Listen up. Glimpse the glory of God.PreludePrelude in F MajorAnnouncements*Confession and ForgivenessAll may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism.Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God,who creates us, redeems us, and calls us by name.C: Amen.S:S:Let us confess our sinin the presence of God and of one another.Silence is kept for reflection.S: Most merciful God,C: we confess that we have sinned against youand your beloved children. We have turned our faces away from your glorywhen it did not appear as we expected. We have rejected your word

when it made us confront ourselves. We have failed to show hospitalityto those you called us to welcome.Accept our repentance for the things we have doneand the things we have left undone. For the sake of Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.Forgive us and lead us, that we may bathein the glory of your Son born among us,and reflect your love for all creation.Amen.S:Rejoice in this good news:In Christ Jesus, your sins are forgiven. You are descendants of the Most High, adopted into the household of Christ, and inheritors of eternal life.Live as freed and forgiven children of God.C: Amen.*Apostolic GreetingS: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.C: And also with you.*Prayer of the DayS: Blessed Lord God,you have caused the holy scriptures to be writtenfor the nourishment of your people.Grant that we may hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that, comforted by your promises,we may embrace and forever hold fastto the hope of eternal life, through your Son,Jesus Christ our Lord.C: Amen.First ReadingNehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-101S: All the people [of Israel] gathered together into the square

before the Water Gate. They told the scribe Ezra to bring thebook of the law of Moses, which the Lord had given to Israel.2Accordingly, the priest Ezra brought the law before theassembly, both men and women and all who could hear withunderstanding. This was on the first day of the seventh month.3He read from it facing the square before the Water Gate fromearly morning until midday, in the presence of the men and thewomen and those who could understand; and the ears of all thepeople were attentive to the book of the law. 5And Ezra openedthe book in the sight of all the people, for he was standingabove all the people; and when he opened it, all the peoplestood up. 6Then Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and allthe people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. Then they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with theirfaces to the ground. 8So they read from the book, from the lawof God, with interpretation. They gave the sense, so that thepeople understood the reading.9And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest andscribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all thepeople, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mournor weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words ofthe law. 10Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat anddrink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whomnothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord; and do notbe grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”The Word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to God.Second Reading1 Corinthians 12:12-31a12S:For just as the body is one and has many members, and all themembers of the body, though many, are one body, so it is withChrist. 13For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into onebody—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all madeto drink of one Spirit.14Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.

15If the foot would say, “Because I am not a hand, I do notbelong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part ofthe body. 16And if the ear would say, “Because I am not an eye,I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less apart of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, where wouldthe hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where wouldthe sense of smell be? 18But as it is, God arranged the membersin the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19If all were a singlemember, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are manymembers, yet one body. 21The eye cannot say to the hand, “Ihave no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have noneed of you.” 22On the contrary, the members of the body thatseem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and those members ofthe body that we think less honorable we clothe with greaterhonor, and our less respectable members are treated withgreater respect; 24whereas our more respectable members donot need this. But God has so arranged the body, giving thegreater honor to the inferior member, 25that there may be nodissension within the body, but the members may have thesame care for one another. 26If one member suffers, all suffertogether with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice togetherwith it.27Now you are the body of Christ and individually members ofit. 28And God has appointed in the church first apostles, secondprophets, third teachers; then deeds of power, then gifts ofhealing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kindsof tongues. 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are allteachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all possess gifts ofhealing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31aBut strivefor the greater gifts. The Word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to God.*Holy GospelLuke 4:14-21thS: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 4 chapter.C: Glory to you, O Lord!

P:14Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned toGalilee, and a report about him spread through all thesurrounding country. 15He began to teach in their synagoguesand was praised by everyone.16When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, hewent to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah wasgiven to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place whereit was written:18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,because he has anointed meto bring good news to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim release to the captivesand recovery of sight to the blind,to let the oppressed go free,19to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”20And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, andsat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.21Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has beenfulfilled in your hearing.”The Gospel of the Lord.C: Praise to you, O Christ.SermonChristine Moll*Reflection Hymn O For a Thousand Tongues To SingELW #886Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim,to spread through all the earth abroad the honors of your name. The name of Jesus charms our fears and bids our sorrows cease, sings music in the sinner's ears, brings life and health and peace. He speaks, and list'ning to his voice, new life the dead receive;the mournful, broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe.
