Aug 2019Page 6The NuggetCHALICE REPORTAugust 2019We had a near miss this month. Maybe a near hit. None of our members were selected to join thesaints in Heaven but your’s truly came close to being added to that number. Fortunately, I hadbeen paying a bit of attention to my body and noticed not all systems were responding in normalfashion. This awareness prompted an appointment with my doctor on 1 July. The results of an electrocardiogram prompted him to send me to the nearest ER. The next day I experienced the joy of a quadruple heart bypass surgery. Recovery seems to be progressing without complications. So, you did not lose me but we did lose the presence of Fr.Augustine. A poor trade. As of now he is back in Kenya. Here is anexcerpt from his most recent letter to me.“Am now very busy with a lot of work after a long holiday. Don't forgetto greet my brother knights and pass my heart felt regards for theirwarm welcome and the love the showed me during my visit. Tell themI am back home preparing good structures for the cows they gaveme. I received a letter welcoming me to the membership of theknights from the headquarters Connecticut, no one can now doubt mymembership.”And I know of no one who met this man who does not believe he is a“Holy Man”. This is why so many, upon meeting him and learning that ten cows would cause hisparish to be self-supporting, agreed to purchase him a cow. He is preparing for their acquisition ata cost of circa 1400.00 apiece. Presently, we have funds committed for some eight cows.If you wish to participate in helping this man spread the “Good News” to people living in arduouscircumstances it is easy. Make a check payable to Mother Lode Assembly #2778.” Mail the checkto Knights of Columbus P O Box 9079, Auburn, CA 95604. Make a note on the check it is for Fr.Augustine. You can enjoy the warm feeling and tax deduction and we will get the money to Fr.Augustine.If you have any questions, contact me directly at ron7120@hotmail.com or 530-883-7120.Peace and Love,SK Ron RousseyChalice Chairman.Fr. Augustine has aDREAM—10 milk cowsto be self-supporting.6Another DREAMA Quality Breeding Cow.

August 2019The NuggetPage 10Editor’s Note. Sir Knights: We apologize for the inappropriate language promoting abortion choice on theNew Member Welcoming Dinner page in the previous release of the Nugget, AUGUST (Black) that can beconstrued that the Mother Load Assembly 2778 and the Knights of Columbus in general are Pro-Choice.Please forgive this editing error. Nothing can be farther from the truth. The Knights of Columbus and theMother Lode Assembly 2778 are and have always been Pro-Life, opposing Abortion and, now Infanticide. byactive participation in the National Walk for Life and the West Coast Walk for Life, the Spring and Fall 40Days for Life, and praying the Pro-Life Rosary before the Knights Masses. The Knights of Columbus statement on the Culture of Life from the Supreme ily/culture-of-life.html:“Human life is sacred and inviolable at every moment of existence, including the initial phase which precedesbirth. All human beings, from their mother’s womb, belong to God who searches them and knows them, whoforms them and knits them together with his own hands, who gazes on them when they are tiny shapelessembryos and already sees in them the adults of tomorrow whose days are numbered and whose vocation iseven now written in the ‘book of life.’ There too, when they are still in their mothers’ womb—as many passage Finish s of the Bible bear witness—they are the personal objects of God’s loving and fatherly providence.” (Pope Paul VI, Evangelium Vitae, 61).In his 1995 Encyclical, Evangelium Vitae, St. John Paul II called on all Catholic faithful to bear witness to the Gospel of Life and to build the “civilization of life and love” (100). In keeping with thismission and our Order’s Catholic principles of charity, unity, and fraternity, the Knights of Columbusstands strong in its conviction that every human life is a gift of God, endowed with certain inalienable rights — the first among these being the right to life. Even in the midst of difficulties and uncertainties, we believe that human life is sacred and inviolable, and ought to be defended with maximumdetermination. To this end, the Knights of Columbus supports policies that promote a Culture of Lifeand opposes legislative efforts that promote abortion, contraception, sterilization, cloning, the destruction of embryos, assisted suicide, euth
