tasmād yādhimūlamhitvā gṛhaṁ saṁsṛti-cakravālaṁnṛsiṁha-pādaṁ bhajatākutobhayam itiTranslationTherefore, O demons, give up the so-called happiness offamily life and simply take shelter of the lotus feet ofLord Nṛsiṁhadeva, which are the actual shelter offearlessness. Entanglement in family life is the rootcause of material attachment, indefatigable desires, moroseness, anger, despair, fear and the desire for falseprestige, all of which result in the repetition of birthand death.

Just take shelter ofLord Narasimhadeva’slotus feet &become fearless !!
