IntroductionThe Book of Enoch (also 1 Enoch[1]) is an ancient Jewish religious work, ascribed toEnoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. It is not regarded as scripture by Jews or anyChristian group, apart from the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, which to this day regards itto be canonical.Western scholars currently assert that its older sections (mainly in the Book of theWatchers) date from about 300 BC and the latest part (Book of Parables) probably wascomposed at the end of the 1st century BC.[2] However, Ethiopian scholars generallyhold that Ge'ez is the language of the original from which the Greek and Aramaic copieswere made, pointing out that it is the only language in which the complete text has yetbeen found[3].It is wholly extant only in the Ge'ez language, with Aramaic fragments from the DeadSea Scrolls and a few Greek and Latin fragments. There is no consensus amongWestern scholars about the original language: some propose Aramaic, others Hebrew, while the probable thesis according to E. Isaac is that 1 Enoch, as Daniel, was composedpartially in Aramaic and partially in Hebrew[4]:6.A short section of 1 Enoch (1En1:9) is quoted in the New Testament (Letter of Jude1:14-15), and there apparently attributed to "Enoch the Seventh from Adam" (1En60:8).It is argued that all the writers of the New Testament were familiar with it and wereinfluenced by it in thought and diction.[5] The first part of Book of Enoch describes thefall of the Watchers, the angels who fathered the Nephilim. The remainder of the bookdescribes Enoch's visits to Heaven in the form of travels, visions and dreams, and hisrevelations. The book consists of five quite distinct major sections (see each section for details):The Book of the Watchers (1 Enoch 1 – 36)The Book of Parables of Enoch (1 Enoch 37 – 71) (Also called the Similitudes ofEnoch)The Astronomical Book (1 Enoch 72 – 82) (Also called the Book of the HeavenlyLuminaries or Book of Luminaries. )The Book of Dream Visions (1 Enoch 83 – 90) (Also called the Book of Dreams)The Epistle of Enoch (1 Enoch 91 – 108)The shared view[6] is that these five sections were originally independent works (withdifferent dates of composition), themselves a product of much editorial arrangement, and were only later redacted into what we now call 1 Enoch. This view is now opposedonly by a few authors who maintain the literary integrity of the Book of Enoch, one of2

the most recent (1990) being the Ethiopian Wossenie Yifru[3]. Józef Milik hassuggested that the Book of Giants found amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls should be part ofthe collection, appearing after the Book of Watchers in place of the Book of Parables, but for various reasons Milik's theory has not been widely accepted.Canonicity in JudaismAlthough evidently widely known at the time of the Development of the Jewish Biblecanon, 1Enoch was excluded from both the formal canon of the Tanakh and the typicalcanon of the Septuagint and therefore also the writings known today as theApocrypha.[7] [8] One possible reason for Jewish rejection of the book might be thetextual nature of several early sections of the book which make use of material from theTorah, for example 1En1 is a midrash of Deuteronomy 33. [9][10]. The content, particularly detailed description of fallen angels, would also be a reason for rejectionfrom the Hebrew canon at this period - as illustrated by the comments of Trypho theJew when debating with Justin Martyr on this subject. Trypho: "The utterances of Godare holy, but your expositions are mere contrivances, as is plain from what has beenexplained by you; nay, even blasphemies, for you assert that angels sinned and revoltedfrom God." (Dialogue 79) [11]3

THEBOOK OF ENOCHtranslation by M. Knibb of the Ethiopian text in theS.O.A.S. Library at the University of London.Section I. Chapters I-XXXVIBOOK OF THE WATCHERS1.1These are the words of theblessing of Enoch; according to whichhe blessed the chosen and righteouswho must be present on the day ofdistress, which is appointed, for theremoval of all the wicked and impious.1.2 And Enoch began his story and said:There was a righteous man whose eyeswere opened by the Lord, and he saw aHoly vision in the Heavens, which theAngels showed to me. And I heardeverything from them, and I understoodwhat I saw: but not for this generation, but for a distant generation that willcome.1.3 Concerning the Chosen I spoke; andI uttered a parable concerning them:The Holy and Great One will come outof his dwelling.1.4 And the Eternal God will tread fromthere upon Mount Sinai, and he willappear with his Host, and will appear inthe strength of his power from Heaven.1.5 And all will be afraid, and theWatchers will shake, and fear and greattrembling will seize them, up to theends of the earth.1.6 And the high mountains will beshaken; and the high hills will be laidlow and will melt like wax in a flame.1.7 And the earth will sink, andeverything that is on the earth will bedestroyed, and there will be judgmentupon all, and upon all the righteous.1.8 But for the righteous: He will makepeace, and He will keep safe theChosen, and mercy will be upon them.4They will all belong to God, and willprosper and be blessed, and the light ofGod will shine on them.1.9 And behold! He comes with tenthousand Holy Ones; to executejudgment upon them and to destroy theimpious, and to contend with all fleshconcerning everything that the sinnersand the impious have done and wroughtagainst Him.2.1 Contemplate all the events in thesky; how the lights in the sky do notchange their courses, how each rises andsets in order, each at its proper time, andthey do not transgress their law.2.2 Consider the earth and understandfrom the work that is done upon it, fromthe beginning to the end, that no workof God changes as it becomes manifest.2.3 Consider the summer and thewinter; how the whole earth is full ofwater and the clouds and dew and rainrest upon it.3.1 Contemplate and see how all thetrees appear withered and all theirleaves are stripped - with the exceptionof the fourteen trees, which are notstripped, which remain with the oldleaves until the new come after two orthree years.4.1 And, again, contemplate the daysof summer; how at its beginning theSun is above it. You seek shelter andshade because of the heat of the Sun andthe earth burns with scorching heat, andyou cannot tread upon the earth or upona rock, because of its heat.

5.1 Contemplate how the trees arecovered with green leaves and bearfruit. And understand, in respect ofeverything, and perceive how He WhoLives Forever made all these things foryou.5.2 And how His works are before Himin each succeeding year, and all Hisworks serve Him and do not change; butas God has decreed - so everything isdone.5.3 And consider how the seas andrivers together complete their tasks.5.4 But you have not persevered in, norobserved, the Law of the Lord. But youhave transgressed and have spokenproud and hard words with your uncleanmouth against his majesty. You hard ofheart! You will not have peace!5.5 And because of this you will curseyour days, and the years of your life youwill destroy. And the eternal curse willincrease and you will not receive mercy.5.6 In those days, you will transformyour name into an eternal curse to allthe righteous. And they will curse yousinners forever.5.7 For the chosen; there will be light, joy, and peace, and they will inherit theearth. But for you, the impious, therewill be a curse.5.8 When wisdom is given to the chosenthey will all live, and will not again dowrong, either through forgetfulness, orthrough pride. But those who possesswisdom will be humble.5.9 They will not again do wrong, andthey will not be judged in all the days oftheir life, and they will not die of wrathor anger. But they will complete thenumber of the days of their life. Andtheir life will grow in peace, and theyears of their joy will increase ingladness and eternal peace; all the daysof their life.6.1 And it came to pass, when the sons2of men had increased, that in those daysthere were born to them fair andbeautiful daughters.6.2 And the Angels, the sons of Heaven, saw them and desired them. And theysaid to one another: "Come, let uschoose for ourselves wives, from thechildren of men, and let us beget, forourselves, children."6.3 And Semyaza, who was their leader, said to them:"I fear that you may not wish this deedto be done and that I alone will pay forthis great sin."6.4 And they all answered him, andsaid:"Let us all swear an oath, and bind oneanother with curses, so not to alter thisplan, but to carry out this planeffectively."6.5 Then they all swore together and allbound one another with curses to it.6.6 And they were, in all, two hundredand they came down on Ardis, which isthe summit of Mount Hermon. Andthey called the mountain Hermonbecause on it they swore and bound oneanother with curses.6.7 And these are the names of theirleaders:Semyaza, who was their leader, Urakiba(Araqiel) , Rameel, Kokabiel, Tamiel,Ramiel, Daniel, Ezeqiel, Baraqiel,Asael, Armaros, Batariel, Ananel,Zaqiel, Samsiel, Satariel, Turiel,Yomiel, Sariel. (see Ch 8 & Ch 69)6.8 These are the leaders of the twohundred Angels and of all the otherswith them.7.1And they took wives forthemselves and everyone chose forhimself one each. And they began to gointo them and were promiscuous withthem. And they taught them charmsand spells, and they showed them thecutting of roots and trees.7.2 And they became pregnant and borelarge giants. And their height was threethousand cubits.

7.3 These devoured all the toil of men;until men were unable to sustain them.7.4 And the giants turned against themin order to devour men.7.5 And they began to sin against birds, and against animals, and againstreptiles, and against fish, and theydevoured one another's flesh, and drankthe blood from it.7.6 Then the Earth complained aboutthe lawless ones.8.1 And Azazel taught men to makeswords, and daggers, and shields, andbreastplates. And he showed them thethings after these, and the art of makingthem; bracelets, and ornaments, and theart of making up the eyes, and ofbeautifying the eyelids, and the mostprecious stones, and all kinds ofcoloured dyes. And the world waschanged.8.2 And there was great impiety, andmuch fornication, and they went astray, and all their ways became corrupt.8.3 Amezarak taught all those who castspells and cut roots, Armaros the releaseof spells, and Baraqiel astrologers, andKokabiel portents, and Tamiel taughtastrology, and Asradel taught the pathof the Moon.8.4 And at the destruction of men theycried out; and their voices reachedHeaven.9.1 And then Michael, Gabriel, Surieland Uriel, looked down from Heavenand saw the mass of blood that wasbeing shed on the earth and all theiniquity that was being done on theearth.9.2 And they said to one another: "Letthe devastated Earth cry out with thesound of their cries, up to the Gate ofHeaven.9.3 And now to you, Oh Holy Ones ofHeaven, the souls of men complain, saying: "Bring our complaint before theMost High."39.4 And they said to their Lord, theKing: "Lord of Lords, God of Gods,King of Kings! Your glorious throneendures for all the generations of theworld, and blessed and praised!9.5 You have made everything, andpower over everything is yours. Andeverything is uncovered, and open, infront of you, and you see everything, and there is nothing that can be hiddenfrom you.9.6 See then what Azazel has done; howhe has taught all iniquity on the earthand revealed the eternal secrets that aremade in Heaven.9.7 And Semyaza has made knownspells, he to whom you gave authorityto rule over those who are with him.9.8 And they went into the daughters ofmen together, lay with those women, became unclean, and revealed to themthese sins.9.9 And the women bore giants, andthereby the whole Earth has been filledwith blood and iniquity.9.10 And now behold the souls whichhave died cry out and complain unto theGate of Heaven, and their lament hasascended, and they cannot go out in theface of the iniquity which is beingcommitted on the earth.9.11 And you know everything, beforeit happens, and you know this, and whatconcerns each of them. But you saynothing to us. What ought we to dowith them, about this?"10.1 And then the Most High, theGreat and Holy One, spoke and sentArsyalalyur to the son of Lamech, andsaid to him:10.2 "Say to him in my name; hideyourself! And reveal to him the end, which is coming, because the wholeearth will be destroyed. A deluge isabout to come on all the earth; and allthat is in it will be destroyed.10.3 And now teach him so that he mayescape and his offspring may survive

for the whole Earth."10.4 And further the Lord said toRaphael: "Bind Azazel by his handsand his feet and throw him into thedarkness. And split open the desert, which is in Dudael, and throw himthere.10.5 And throw on him jagged andsharp stones and cover him withdarkness. And let him stay thereforever. And cover his face so that hemay not see the light.10.6 And so that, on the Great Day ofJudgment, he may be hurled into thefire.10.7 And restore the Earth which theAngels have ruined. And announce therestoration of the Earth. For I shallrestore the Earth so that not all the sonsof men shall be destroyed because of theknowledge which the Watchers madeknown and taught to their sons.10.8 And the whole Earth has beenruined by the teaching of the works ofAzazel; and against him write: ALLSIN."10.9 And the Lord said to Gabriel:“Proceed against the bastards, and thereprobates, and against the sons of thefornicators. And destroy the sons of thefornicators, and the sons of theWatchers, from amongst men. Andsend them out, and send them againstone another, and let them destroythemselves in battle; for they will nothave length of days.10.10 And they will petition you, butthe petitioners will gain nothing inrespect of them, for they hope foreternal life, and that each of them willlive life for five hundred years."10.11 And the Lord said to Michael:"Go, inform Semyaza, and the otherswith him, who have associated with thewomen to corrupt themselves with themin all their uncleanness.10.12 When all their sons kill eachother, and when they see the destructionof their loved ones, bind them forseventy generations, under the hills of4the earth, until the day of their judgmentand of their consummation, until thejudgment, which is for all eternity, isaccomplished.10.13 And in those days, they will leadthem to the Abyss of Fire; in torment, and in prison they will be shut up for alleternity.10.14 And then Semyaza will be burnt, and from then on destroyed with them;together they will be bound until theend of all generations.10.15 And destroy all the souls of lust, and the sons of the Watchers, for theyhave wronged men.10.16 Destroy all wrong from the faceof the Earth and every evil work willcease.10.17 And now all the righteous will behumble, and will live until they begetthousands. And all the days of theiryouth, and their sabbaths, they willfulfill in peace.10.18 And in those days the whole earthwill be tilled in righteousness and all ofit will be planted with trees; and it willbe filled with blessing.10.19 And all the pleasant trees theywill plant on it and they will plant on itvines. And the vine that is planted on itwill produce fruit in abundance; andevery seed that is sown on it, eachmeasure will produce a thousand, andeach measure of olives will produce tenbaths of oil.10.20 And you cleanse the Earth fromall wrong, and from all iniquity, andfrom all sin, and from all impiety, andfrom all the uncleanness which isbrought about on the earth.10.21 And all the sons of men shall berighteous, and all the nations shall serveand bless me and all shall worship me.10.22 And the Earth will be cleansedfrom all corruption, and from all sin,and from all wrath, and from alltorment; and I will not again send aflood upon it, for all generations, forever.

11.1 And in those days, I will openthe Storehouses of Blessing, which arein Heaven, so that I may send themdown upon the Earth, upon the work, and upon the toil, of the sons of men.11.2 Peace and truth will be united, forall the days of eternity, and for all thegenerations of eternity.12.1 And then Enoch disappearedand none of the sons of men knewwhere he was hidden, where he was, orwhat had happened.12.2 And all his doings were with theHoly Ones, and with the Watchers, inhis days.12.3 And I Enoch, was blessing theGreat Lord and the King of Eternity. And behold, the Watchers called to me Enoch the scribe - and said to me:12.4 "Enoch, scribe of righteousness.Go and inform the Watchers of Heaven, who have left the High Heaven and theHoly Eternal Place, and have corruptedthemselves with women, and have doneas the sons of men do and have takenwives for themselves, and have becomecompletely corrupt on the earth.12.5 They will have on Earth, neitherpeace, nor forgiveness of sin, for theywill not rejoice in their sons.12.6 The slaughter of their beloved onesthey will see; and over the destructionof their sons they will lament andpetition forever. But they will haveneither mercy nor peace.”13.1 And Enoch went and said toAzazel: "You will not have peace. Asevere sentence has come out againstyou that you should be bound.13.2 And you will have neither rest normercy, nor the granting of any petitions, because of the wrong which you havetaught, and because of all the works ofblasphemy and wrong and sin whichyou have shown to the sons of men."513.3 And then I went and spoke to themall together, and they were all afraid;fear and trembling seized them.13.4 And they asked me to write out forthem the record of a petition, so thatthey might receive forgiveness, and totake a record of their petition up to theLord in Heaven.13.5 For they were not able, from thenon, to speak, and they did not raise theireyes to Heaven, out of shame for thesins, for which they had beencondemned.13.6 And then I wrote out the record oftheir petition, and their supplication inregard to their spirits, and the deeds ofeach one of them, and in regard to whatthey asked; that they should obtainabsolution and forbearance.13.7 And I went and sat down by thewaters of Dan, in Dan, which issouthwest of Hermon; and I read out therecord of their petition, until I fellasleep.13.8 And behold a dream came to me,and visions fell upon me, and I saw avision of wrath; that I should speak tothe sons of Heaven and reprove them.13.9 And I woke up and went to them, and they were all sitting gatheredtogether as they mourned, inUbelseyael, which is between Lebanonand Senir, with their faces covered.13.10 And I spoke in front of them all;the visions that I had seen in my sleep, and I began to speak these words toreprove the Watchers of Heaven.14.1This book is the word ofrighteousness, and of reproof, for theWatchers who are from Eternity; as theHoly and Great One commanded in thatvision.14.2 I saw in my sleep what I will nowtell, with the tongue of flesh, and withmy breath, which the Great One hasgiven men in the mouth, so that theymight speak with it, and understandwith the heart.

14.3 As He has created, and appointed, men to understand the word ofknowledge, so He created and appointedme to reprove the Watchers, the sons ofHeaven.14.4 And I wrote out your petition, butin my vision, thus it appeared, that yourpetition would not be granted to you, forall the days of eternity; and completejudgment has been decreed against you,and you will not have peace.14.5 And from now on, you will notascend into Heaven, for all eternity, andit has been decreed that you will bebound on Earth for all the days ofeternity.14.6 And before this, you will have seenthe destruction of your beloved sons, and you will not be able to enjoy them, but they will fall before you by thesword.14.7 And your petition will not begranted in respect of them or in respectof yourselves. And while you weep andsupplicate you do not speak a singleword from the writings which I havewritten.14.8 And the vision appeared to me, asfollows: - Behold; clouds called me inthe vision, and mist called me. And thepath of the stars, and flashes oflightning, hastened me and drove me.And in the vision winds caused me tofly, and hastened me, and lifted me upinto the sky.14.9 And I proceeded until I came neara wall which was made of hailstones, and a tongue of fire surrounded it, and itbegan to make me afraid.14.10 And I went into the tongue of fireand came near to a large house, whichwas built of hailstones, and the wall ofthat house was like a mosaic ofhailstones and its floor was snow.14.11 Its roof was like the path of thestars and flashes of lightning, andamong them was fiery cherubim, andtheir sky was like water.14.12 And there was a fire burningaround its wall and its door was ablaze6with fire.14.13 And I went into that house, and itwas as hot as fire and as cold as snow, and there was neither pleasure nor lifein it. Fear covered me and tremblingtook hold of me.14.14 And as I was shaking andtrembling, I fell on my face.14.15 And I saw in the vision, andbehold, another house which was largerthan the former and all its doors wereopen before me, and it was built of atongue of fire.14.16 And in everything, it so excelledin glory and splendor and size, so that Iam unable to describe to you its gloryand its size.14.17 And its floor was fire, and abovelightning and the path of the stars, andits roof also was a burning fire.14.18 And I looked, and I saw in it, ahigh throne, and its appearance was likeice, and its surrounds like the shiningSun and the sound of cherubim.14.19 And from underneath the highthrone there flowed out rivers of fire sothat it was impossible to look at it.14.20 And He who is Great in Glory satupon it, and his raiment was brighterthan the Sun, and whiter than any snow.14.21 And no Angel could enter, and atthe appearance of the face of Him whois Honoured and Praised, no creature offlesh could look.14.22 A sea of fire burnt around Him,and a great fire stood in front of Him,and none of those around Him camenear to Him. Ten thousand times tenthousand stood before Him but Heneeded no Holy Council.14.23 And the Holy Ones who werenear to Him did not leave by night orday and did not depart from Him.14.24 And until then I had a coveringon my face, as I trembled. And theLord called me with his own mouth, andsaid to me: "Come here, Enoch, to myHoly Word."14.25 And He lifted me up and broughtme near to the door. And I looked, with

my face down.15.1 And He answered me, and saidto me with His voice: "Hear! Do not beafraid, Enoch, you righteous man, andscribe of righteousness. Come here andhear my voice.15.2 And go say to the Watchers ofHeaven, who sent you to petition ontheir behalf: You ought to petition onbehalf of men, not men on behalf ofyou.15.3 Why have you left the High, Holyand Eternal Heaven, and lain withwomen, and become unclean with thedaughters of men, and taken wives foryourselves, and done as the sons of theearth, and begotten giant sons?15.4 And you were spiritual, Holy, living an eternal life, but you becameunclean upon the women, and begotchildren through the blood of flesh, andlusted after the blood of men, andproduced flesh and blood, as they do,who die and are destroyed.15.5 And for this reason I give menwives; so that they might sow seed inthem, and so that children might be bornby them, so that deeds might be done onthe Earth.15.6 But you, formerly, were spiritual, living an eternal, immortal life, for allthe generations of the world.15.7 For this reason I did not arrangewives for you; because the dwelling ofthe spiritual ones is in Heaven.15.8 And now, the giants who wereborn from body and flesh will be calledEvil Spirits on the Earth, and on theEarth will be their dwelling.15.9 And evil spirits came out fromtheir flesh, because from above theywere created, from the Holy Watcherswas their origin and first foundation.Evil spirits they will be on Earth and‘Spirits of the Evil Ones’ they will becalled.15.10 And the dwelling of the Spirits ofHeaven is Heaven, but the dwelling ofthe spirits of the Earth, who were born7on the Earth, is Earth.15.11 And the spirits of the giants dowrong, are corrupt, attack, fight, breakon the Earth, and cause sorrow. Andthey eat no food, do not thirst, and arenot observed.15.12 And these spirits will rise againstthe sons of men, and against thewomen, because they came out of themduring the days of slaughter anddestruction.16.1 And the death of the giants, wherever the spirits have gone out fromtheir bodies, their flesh will bedestroyed, before the Judgment. Thusthey will be destroyed until the Day oftheGreatConsummationisaccomplished, upon the Great Age,upon the Watchers and the impiousones."16.2 And now to the Watchers, whosent you to petition on their behalf, whowere formerly in Heaven:16.3 "You were in Heaven but itssecrets had not yet been revealed to you;and a worthless mystery you knew. This you made known to women, in thehardness of your hearts. And throughthis mystery the women and the mencause evil to increase on the Earth."16.4 Say to them therefore: "You willnot have peace."17.1 And they took me to a placewhere they were like burning fire, and, when they wished, they madethemselves look like men.17.2 And they led me to a place ofstorm, and to a mountain, the tip ofwhose summit reached to Heaven.17.3 And I saw lighted places, andthunder in the outermost ends, in itsdepths a bow of fire, and arrows andtheir quivers, and a sword of fire, andall the flashes of lightning.17.4 And they took me to the Water ofLife, as it is called, and to the Fire of the

West, which receives every setting ofthe Sun.17.5 And I came to a river of fire, whose fire flows like water, and poursout into the Great Sea, which is towardsthe west.17.6 And I saw all the great rivers, and Ireached the Great Darkness, and wentwhere all flesh walks.17.7 And I saw the Mountains of theDarkness of Winter and the place wherethe water of all the deeps pours out.17.8 And I saw the mouths of all therivers of the Earth, and the mouth of thedeep.18.1 And I saw the storehouses of allthe winds, and I saw how with them Hehas adorned all creation, and I saw thefoundations of the Earth.18.2 And I saw the cornerstone of theEarth. And I saw the four winds whichsupport the Earth and the sky.18.3 And I saw how the winds stretchout the height of Heaven, and how theyposition themselves between Heavenand Earth; they are the Pillars ofHeaven.18.4 And I saw the winds which turnthe sky and cause the disc of the Sunand all the stars to set.18.5 And I saw the winds on the Earthwhich support the clouds and I saw thepaths of the Angels. I saw at the end ofthe Earth; the firmament of Heavenabove.18.6 And I went towards the south, andit was burning day and night, wherethere were seven mountains of preciousstones, three towards the east and threetowards the south.18.7 And those towards the east were ofcoloured stone, and one was of pearl, and one of healing stone; and thosetowards the south, of red stone.18.8 And the middle one reached toHeaven, like the throne of the Lord, ofstibium, and the top of the throne was ofsapphire.18.9 And I saw a burning fire, and what8was in all the mountains.18.10 And I saw a place there, beyondthe great earth; there the watersgathered together.18.11 And I saw a deep chasm of theearth, with pillars of heavenly fire, and Isaw among them fiery pillars ofHeaven, which were falling, and asregards both height and depth, theywere immeasurable.18.12 And beyond this chasm, I saw aplace, and it had neither the sky aboveit, nor the foundation of earth below it;there was no water on it, and no birds, but it was a desert place.18.13 And a terrible thing I saw there, seven stars, like great burningmountains.18.14 And like a spirit questioning me,the Angel said: “This is the place of theend of Heaven and Earth; this is theprison for the Stars of Heaven and theHost of Heaven.18.15 And the stars which roll over thefire, these are the ones whichtransgressed the command of the Lord, from the beginning of their rising, because they did not come out at theirproper times.18.16 And He was angry with them, andbound them until the time of theconsummation of their sin, in the Yearof Mystery.”19.1 And Uriel said to me:“Thespirits of the Angels who werepromiscuous with women will standhere; and they, assuming many forms, made men unclean and will lead menastray so that they sacrifice to demonsas gods. And they will stand there untilthe great judgment day, on which theywill be judged, so that an end will bemade of them.19.2 And their wives, having led astraythe Angels of Heaven, will becomepeaceful.”19.3 And I, Enoch, alone saw the sight, the ends of everything; and no man hasseen what I have seen.

20.1 And these are the names of theHoly Angels who keep watch.20.2 Uriel, one of the Holy Angels;namely the Holy Angel of the Spirits ofMen.20.4 Raguel, one of the Holy Angels;who takes vengeance on the world, andon the lights.20.5 Michael, one of the Holy Angels, namely the one put in charge of the bestpart of humankind, in charge of thenation.20.6 Saraqael, one of the Holy Angels;who is in charge of the spirits of menwho cause the spirits to sin.20.7 Gabriel, one of the Holy Angels, who is in charge of the Serpents, and theGarden, and the Cherubim.21.1 And I went round to a placewhere nothing was made.21.2 And I saw a terrible thing, neitherthe High Heaven nor the firm ground, but a desert place, prepared and terrible.21.3 And there, I saw seven Stars ofHeaven, bound on it together, like greatmountains, and burning like fire.21.4 Then I said: “For what sin havethey been bound, and why have theybeen thrown here?”21.5 And Uriel, one of the Holy Angels, who was with me and led me, spoke tome and said: "Enoch, about whom doyou ask? About whom do you inquire, ask, and care?21.6 These are some of the stars whichtransgressed the command
