NYC is in the first phase of reopening today, June 8th. Businesses that may start or expandoperations include retail, construction, manufacturing and wholesale trade. More informationavailable here.GetFoodNYCCITY FUNDING FOR PANTRIES: The Administration and Council’s initiative to distribute 25million to pantries across the City is underway. The trusted umbrella organizations, including CityHarvest and Food Bank NYC, have begun reaching out to local pantries to supply in-kind assistanceand cash grants to meet their needs, which can include food, staffing, and operational expenses.BUSINESS EMERGENCY GRANT PROGRAM: Among the peaceful demonstrations, protests, andvigils the City has seen over this past week, some neighborhoods unfortunately saw individuals usingprotest as a cover for violence and crime. Yesterday, the Mayor announced an emergency grantprogram for small businesses whose storefronts were impacted by looting. Thanks to 500,000 ininitial funds from SOMOS Community Care, the City will begin providing grants to small businessesin the Bronx of up to 10,000. The City is continuing to raise funds to provide relief, as wellas providing legal and technical support to affected businesses citywide. Businesses can get moreinformation by calling 1-888-SBS-4NYC (1-88-727-4692).From the Mayor’s OfficeExpanding Cure Violence:The City is expanding Cure Violence to four additional precincts:

43rd Precinct in Soundview, Bronx103rd Precinct in Jamaica, Queens71st Precinct in Crown Heights, Brooklyn69th Precinct in Canarsie, BrooklynWith the addition of these sites, Cure Violence will now cover the 20 precincts with the highest ratesof gun violence. As part of this expansion, we are increasing our Crisis Management System budgetby 10 million. This funding will help in staffing and create new sites and support communityorganizers and credible messengers who break cycles of violence in their neighborhoods.More Testing for Hard-Hit Communities:The Mayor announced two Mobile Testing Trucks began operating yesterday at NYCHA’s MonroeHouses in Soundview in the Bronx. They will be heading to Queens Borough Hall tomorrow. TwoHousing Works sites have opened in zip code 11208. The City is offering testing kits to all hospitalsand hospital systems, and will immediately send 3,000 Made in NYC test kits to Staten Islandhospitals.Additional H H testing sites: 4002 Fort Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn – opened 6/106315 14th Avenue, Brooklyn – opening 6/11And, community provider sites have opened up at the following locations: BronxCare: 3 in zip code 10457Morris Heights Health Center: 5 mobile van in zip code 10453Boriken Neighborhood Health Center: 1 in zip code 10035Damian Family Care Centers: 3 in zip code 10454VIP Community Services: 1 in zip code 10460Busways and Bus Lanes:The City will implement 20 miles of new busways and bus lanes that will serve nearly 750,000 dailyriders. This will enable faster travel, and more frequent buses will help to increase social distance.Five new busways have been planned, using 14th Street as the model, and the 14th Street Buswayitself will be made permanent. The City will establish 3.5 miles of new busways with a capacity for 596,000 daily rides,at the following locations: June: Main Street, Queens July: Jamaica Avenue, Queens and 5th Avenue, Manhattan August: Jay Street, Brooklyn October: 181st Street, ManhattanThe City will establish 16.5 miles of new bus lanes, adding a total of 148,000 daily rides,at the following locations: June: East 14th Street, Manhattan and 149th Street, Bronx July: Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island August: Merrick Boulevard, QueensCoping with Trauma:

Working with 270 front-line community and faith-based organizations at the neighborhood level,NYC will reach 10,000 New Yorkers in our hardest-hit neighborhoods from July to December tooffer mental health resources. The City will train staff at these organizations to help theircommunities cope through virtual trainings on mental health disaster response and coping forcommunity members.Restaurant Revitalization Program:This City’s Restaurant Revitalization Program will support unemployed and underemployedrestaurant workers using 3 million from NYC Opportunity, Mayor’s Fund to Advance NYC and OneFair Wage, and it will focus on the 27 communities hardest hit by COVID-19. Grants of up to 30,000 each will subsidize wages of 20 per hour for at least 6 weeks, supporting 1,000 workers in100 restaurants initially selected, with preference given to those who offer free or reduced cost mealsto New Yorkers affected by COVID-19. Additionally, all restaurants must commit to a 15 minimumwage on top of tips within 5 years of returning to regular business.Youth Programming:Learn, Create, Prepare: NYC YouthThe NYC Young Men’s Initiative in partnership with the Department of Probation’s NeighborhoodOpportunity Network (NeON) has initiated three programs for the summer:1. NeON Summer: This program will 2,700 young people a paid 6-8 week remote-learningsummer immersion with a focus on employment readiness, career exploration andmentorship, social and civic leadership, financial literacy and more.2. Each One Teach One: A program to connect youth with mentors and media experts, whereparticipants get paid to design media messages and campaigns to promote social distancingand amplify public health information.3. Community Crisis Response Initiative: A program to support at least 500 youth at 22community based organizations focused on crisis response. During this suspension, any food scraps and yard wasteset out for composting will be collected as trash.Schools on Pause NYC and NYS public schools will remain closed for the rest of this school year.Schools will continue with their remote learning methods as they have done over the past fewweeks.The New York State Regents exams in June have been canceled. To schedule an appointment please contact311.MedicaidIn New York City, all active cases will be extended. No Medicaid case will be closed for failure torenew or failure to provide documentation. Any case that is closed for failure to renew or failure toprovide documentation that had Medicaid coverage on or after March 18, 2020 will be re-openedwith coverage restored to ensure no gap in coverage. Renewals will be extended for 12 months.Unemployment Update If your benefit year expired after July 1, 2019, you will need to file a new claim to receive 13additional weeks of benefits. You will receive a letter in the mail from the NYS DOL withmore details.If your benefit year has not expired, but you exhausted your 26 weeks of benefits, you willreceive a letter from NYS DOL advising you to begin certifying to receive the additional 13weeks of benefits.If your benefit year has not expired, but you stopped claiming benefits before your 26 weekswere up (for example, if you went back to work), simply begin certifying for benefits again tostart receiving UI ce.shtmThe Department of Labor will no longer require claimants to call in to confirm theirunemployment benefits. Now, the Department will instead call claimants back within 72hours.

SeniorsSeniors with underlying health conditions are at high-risk to contract Coronavirus and should takethe strictest precautions. It is encouraged that seniors limit the amount of time they spend in publicand for those who have seniors in their life to be extra cautious about social distancing and washingtheir hands. DFTA's congregate meals clients will receive direct delivery, which includes a five-mealpackage delivered to each older adult every week. DFTA has contracted with several vendorsto deliver to these senior center participants directly. Because of this, Grab-and-Go meals willno longer be offered starting tomorrow.The most direct path to access direct delivery meals is by connecting directly with their localsenior center. They can also call 311 or DFTA's Aging Connect at 212-AGING-NYC (212-2446469).Senior centers that have existing frozen or shelf-stable food in stock will continue to deliverdirectly to the homes of their members. Senior centers will cease this service upon depletionof current stock and participate in the centralized meal delivery service.Homebound older adults already receiving home-delivered meals through DFTA’s casemanagement agencies will continue as usual. To apply, please contact mcintron@boedc.org at the BOECD.Federal CARES Act:Small Business reliefTwo relief programs for small business owners are now available through the newly passed CaresAct. The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is a new program for small businesses aimedat helping them maintain their employees. The maximum size of the loan is 250% of anemployer’s average monthly payroll cost during the period Feb. 15, 2019 to June 30, 2019,capped at 10 million. The loan can be used for employee compensation; vacation, parental,family, medical, or sick leave; providing group health care benefits; payment of retirementbenefits; payroll taxes; and payment of interest on mortgage obligations, rent, utilities, andinterest on pre-existing debt obligations. If employers maintain payroll, the loans will beforgiven. Sole properties, the self-employed and gig workers are also eligible. Apply and learnmore here.An Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) is a low-interest, fixed rate loan aimed atproviding small businesses with quick, much-needed capital. Eligible applicants who applyfor an EIDL may request up to 10,000 be immediately disbursed. This amount need not berepaid, regardless of the loan decision. Businesses can receive up to 2 million in assistanceif their loan is approved. EIDL borrowers may also apply for the Paycheck ProtectionProgram, but when determining loan forgiveness, the advance EIDL grant is taken intoconsideration. Financial Assistance is now available for those covered by unemployment benefits and thosewho are who do not qualify for unemployment through the Federal Cares Act. The new lawprovides enhanced unemployment benefits and pandemic unemployment benefits for thosewithout traditional employment.Pandemic Unemployment benefits to workers who do not qualify for regular unemploymentbenefits during the COVID 19 pandemic. This include people who are self-employed,contractors and those with limited work histories.If you are covered by unemployment insurance and have exhausted your 26 weeks ofbenefits, you are eligible for an additional 13 weeks of coverage as a result of the COVID 19pandemic. Benefits will include and additional 600 a month until 7/31/2020.To apply for either unemployment or Pandemic Unemployment benefits please visit theDepartment of Labor website.Read more about the federal response HERE.Families First Coronavirus Response Act: Employee Paid Leave Rights The Families First Coronavirus Response act offers paid leave for individuals suffering withthe coronavirus, or caring for a person with coronavirus. The new program provides up to 80hours of paid leave for those who qualify. The new law also provides employees with childrenwho are no longer in school due to a closure up to 10 weeks of paid leave. Staffed by trained social workers 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days peryear.Interpretation services are offered for 200 languages.More than 10,000 mental health professionals, including individuals from other states, havesigned up to provide free online mental health services. Grants for Cultural Organizations: The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) hasissued guidance on applying for the 75 million it was allocated in the CARES Act. If anonprofit cultural organization has received NEA support in the last four fiscal years, theyare eligible to apply for a direct grant.
