Ministers’ messageNSW is globally recognised for its innovative use of transporttechnologies, which have improved the lives of people across theState. From COVID Safe travel notifications to our contactless publictransport ticketing, we have been at the forefront of meeting the needsof passenger and freight customers, creating better communities,enhancing customer experience and unlocking economic opportunity.We have achieved this level of success by workingclosely with partners – an approach we willstrengthen and expand. By working collaborativelywith local and international businesses, technologyproviders, communities, research partners, councilsand other jurisdictions, we all benefit by leveragingexpertise and sharing success.By utilising these lessons and prioritising theadvancement of transport in NSW, we are wellpositioned to undertake this uplift – whichleverages internationally recognised capabilitiesand experience, rich and open data sets andintelligent systems using the latest analytics tobetter manage transport networks and services.Our Future Transport Technology Roadmap2021-2024 reveals a major uplift in the NSWGovernment’s ambition to strengthen our globalleadership in transport innovation and to createnew uses of technology and data analytics for thesafe and efficient movement of passengers andfreight. Significantly, this Roadmap’s foundationsare built on the important lessons we have learntsince the release of our first Roadmap in 2016. Itis pleasing to reflect on how far we have comesince then and to contemplate the opportunity andbenefits that lie ahead.This Roadmap is part of our commitment toelevate technology solutions alongside the buildingof transport infrastructure and the delivering ofservices to improve customer experience.The Hon. We are rapidly adapting our servicesand leveraging new technologies and data analytics totransition to transport of the future, and accelerate thebenefits across our passenger transport and freight networks.from a major uplift with more data, analyticsand new vehicle technologies. And this willall be underpinned by intelligent systems thatuse rich real-time data from smart sensors.We do this to serve our passengers andfreight industry customers better, acrossGreater Sydney and regional and outermetropolitan NSW. As an organisation, ourfocus is across four transport outcomes:connecting our customers’ whole lives;creating successful places for communities;enabling economic activity; and developingthriving people doing meaningful work.Future Transport Technology Roadmap 2021–2024Transport for NSWTransport for NSW is in a period of immensetransition and technological change. Weare rapidly adapting our services andleveraging new technologies and dataanalytics to transition to transport of thefuture, and accelerate the benefits across ourpassenger transport and freight networks.Part of this work includes accelerating progresson the most significant transformation indecades - with the emergence of electric,connected and automated vehicles - andupgrades to the road network system tosupport them. We’re running trials of driverlessvehicles across NSW, and working towardsnet zero emissions by transitioning to zeroemissions electric buses, rolling out morecharging points for electric vehicles andinvestigating greener sources of energy.Customers will have more options to personalisetheir journeys, and to use real-time data tomake informed decisions about when andhow to travel. Customers will have a moreconnected and seamless end-to-end journey,with more options for how they plan, book andpay for travel. Freight productivity will benefitSuccessful partnerships are at the core of ourvision. We want to build on our successfultrack record of partnerships with industryat all stages – in early stage pilots, proofs ofconcept and scaled-up service procurement.We are also investing in our teams’ skills andcapabilities and our technology innovationagenda offers exciting and fulfilling careers.In 2016, we co-designed our first TechnologyRoadmap, now we’re refreshing our visionand expanding our ambitions. The TransportTechnology Roadmap 2021–2024 is a majorstrategy and aligns with Future Transport2056 and Transport’s 10 Year Blueprintand Strategy on a page 2020-24.By leveraging each other’s strengths, weare reinforcing NSW as a global transporttechnology leader in creating world-classmobility solutions for the people andcommunities of NSW. 61.SummaryFuture Transport Technology Roadmap 2021-2024 is NSW’sheadline customer-focused transport technology strategy.It showcases Transport for NSW’s ambitions, our strong trackrecord, our technology toolkit and our six priority programsto transform and deliver a world-class customer experience.NSW’s first Technology Roadmap wasreleased in 2016 and since then, we havesuccessfully delivered many award winningprojects that have provided a significantlyimproved customer experience.We have developed this new TechnologyRoadmap to share our priorities and toreflect our stronger ambitions to leveragenew technology innovations and Transportfor NSW’s new operating model to benefitcustomers in Greater Sydney, regional and outermetropolitan areas, and in the freight industry.Future Transport Technology Roadmap 2021-2024Transport for NSWThis Roadmap demonstrates how Transport’stechnology capabilities work together todeliver integrated solutions that align withits long-term outcomes for the peopleof NSW. We will measureour success against transport outcomesand track progress in delivery, withprojects mapped and updated online.Partnerships are critical to success.
