INTRODUCTIONIn this examination of the Book of Enoch we only consider what agrees with Scripture because we can’tadd to it or take away from the revelation of Almighty God that the Bible is. At best we can only look atthe Book of Enoch as an ancient prophetic commentary on future Biblical content nothing more, butcertainly nothing less thanks to a single authoritative quotation in the New Testament book of Jude.Jude 1:5-23 (ESV) Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved apeople out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did notstay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains undergloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surroundingcities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. 8 Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defilethe flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. 9 But when the archangel Michael, contendingwith the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemousjudgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” 10 But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11 Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. 12 These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twicedead, uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, forwhom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. 14 It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His holyones, 15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that theyhave committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken againstHim.” 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favouritism to gain advantage. 17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their ownungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in thelove of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy onthose who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hatingeven the garment stained by the flesh. The Book of Enoch according to the Scripture here in Jude predates the first five books of Moses interms of when it was written - “Enoch, the seventh from Adam” - with only the first five and halfchapters of Genesis predating Enoch historically. The oldest extant copy of the Book of Enoch is preNew Testament and is found in amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls, (c300BC).Genesis 5:21-24 (ESV) When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. Enoch walked with Godafter he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were365 years. Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.The Book of Enoch according to the Scripture here in Jude is prophecy, “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied”. The Book of Enoch however is not the foundation of future Biblical and theologicaldevelopment. The Bible did not ‘evolve’ from the book of Enoch but the same unseen Hand that inspiredEnoch in ancient times inspired Noah, Eber, Abraham, Moses and the prophets to point all the sons ofAdam to look forward to the coming of the Messiah that is Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus as the very Word ofGod 'incarnate' is the fulfilment of the first prophecy made by God Himself that the sinless ‘Seed of theWoman’ who would come and defeat 'sin' by His dying, and 'death' by His resurrection. Jude havingidentified Enoch historically as a prophet - then quotes from the first chapter of the book of Enoch thusconnecting all three – the man, his ministry and his record. This edited version of Charles’ translationattempts to omit any interpolation, (ancient commentary which was written 'alongside' the original textand which over time was written 'into' the text by scribes as if it was the original text). Also somethingcalled pseudo-authorship where additional text written into the original text by a counterfeit author whoadds their own ‘revelation' as if it were as important as Enoch’s original revelation. The deductivereasoning for the text that is deleted is simple – if it adds to, or diminishes the plain message of Scripture - it is omitted. I have not changed the original English text except where Charles has translatedcommon Biblical reference in an unbiblical way, i.e. ‘Lord of Spirits’ becomes the ‘Lord of Hosts’. TheKing James Anglicization of the wording is also removed with references to the Lord as, the 'word ofGod', 'light' or 'my elect one' and so on are capitalized as 'Word, 'Light' and 'My Elect One' - etc. Whatremains is a remarkable forward look at the history and prophecy of the Old and New Testament andindeed the entire world, but in particular a Messianic foretaste of the Person and ministry or the LordJesus Christ Himself at His second advent and millennial reign. The Book of Enoch begins with theopening stanza; “The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed”. It endswith the “Amen” in Chapter 105:2. May the blessing of repentance and salvation from the God andFather of our Lord Jesus Christ be upon the reader in our wicked and godless day and age.

Book of Enoch - AbbreviatedCHAPTER I.1. The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who willbe living in the day of tribulation, when all thewicked and godless are to be removed.2. And he took up his parable and said Enoch arighteous man, whose eyes were opened by God,saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them Iheard everything, and from them I understoodas I saw, but not for this generation, but for aremote one which is to come.3. Concerning the elect I said, and took up myparable concerning them:THE HOLY GREAT ONE WILL COME FORTHFROM HIS DWELLING,4. And the eternal God will tread upon the earth,(even) on Mount Sinai, and appear from Hiscamp and appear in the strength of His mightfrom the heaven of heavens.5. And all shall be smitten with fear and thosewatching shall quake, and great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth.6. And the high mountains shall be shaken, andthe high hills shall be made low, and shall meltlike wax before the flame7. And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder, and all that is upon the earth shall perish, andthere shall be a judgment upon all (men).8. But with the righteous He will make peace. And will protect the elect, and mercy shall beupon them. And they shall all belong to God, andthey shall be prospered, and they shall all beblessed. And He will help them all, and light shallappear unto them, and He will make peace withthem.9. And behold! He comes with ten thousands ofHis holy ones to execute judgment upon all, andto destroy all the ungodly: And to convict allflesh of all the works of their ungodliness whichthey have ungodly committed, and of all thehard things which ungodly sinners have spokenagainst Him.This margin is for your comments.Balaam Numbers 24:4, 24:16;Elisha’s servant, 2Kings 6:17CHAPTER IX.The giving of the Law by Godthrough Moses on Mount Sinai.Jude quotationCHAPTER V.4. But you have not been steadfast, nor donethe commandments of the Lord, but you haveturned away and spoken proud and hard wordswith your impure mouths against His greatness.Oh, you hard-hearted, you shall find no peace.5. Therefore shall you execrate your days, andthe years of your life shall perish, and the yearsof your destruction shall be multiplied in eternalexecration, and you shall find no mercy.6 In those days you shall make your names aneternal execration unto all the righteous, and byyou shall all who curse, curse, and all the sinnersand godless shall imprecate by you,7 And for you the godless there shall be a curse. And all the [HEAVENS?] shall rejoice, andthere shall be forgiveness of sins, and everymercy and peace and forbearance: There shallbe salvation unto them, a goodly light. And forall of you sinners there shall be no salvation, buton you all shall abide a curse.7 But for the elect there shall be light and joyand peace, and they shall inherit the earth.8 And then there shall be bestowed upon theelect wisdom, and they shall all live and neveragain sin, either through ungodliness or throughpride: But they who are wise shall be humble.9 And they shall not again transgress, nor shallthey sin all the days of their life, nor shall theydie of (the divine) anger or wrath, but they shallcomplete the number of the days of their life. And their lives shall be increased in peace, andthe years of their joy shall be multiplied, in eternal gladness and peace, all the days of their life.1:9 and 5:4 flow together in the textreference - 'hard things spoken andhard words'. The text in between isbland naturalistic observation. 27:24. And they said to the Lord of the ages: 'Lord oflords, God of gods, King of kings, and God of theages, the throne of Your glory (stands) unto allthe generations of the ages, and Your Name holyand glorious and blessed unto all the ages!5. You have made all things, and power over allthings You have: and all things are naked andopen in Your sight, and You see all things, andnothing can hide itself from You. (Hebrews 4:13)CHAPTER X.1. Then said the Most High, the Holy and GreatOne spake, to the son of Lamech, and said tohim:2. '(Go to Noah) and tell him in my Name "Hidethyself!" and reveal to him the end that is approaching: that the whole earth will be destroyed, and a deluge is about to come upon thewhole earth, and will destroy all that is on it.3. And now instruct him that he may escape andhis Seed may be preserved for all the generations of the world.'16. Destroy all wrong from the face of the earthand let every evil work come to an end: and letthe plant of righteousness and truth appear: andit shall prove a blessing; the works of righteousness and truth shall be planted in truth and joyfor evermore.17. And then shall all the righteous escape, andshall live till they beget thousands of children, and all the days of their youth and their old ageshall they complete in peace.18. And then shall the whole earth be tilled inrighteousness, and shall all be planted with treesand be full of blessing.19. And all desirable trees shall be planted on it,and they shall plant vines on it: and the vinewhich they plant thereon shall yield wine inabundance, and as for all the seed which is sownthereon each measure (of it) shall bear a thousand, and each measure of olives shall yield tenpresses of oil.20. And cleanse you the earth from all oppression, and from all unrighteousness, and from allsin, and from all godlessness: and all the uncleanness that is wrought upon the earth destroyfrom off the earth.21. And all the children of men shall becomerighteous, and all nations shall offer adorationand shall praise Me, and all shall worship Me.And the earth shall be cleansed from all defilement, and from all sin, and from all punishment, and from all torment I will never again sendupon it from generation to generation and forever.CHAPTER XI.1. And in those days I will open the store chambers of blessing which are in the heaven, so asto send them down upon the earth over thework and labour of the children of men.2. And truth and peace shall be associated together throughout all the days of the world andthroughout all the generations of men.'Page 10

Book of EnochCHAPTER XIV.CHAPTER XVII.2. I saw in my sleep what I will now say with atongue of flesh and with the breath of my mouth:which the Great One has given to men to converse therewith and understand with the heart.8. And the vision was shown to me thus: Behold,in the vision clouds invited me and a mist summoned me, and the course of the stars and thelightnings sped and hastened me, and the windsin the vision caused me to fly and lifted me upward, and bore me into heaven.9. And I went in till I drew nigh to a wall which isbuilt of crystals and surrounded by tongues offire: and it began to affright me. And I went intothe tongues of fire and drew nigh to a largehouse which was built of crystals: and the wallsof the house were like a tessellated floor of crystals, and its groundwork was of crystal.11. Its ceiling was like the path of the stars andthe lightnings, and between them were fierycherubim, and their heaven was (clear as) water.12. A flaming fire surrounded the walls, and itsportals blazed with fire.13. And I entered into that house, and it was hotas fire and cold as ice: there were no delights oflife therein: fear covered me, and trembling gothold upon me.14. And as I quaked and trembled, I fell uponmy face.15. And I beheld a vision, And lo! there was asecond house, greater than the former, and theentire portal stood open before me, and it wasbuilt of flames of fire.16. And in every respect it so excelled in splendour and magnificence and extent that I cannotdescribe to you its splendour and its extent.17. And its floor was of fire, and above it werelightnings and the path of the stars, and its ceiling also was flaming fire.18. And I looked and saw therein a lofty throne:its appearance was as crystal, and the wheelsthereof as the shining sun, and there was thevision of cherubim.19. And from underneath the throne camestreams of flaming fire so that I could not lookthereon.20. And the Great Glory sat thereon, and Hisraiment shone more brightly than the sun andwas whiter than any snow.21. None of the angels could enter and couldbehold His face by reason of the magnificenceand glory and no flesh could behold Him.22. The flaming fire was round about Him, and agreat fire stood before Him, and none aroundcould draw nigh Him: ten thousand times tenthousand (stood) before Him, yet He needed nocounsellor.23. And the most holy ones who were nigh toHim did not leave by night nor depart from Him.24. And until then I had been prostrate on myface, trembling: and the Lord called me with Hisown mouth, and said to me: 'Come hither, Enoch, and hear my word.'25. And one of the holy ones came to me andwaked me, and He made me rise up and approach the door: and I bowed my face downwards.1. And they took and brought me to a place inwhich those who were there were like flamingfire and when they wished, they appeared asmen.2. And they brought me to the place of darkness, and to a mountain the point of whose summitreached to heaven.CHAPTER XVIII11. And I saw a deep abyss, with columns ofheavenly fire, and among them I saw columns offire fall, which were beyond measure alike towards the height and towards the depth.12. And beyond that abyss I saw a place whichhad no firmament of the heaven above, and nofirmly founded earth beneath it: there was nowater upon it, and no birds, but it was a wasteand horrible place.CHAPTER XXI.1. And I proceeded to where things were chaotic.2. And I saw there something horrible: I sawneither a heaven above nor a firmly foundedearth, but a place chaotic and horrible.7. and I saw a horrible thing: a great fire therewhich burnt and blazed, and the place was cleftas far as the abyss, being full of great descending columns of fire: neither its extent or magnitude could I see, nor could I conjecture.8. Then I said: 'How fearful is the place and howterrible to look upon!'9. Then one of the holy angels who was with meanswered me, and said unto me: 'Enoch, whyhave you such fear and affright?' And I answered: 'Because of this fearful place, and because of the spectacle of the pain.'10. And he said unto me: 'This place is theprison of the angels, [demons] and here theywill be imprisoned for ever.'CHAPTER XXIV.1. And from thence I went to another place ofthe earth , and he showed me a mountain rangeof fire which burnt day and night .2. And I went beyond it and saw seven magnificent mountains all differing each from the other, and the stones (thereof) were magnificent andbeautiful, magnificent as a whole, of gloriousappearance and fair exterior: three towards theeast, one founded on the other, and three towards the south, one upon the other, and deeprough ravines, no one of which joined with anyother.3. And the seventh mountain was in the midst ofthese, and it excelled them in height, resemblingthe seat of a throne: and fragrant trees encircledthe throne.4. And amongst them was a tree such as I hadnever yet smelt, neither was any amongst themnor were others like it: it had a fragrance beyondall fragrance, and its leaves and blooms andwood wither not for ever: and its fruit is beautiful, and its fruit resembles the dates of a palm.5. Then I said: ' How beautiful is this tree, andfragrant, and its leaves are fair, and its bloomsvery delightful in appearance.'6. Then answered Michael, one of the holy andhonoured angels who was with me, and wastheir leader.CHAPTER XV.1. And He answered and said to me, and I heardHis voice: 'Fear not, Enoch, you righteous manand scribe of righteousness: approach hither andhear my voice.Page 11

Book of Enoch - AbbreviatedHere shall they be gathered together, and hereshall be the place of their habitation.3. In the last times, in the days of the truejudgement in the presence of the righteous forever: here shall the godly bless the Lord of Glory, the Eternal King.4. In the days of judgement over the former, they shall bless Him for the mercy in accordancewith which He has assigned them (their lot).'5. Then I blessed the Lord of Glory and set forthHis glory and lauded Him gloriously.CHAPTER XXV.1. And he said unto me: 'Enoch, why do you askme regarding the fragrance of the tree, and whydo you wish to learn the truth?' Then I answeredhim saying : 'I wish to know about everything, but especially about this tree.' And he answeredsaying: 'This high mountain which you have seen, whose summit is like the throne of God, is Histhrone, where the Holy Great One, the Lord ofGlory, the Eternal King, will sit when He shallcome down to visit the earth with goodness.4. And as for this fragrant tree no mortal is permitted to touch it till the great judgement, whenHe shall take vengeance on all and bring (everything) to its consummation for ever. It shall thenbe given to the righteous and holy.5. Its fruit shall be for food to the elect: it shallbe transplanted to the holy place, to the templeof the Lord, the Eternal King.6 Then shall they rejoice with joy and be glad, and into the holy place shall they enter; and itsfragrance shall be in their bones, and they shalllive a long life on earth, such as your fatherslived: and in their days shall no sorrow or plagueor torment or calamity touch them.'7 Then blessed I the God of Glory, the EternalKing, who hath prepared such things for therighteous, and hath created them and promisedto give to them.CHAPTER XXXVIII1. The First Parable. When the congregationof the righteous shall appear, and sinners shallbe judged for their sins, and shall be driven fromthe face of the earth:2. And when the Righteous One shall appearbefore the eyes of the righteous, whose electworks hang upon the Lord of Hosts, and lightshall appear to the righteous and the elect whodwell on the earth, where then will be the dwelling of the sinners, and where the resting-placeof those who have denied the Lord of Hosts? Ithad been good for them if they had not beenborn.3. When the secrets of the righteous shall berevealed and the sinners judged, and the godless driven from the presence of the righteousand elect,4. From that time those that possess the earthshall no longer be powerful and exalted: andthey shall not be able to behold the face of theholy, for the Lord of Hosts has caused His lightto appear on the face of the holy, righteous, andelect.5. Then shall the kings and the mighty perishand be given into the hands of the righteous andholy.6. And thenceforward none shall seek for themselves mercy from the Lord of Hosts for their lifeis at an end.CHAPTER XXVI.1. And I went from thence to the middle of theearth, [CENTRE OF THE MILLENNIUM JERUSALEM?] and I saw a blessed place inwhich there were trees with branches abidingand blooming.2. And there I saw a holy mountain, and underneath the mountain to the east there was astream and it flowed towards the south.3. And I saw towards the east another mountainhigher than this, and between them a deep andnarrow ravine: in it also ran a stream underneath the mountain.4. And to the west thereof there was anothermountain, lower than the former and of smallelevation, and a ravine deep and dry betweenthem: and another deep and dry ravine was atthe extremities of the three mountains .5. And all the ravines were deep and narrow ,(being formed) of hard rock, and trees were notplanted upon them.6. And I marvelled at the rocks, and I marvelledat the ravine, yea, I marvelled very much.CHAPTER XXXIX.3. And in those days a whirlwind carried me offfrom the earth, and set me down at the end ofthe heavens.4. And there I saw another vision, the dwellingplaces of the holy, and the resting-places of therighteous.5. Here mine eyes saw their dwellings with Hisrighteous angels, and their resting-places withthe holy. And they petitioned and interceded andprayed for the children of men, and righteousness flowed before them as water, and mercylike dew upon the earth: Thus it is amongstthem for ever and ever.6 And in that place mine eyes saw the Elect Oneof righteousness and of faith,7 And I saw his dwelling-place under the wingsof the Lord of Hosts. And righteousness shallprevail in his days, and the righteous and electshall be without number before Him for ever andever. And all the righteous and elect before Himshall be strong as fiery lights, and their mouthshall be full of blessing, and their lips extol thename of the Lord of Hosts, and righteousnessbefore Him shall never fail, [And uprightnessshall never fail before Him.]8. There I wished to dwell, and my spirit longedfor that dwelling-place: and there heretoforehath been my portion, for so has it been established concerning me before the Lord of Hosts.9. In those days I praised and extolled the nameCHAPTER XXVII.1. Then said I: 'For what object is this blessedland, which is entirely filled with trees, and thisaccursed valley between?'2. Then one of the holy angels who was with me,answered and said: 'This accursed valley is forthose who are accursed for ever: Here shall allthe accursed be gathered together who utterwith their lips against the Lord unseemly wordsand of His glory speak hard things. Here shall they be gathered together, and hereshall be their place of judgement.3. In the last days there shall be upon them thespectacle of righteous judgement in the presence of the righteous for ever: here shall themerciful bless the Lord of glory, the Eternal King.Isaiah 66:24Page 12

Book of Enochof the Lord of Hosts with blessings and praises, because He hath destined me for blessing andglory according to the good pleasure of the Lordof Hosts.10. For a long time my eyes regarded that place, and I blessed Him and praised Him, saying:'Blessed is He, and may He be blessed from thebeginning and for evermore.11. And before Him there is no ceasing. Heknows before the world was created what is forever and what will be from generation unto generation.12. Those who sleep not bless You: they standbefore Your glory and bless, praise, and extol, saying: "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Hosts:He fills the earth with spirits."'13. And here my eyes saw all those who sleepnot: they stand before Him and bless and say:'Blessed be You, and blessed be the Name of theLord for ever and ever.'14. And my face was changed; for I could nolonger behold.their souls shall grow strong within them whenthey see my elect ones, and those who havecalled upon My glorious Name:4. Then will I cause My Elect One to dwellamong them. And I will transform the heavenand make it an eternal blessing and light5. And I will transform the earth and make it ablessing: And I will cause my elect ones to dwellupon it: But the sinners and evil-doers shall notset foot thereon.6. For I have provided and satisfied with peaceMy righteous ones and have caused them todwell before Me: But for the sinners there isjudgment impending with Me, so that I shalldestroy them from the face of the earth.8. And darkness to the sinners in the name ofthe Lord, who made a separation between thelight and the darkness, and divided the spirits ofmen, and strengthened the spirits of the righteous, in the name of His righteousness.9. For no angel hinders and no power is able tohinder; for He appoints a judge for them all andHe judges them all before Him.CHAPTER XL.1. And after that I saw thousands of thousandsand ten thousand times ten thousand, I saw amultitude beyond number and reckoning, whostood before the Lord of Hosts.2. And on the four sides of the Lord of Hosts Isaw four presences, different from those thatsleep not, and I learnt their names: for the angelthat went with me made known to me theirnames, and showed me all the hidden things.3. And I heard the voices of those four presences as they uttered praises before the Lord ofglory.4. The first voice blesses the Lord of Hosts forever and ever.5. And the second voice I heard blessing theElect One and the elect ones who hang upon theLord of Hosts.6. And the third voice I heard pray and intercedefor those who dwell on the earth and supplicatein the name of the Lord of Hosts.7. And I heard the fourth voice fending off theSatan and forbidding him to come before theLord of Hosts to accuse them who dwell on theearth.CHAPTER XLII.1. Wisdom found no place where she mightdwell; then a dwelling-place was assigned her inthe heavens.2 Wisdom went forth to make her dwellingamong the children of men, and found no dwelling-place: Wisdom returned to her place, andtook her seat among the angels.3 And unrighteousness went forth from herchambers: Whom she sought not she found, anddwelt with them, as rain in a desert and dew ona thirsty land.CHAPTER XLVI.Description of the Father and theSon found in Daniel and RevelationCHAPTER XLI.1. And after that I saw all the secrets of theheavens, and how the kingdom is divided, andhow the actions of men are weighed in the balance.2. And there I saw the mansions of the elect andthe mansions of the holy, and mine eyes sawthere all the sinners being driven from thencewhich deny the name of the Lord of Hosts, andbeing dragged off: and they could not abidebecause of the punishment which proceeds fromthe Lord of Hosts.CHAPTER XLV.1. And this is the Second Parable concerningthose who deny the Name of the dwelling of theholy ones and the Lord of Hosts.2. And into the heaven they shall not ascend, and on the earth they shall not come: Such shallbe the lot of the sinners who have denied theName of the Lord of Hosts, who are thus preserved for the day of suffering and tribulation.3. On that day My Elect One shall sit on thethrone of glory and shall try their works, andtheir places of rest shall be innumerable. AndPage 131. And there I saw One who had a Head of Days, and His head was white like wool, [Ancient ofDays] and with Him was another being whosecountenance had the appearance of a Man, andHis face was full of graciousness, like one of theholy angels.2. And I asked the angel who went with me andshowed me all the hidden things, concerningthat Son of Man, who He was, and from whereHe was, (and) why He went with the Head ofDays? And he answered and said unto me: Thisis the Son of Man who hath righteousness, withwhom dwells righteousness, and who reveals allthe treasures of that which is hidden, becausethe Lord of Hosts hath chosen Him, and whoselot hath the pre-eminence before the Lord ofHosts in uprightness for ever.4, And this Son of Man whom you have seenshall raise up the kings and the mighty fromtheir seats, [and the strong from their thrones]and shall loosen the reins of the strong, andbreak the teeth of the sinners.5.

The Book of Enoch according to the Scripture here in Jude predates the first five books of Moses in terms of when it was written - “Enoch, the seventh from Adam” - with only the first five and half chapters of Genesis predating Enoch historically.
