THE2020, Introduction to Theatre for Majors, had beenthe prerequisite introduction course for all theatre majors. This change recognizes THE2000,Introduction to Theatre, as an accepted introductory course for theatre majors.2) Rationale/History: THE2000, Introduction to Theatre, is a class that has been offered for manyyears at UF. This course serves a general education requirement and, at one time fulfilled theintroduction requirement for majors. Nearly thirteen years ago faculty wanted to provide anintroduction course specifically for majors in order to better prepare them for continued studyin the field. Since that time, THE2000 has undergone revisions and is a more rigorous coursethan it once was. The Performance Area faculty believe that THE2000 now does prepare majorsfor continued coursework much in the same way that THE2020, Intro. for Majors, does. Thefaculty members who teach THE2000 and THE2020 concur that both classes adequately preparetheatre majors for continued study in theatre. This change in curriculum will also allow students who were not majors when they tookTHE2000 to change their major and not have to retake another introductory course, thereforeallowing them to matriculate in a wider range of lower level electives. The ultimate result is the THE2000 OR THE2020 will be required of theatre majors. The Foundation for The Gator NationAn Equal Opportunity Institution
