MODEL REQUIREMENTSPlaying exciting, atmospheric games with paintedminiatures is a big part of our events at GrapevineConvention Centre. With this in mind, all miniatures inyour collection must be 100% Citadel or Forge Worldminiatures, and be fully assembled, painted and based. Eachmodel must completely and accurately represent its entry onyour army roster (including all weapons and equipment). Ifyou have painted your models in a specific way, we expectyou to use the rules relevant to that scheme. For example, ifyou have painted your models as Salamanders, your armymust have the Salamanders keyword. If you have created your own unique colour scheme, thenyou may give them any keyword that you wish. If you haveused different keywords between Detachments, there mustbe a clear visual difference between each Detachment. Forexample, if you have a Tyranid army with Detachmentsfrom both Hive Fleet Kraken and Kronos, the models ineach Detachment must be clearly distinguishable from oneto another such as a different coloured carapace. If you areunsure whether something is clearly distinguishable, contactus via the details at the end of this pack. Finally, you need to contact us to let us know aboutany conversions you are planning on using, andprovide us with photos of the models in questionwhere possible. Don’t worry – we fully appreciatespectacular modelling skills, but we just want tomake sure everything is super clear for your opponentso that no confusion can arise during games. To protect everyone’s experience, we will politelyask you to remove any models thatdon’t meet these standards.ARE YOU PLANNING ON USING CONVERTEDMODELS IN YOUR ARMY?YESNOContact us atCarry on. There’s nothing to worryabout except getting it painted on time!eventsupport@gwplc.comor call us( 44) 0115 900 4994and check to make sure your conversionis appropriate for our events.** THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THIS EVENT.Your local Games Workshop, independent stockist orgaming club may do things differently. If you contact us, please include pictures of the modelsin question. And don’t panic! We’re very friendly and welove creativity in modelling.3

YOUR ARMY AND THE GAMESWhen choosing your army, adhere to the following rules: Matched play (pg 214) and Battleforged (pg 240) in theWarhammer 40,000 rulebook Matched Play in Chapter Approved: 2018 Edition FAQs, Errata and Beta rules found via www.warhammercommunity. com/faqsYou will require an army of no more than 1,750 pointsto play at this event. You can take a maximum of threeDetachments in your army.Excluding Troops and Dedicated Transports, each datasheetcan be included a maximum of three times in your army. When building your army, all current and in-printWarhammer 40,000 rules found in the following GamesWorkshop and Forge World publications are in use, unlesstheir release falls on the weekend of the event: Codexes Campaign books (e.g. Vigilus Defiant) Indexbooks Chapter Approved: 2018 Edition White Dwarf Beta rules FAQs and errataWe expect you to use the most current rules and datasheetsfor your models – e.g. those found in a Codex rather thanan Index. This means that you may use Faction-appropriateIndex datasheets that might not appear in your Codex(such as Chaplain on Bike). Once you are happy withyour army, you must record it on an army roster – a PDFdownload of a blank army roster is available from www.warhammercommunity.com. All text must be clearlyreadable for us and your opponent to check. You will needto hand one copy of your army roster in at registration, and have at least one other copy to give to your opponentsbefore each game. You must use the same army rosterfor each game, and all choices available to you must benoted down on your army roster. Remember that yourroster must include things like reinforcement points, total4Command Points, army Faction, who your Warlord is andwhat Detachments you are using. You must also record anySpecialist Detachments and deduct the relevant CommandPoints from your total.Psychic powers, Warlord Traits, your chosen Relic andspecific Faction keywords, such as or , must be decidedon before the event and recorded on your army roster.Anything else that is used ‘before the battle’ does not needto be recorded on your army roster. This is to give playerstactical flexibility each round.Common examples of this are Stratagems such as Relics ofthe Chapter (Codex: Space Marines) or Banner of Blood(Codex: Chaos Daemons). Simply declare their use to youropponent before the ‘Deployment’ step of a mission. The Grand Tournament will consist of five matched playgames. You will be playing Eternal War missions fromChapter Approved: 2018 Edition, and you will have twohours and thirty minutes to play each game. Your opponentfor your first game will be randomly determined, then, fromgame two onwards, we will use a ‘Swiss’ system to match youagainst players of a similar rank. By playing an opponent ofa similar rank you are more likely to be matched up evenly, creating enjoyable games for all. Each mission will be randomly determined by the eventsteam before the round starts. Once a mission has beenplayed, it will not be played again, so you will play five of thesix Eternal War missions in a Heat. Play through the missionexactly as laid out in Chapter Approved: 2018 Edition(these can be found on pages 48-53), including rules fordetermining which standard deployment map is used. You will be given an event scorecard when you register forthe event, and during each round you will be given a roundresult slip. At the end of each game, record your score onyour scorecard and hand in the completed result slip to astaff member. Information on scoring can be found on thenext page.

GRAND TOURNAMENT SCORESThe Warhammer 40,000 GrandTournament ranks players overall bya Grand Tournament score, or GTscore for short. This is a combinationof gaming, sportsmanship and armypresentation scores. Your gaming scoreis based on the results of your games– you can achieve a maximum of 50points here for winning all five games(60 at the Grand Final). You can thenachieve a maximum of 10 points forsportsmanship and army presentationscores. These scores combined createyour GT score. Your scorecard willcontain spaces to record all thefollowing information.Gaming ScoresAt the end of each game, you and youropponent will need to record yourresults on your scorecard and resultslip, and then hand in the result slip tothe event staff. We need you to do thisas promptly as possible so that the nextgame can be organised straight away. Each game lasts two hours and thirtyminutes, and once the game ends, youwill have five minutes to record yourresult with the events team.To determine the winner of eachgame, use the victory conditions aslaid out in the mission. Once youknow the result, you will record it onyour scorecard and result slip usingthe following system: Win the game – 10 points Draw the game – 5 points Lose the game – 0 pointsFor each game you will also need torecord on your scorecard the followingthree secondary victory conditions (ifyou achieve them), which will be usedas tiebreakers should the need arise(see the Tiebreakers box, below). Slay The Warlord Linebreaker First StrikeFinally. players should also recordthe total points value of enemy unitsdestroyed during the battle. Anyunits not on the board at the end ofthe game count as destroyed. If allenemy units have been destroyed, theopposing player should record 1,750points of enemy units destroyed. This is to ensure that players aren’tpenalised in the rankings if theiropponent has not taken exactly 1,750points in their army.Sportsmanship andArmy PresentationScoresThese scores are calculated by votingin the following two categories whenyou hand in your final results at theend of the event. You get two votesin each category, and you must voteonly for those players and armies youIf players earn the same GT score by theend of the event we will use the followingtiebreakers to establish final rankings. Theyare listed here in order of priority: Total points value of enemy units destroyed Total secondary victory conditionsachieved. Total Slay The Warlord victory conditionsachievedplayed against. This is also a secretballot, so don’t let anyone see whoyou’ve voted for!Favourite Game – You can votefor the two opponents you enjoyedplaying against the most (note thatyou can’t vote for the same opponenttwice!). Maybe they displayedexcellent sportsmanship, perhaps theywere positive and friendly, or it wasgenerally a fun and engaging game.Favourite Army – You can vote forthe two armies you played against thatyou liked the look of the most (notethat you can’t vote for the same armytwice!). Excellent painting standards,a fantastic centrepiece model, spectacular conversions or overalltheme may make up your mind. Eachvote you receive counts as one pointtowards your GT score – this meansyou can receive a maximum of fivepoints for Favourite Game and fivepoints for Favourite Army. Everyplayer must use their four votes, asthey are integral to the event. If youdon’t vote, then you don’t rank!GT Score ExampleAt the end of Heat 1, Elliot has won four games andlost one game, earning a GT score so far of 40. Hethen receives three Favourite Game votes and twoFavourite Army votes, which are added to the 40points he scored from his games for a total GT scoreof 45.For example, John and Edd both achievea GT score of 33, so we go to tiebreakersto establish who has the higher rank.Firstly, John and Edd have both achieved5800 points of enemy units destroyed, therefore they are still of the same rank.Moving on to the next tiebreaker, we findJohn has achieved seven secondary victoryconditions, whilst Edd has achieved five.John would therefore finish above Edd in thefinal rankings. Total Linebreaker victory conditionsachieved Total First Strike victory conditionsachieved5

PAINTING COMPETITIONSDuring the GT we will hold two paintingcompetitions. These competitions areseparate from the GT score system, sohave no bearing on the overall rankings. They are there to celebrate hobbyistswho have gone the extra mile in theirmodelling and painting to createsomething truly remarkable. You areeligible to enter each category once. Toenter, you must have done the buildingand painting yourself and the modelsmust be from the army you are using inthe event. H ero of Legend includes anyone model that doesn’t have theVehicle or Monster keyword. Company of Legend includes anyunit of two-to-five models, or twoto-three models on larger bases. Icon of Legend includes any modelwith the Vehicle or Monsterkeyword, or any model that doesn’tfit into the above categories. The first is the Legends paintingcompetition. This is perfect for themodels in your army that you aremost proud of. Entry is open toanyone taking part in the event, andthe winners are determined by playervote. The winning model(s) from eachcategory will win a Legend award. Thecategories are as follows:CODE OF CONDUCT ANDSUDDEN DEATHAt Games Workshop, we place great emphasis onplaying excellent games of Warhammer 40,000with like-minded people. Therefore we expectplayers to play each game with a certain code ofconduct to support this. When you arrive at your table for a game, greet your opponent, introduce yourself, offerthem a copy of your army roster and start thegame promptly. We then expect players totreat each other positively, demonstrate goodsportsmanship and play the game in a timelymanner. After all, part of your GT score is basedon doing just this! With regards to the first point under SuddenDeath (page 215 of the Warhammer 40,000rulebook), we expect all players to see the gamethrough to the very end and not concede, asdoing so can impact tiebreakers and, ultimately, the final rankings. In the unlikely event that aplayer does concede before the game has reachedits natural conclusion, then the conceding player6earns a loss, no extra victory conditions (e.g.Slay the Warlord), and zero points for enemyunits destroyed. The winning player recordsa crushing victory – which counts as a win andmaximum extra victory conditions achieved! Thus the winner would record tenpoints for their GT score, and alsorecord Slay The Warlord,Linebreaker, First Strike and1,750 points for ‘enemy unitsdestroyed’.The second competition is for the BestArmy. This is a prestigious award forhobbyists who take the time and putin the effort to achieve a truly excellentstandard of modelling and paintingconsistently across their whole army. The Events Team will nominate ashortlist of armies, and then thewinner will be determined by playervote. Your events card will containspaces to record your votes for eachcategory and competition. The Events Team may specifyadditional requirements during theevent for any unusual or particularlylarge entries. If you have any queriesregarding these competitions, feel freeto contact us before the event.
