Page 2Everyday StewardshipIt will take too long. I can't spare it. I don't know anybody. I amjust too busy. How many excuses can you think of to put forth as reasons whyyou should say no to the call of Jesus Christ? Wait. You didn'tknow to whom those responses were directed? We say no tomany things and many people, but we wouldn't say no to Jesus.Really?During this Lenten season, like all the other seasons, we will beasked to respond in many different ways. There will be fas ng,almsgiving, and abs nence from certain foods. There will be invita ons to various devo ons and forma onal studies. We will beasked to reflect on our faith and then dive deeper. The argument will be made by some that many of these things arebeing asked of us by others and not Jesus. Of course, that will justbe another excuse like those above. For every calling upon uscomes with a tempta on to take the easy way out or to minimizethe value of the request. We will stay caught up in an endless cycle of excuses that lead usnowhere. That is unless we simply choose to stop the madnessand say YES! This Lent, give up and give in. Let God take over asyou surrender all you are and have to Him. Now is the me to turnto Jesus. No more excuses.LIVE THE LITURGY INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEKTempta on is a part of our lives. Even Jesus wrestled withtempta on. Our faith tells us that we are meant to live ourlives in service of God's kingdom. Yet, we o"en find ourselvespursuing our own desires rather than God's. The Gospel clearlytells us that true power is found in the embrace of virtue - living lives of non-violence, mercy, and forgiveness. Yet, we s llare not convinced and seek things that will hurt us and retaliate against those who harm us. When Jesus faced tempta on,he found security in who he was, which firmly rooted him in hismission and gave him the determina on to trust in God. We,too, must learn to find security in our iden ty as a son ordaughter of God, to live out our mission rooted in that truth, and to be confident in God's abiding presence.CATHOLIC QUOTES - WORDS TO INSPIRE THE FAITHFUL"You are a pilgrim in this life on a journeyhome."-St. Teresa of Calcu%aThe Catholic Service and-Tracy Earl Welliver, MTSMinistry Appeal Needs You!March 10, 20191st Sunday of LentSt. Louise de MarillacGod calls us in every stage of life. This week is the feast of Louise deMarillac. As a young girl, she felt called to the religious life. However, she received advice to marry instead. Her husband died 12years into their marriage. In the wake of her husband's death, shemet St. Vincent de Paul. She was greatly inspired by his work withthe poor, and he became her spiritual director. She began a training center out of her own home to train other young woman toserve the poor and sick. This became the Sisters of Charity. Thereligious order began to grow, as slowly more sisters joined to workin hospitals and orphanages across France. The Sisters of Charitynow serve worldwide. When your life takes an unexpected turn, consider where God might be calling you!March 21st at 6:30Blessed to receive, chosen to give. This is commitment weekend for The Catholic Service and Ministry Appeal and we encourage you tosupport this diocesan-wide appeal which supports15 ministries and programs that serve thousands ofpeople every day throughout our Belleville Diocese.
