The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ1

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus ChristTHE WONDERFUL, POWERFULGOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST!These Attributes of the Gospel WereInspired by the Holy Spirit, Penned by .Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God. (Romans 1:1)For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel:not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should bemade of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to themthat perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is thepower of God. (I Corinthians 1:17-18)But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: Inwhom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of themwhich believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel ofChrist, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.(II Corinthians 4:3-4)For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is thepower of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;(Romans 1:15-16). By the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hathabolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to lightthrough the gospel: (II Timothy 1:10)How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel ofpeace, and bring glad tidings of good things! (Romans 10:15)2

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus ChristINTRODUCTIONIf you want to see the power of God truly work in yourministry to affect lives, then you must realize it is the inherentpower of the simple Gospel which brings this to pass in our age. While the Gospel is the Word of God, all the Word of God is notthe Gospel. This book will teach you how to present the simplenugget of life-changing truth which, when believed, enables Godto intervene in human affairs. The message with the power to change lives never has andnever will change. It is forever the same. Every Christian and,in particular, every minister should become proficient at sharingor preaching the simple Gospel of Jesus Christ. The contents ofthis book offer you three ways to present this truth. The firstway is the raw, pure Gospel in its simplicity . start to finish. Wehave preached this Gospel of power all over the world and havenever seen it fail to produce multitudes of salvations and healingmiracles. It is the sermon to begin and end all sermons. It is thefirst sermon every preacher should master. For believers, sharing the Gospel produces the same miraclepower one-on-one as it does on an open-air field. For preachers, the preaching of the pure Gospel will enable them to boldlydeclare to people in any nation: “We can prove Jesus is stillalive, because He will do the same miracles tonight as He didwhen He walked the Earth! If there are no miracles, then wemust be false prophets and you can chase us out of town; but ifthere are healing miracles, then you must believe on this Jesusand receive Him as your Savior!” This proclamation, followingthe preaching of the Gospel, never fails to produce a high level ofexpectation during an evangelistic crusade; and Jesus never failsto do miracles! We have never been chased out of town!In crowds of mostly unreached people, who have never heardthe Gospel even one time, the simple truth must be presentedover and over again, night after night. If you are preaching ameeting in which a healthy percentage of the people have heard5

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christthe Gospel previously, then your strategy for presenting theGospel should change. It should not have to, but those presentwho are Christians will probably not appreciate the pure Gospelfor the raw power that it is. As a result, you may becomeconcerned that you are not captivating your “audience.”For this reason, this book also contains two examples ofhow to preach the Gospel in a way that will still produce power, yet bless the Christians. These sermons still contain the fourpower-points of the Gospel: the virgin birth, Christ’s miracle lifeshowing the will of God, the shedding of His innocent blood forthe remission of sins, and the resurrection/ascension. Whetheryou present these points one-on-one or to large crowds in acrusade format, they will have the same effect.Whenever possible, before the actual body of the Gospelmessage is delivered, we share what we call “the prelude” withthe people. The reason for this is that people all over the world, regardless of their religious background, seem to be confusedabout the nature of God. They often do not know the differencebetween God and the devil. They are afraid of God and believethe difficulties they suffer have been sent into their lives aspunishment. Once told that God is love, people the world overwonder why, if God is a good God, there is so much sorrow andevil in the world. If they already believe there is a devil, they alsowonder why God made this evil creature. The prelude attemptsto answer these questions for those who are confused. After the body of the Gospel is shared, we encouragebelievers to share a miracle story from the Bible with those whoare sick, in order to build faith in their hearts to receive their ownmiracle. Please remember, the simple format and presentationof these messages are not meant to be just reading material. Theywere transcribed from sermons actually preached overseas andinterpreted by a local interpreter. Therefore, the terminology ispurposely designed for, and meant to relate to, the unsaved - notmature believers. The vocabulary and sentence structure are alsokept on a level which is simple to translate and easily understood6

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christby city-dwellers and villagers alike. Although it is hard on your“flesh” to preach so simply, you must discipline yourself to do so!You are not ministering the Gospel to impress other Christians orministers around you. You are preaching to the end that peoplemight be saved!Once in India, after we shared the pure Gospel in a citymeeting, a man walked up to us and said: “I have been going fromchurch to church, trying to find out about Jesus and Christianity, but I could never put all the pieces together. After hearing you preachtonight, I finally understand who Jesus is and what Christianity isall about.” He had finally heard the Gospel presented in its rawform, start to finish, in a manner simple enough to understand. This man was not ignorant. He was educated, but no preacherhe had ever heard had so simply told Him who Jesus is and whatHe came to do.Determine in your heart that you will do the same, just asPaul the Apostle did. God will bless you as you do, for you willsurely see the true glory of God!Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to theobtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.(II Thessalonians 2:14)7

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ8

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus ChristCHAPTER ONEThe pure, raw, unadulterated, simple, wonderful, powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ!PRELUDE TO THE GOSPELThe God we serve is the one true and living God. He putthe stars in the sky and the fish in the sea. He created all thebirds and animals, all the trees and plants and every living thing. When God finished preparing the Earth, He made the first manand woman. He created them to love them and He put themin a beautiful garden. Every day, God came to walk with themand talk with them. There was no sickness and there were nodemons to torment them. Their life was beautiful, easy andpeaceful; but God had an enemy. His names are Satan, Lucifer, the devil! Lucifer had been the most beautiful angel in Heaven, but he became lifted up in pride. He wanted to be greater thanGod and worshipped as God. When he rebelled against God,God cast him out of Heaven, down to the Earth. When Satan saw this beautiful man and woman that Godcreated in His own image, he hated them. He wanted to destroythem, so he went to them and spoke with them and tricked theminto doing the one thing God had told them not to do. When theysinned by disobeying God, God was so grieved. He had createdthis man and woman to rule in the Earth and have power over allevil; but when they obeyed the devil instead of God, they gaveSatan the right to torment human beings. He brought sicknessinto the human race and demons to torment them; and everygeneration thereafter has suffered at his hand.Yet, God loved this man and woman so much that on thevery day they sinned, He made a promise. He said, “The day willcome when I will send my Son to the Earth, who will set the humanrace free from the power and works of the devil.” Two thousandyears ago, God sent an angel to the Earth to announce the timehad come for His Son, to arrive.9

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus ChristTHE GOSPELThe angel came to a young virgin named Mary. He said,“Blessed are you among women, for you shall bear in your wombthe Son of God.” Mary asked, “How can this be? I have neverknown a man!” The angel explained, “The Holy Spirit of Godshall overshadow you, Mary. You shall conceive a boy child. Youshall call His name Jesus. He shall save the people of the worldfrom their sins and destroy the work of the devil!”It happened just as the angel said. The child was born andgrew to become a man. Then, Jesus went everywhere showingpeople how much God loved them. He did this by healingtheir diseases. He opened the eyes of the blind. He made deafears to hear. He put strength into the legs of cripples, so theycould walk. He healed every form of sickness and He neverturned anyone away. He never said “NO! I will not heal you!”He healed everyone who asked Him; and His words were sopowerful that when He spoke, demons came out of those whowere possessed. Most important of all, because Jesus was God in the flesh, hecould forgive people their sins. He forgave the most evil people. He forgave prostitutes and adulterers. He forgave thieves andmurderers. He forgave drunkards and drug addicts and gavethem all power to change their lives and sin no more. Jesus didno evil, but did only good.Still, these miracles made religious leaders angry. They didnot want Jesus to be accepted among the people as the Son ofGod. So, they plotted how to kill Him. They took Him to court. They falsely accused Him and they sentenced Him to die. Theybeat His back with a whip; they plucked out the beard from Hisface and they put a crown of thorns on His head. Then, theyhung Him on a cross. They put nails through His hands and nailsthrough His feet. While He hung there, they stuck a spear in Hisside and His blood rushed forth to the ground. You may be wondering . if Jesus was truly the Son of God,10

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christhow could these men kill Him; but you see . THIS WAS THEFULFILLMENT OF THE PROMISE GOD MADE THAT DAYIN THE GARDEN! Jesus knew He was born for this purpose. He was born to die; for God had made this law: Without theshedding of innocent blood there is no remission for the sins ofmankind. Jesus knew the blood of animals was not good enoughto pay the price for the sins of human beings. He knew therewas no man alive on the Earth who was sinless, whose blood waspure enough to wash away your sins and mine. Jesus knew thatonly the sinless, pure blood of the Son of God would be acceptedas the price for our sins.Jesus never even answered His accusers and He could havecalled angels from Heaven to come and take Him off that cross;but while He hung there, He looked ahead into into the year2 (insert year) and He knew that you would be right here,in need of a Savior and a healer. He loved you so much that Hewillingly hung on that cross, gave up His life and died! His friends took His body off the cross and laid it in a tomb, which is like a cave. That is how they buried people in thosedays. He laid there dead for three days. He was as dead as anyman you have ever seen is dead, but God was about to showthe whole world that Jesus was not just a holy man, a teacher, amiracle worker, a prophet. (Some say He was a good man anda prophet, but not the Son of God; but God proved they arewrong!) After three days of laying dead, the power of the Creatorof the Universe came into the lifeless body of Jesus Christ andHe rose from the dead, stood up in that tomb and walked outalive! Halleleujah!THE GOSPEL’S CONCLUSIONAfter Jesus raised from the dead, He showed Himself tomany people, so they would believe on Him. Then, He said, “Imust go back to Heaven to be with my Father; but it is good foryou that I go away, for I shall send my Spirit to the Earth. Then,11

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christwherever you tell this Good News about Me, if the people willbelieve it and call on My name, My Spirit will come to live insideof them and they will become children of God.” When a childof God dies and their eternal spirit leaves their body, they goto Heaven to live with God. In Heaven there is peace and joyforever! However, Jesus said, “If they do not believe and will notcall on My Name, oh! . My Spirit cannot come to live within theireternal spirit and when they die, they will go to Hell: a place oftorment and pain and separation from God, from which there isno escape. For you see, we are all members of the human race, but we are not all children of God; but God loves you. He doesnot want even one of you to go to Hell. Before He returned to Heaven, Jesus also promised,“Wherever you tell the truth about Me, if the people will believeit and call upon My name, I will be there among them to do thesame miracles I did when I walked the Earth.” Now, reason withme. If what I have shared about Jesus is true, if He is really alive, then there will be miracles here tonight. If there are no miracles, you can say we are false prophets and chase us out of town; butif there are miracles, you must believe this Jesus is the only wayto God and receive Him as your Savior and Lord.(Our confidence in these statements stems from Mark16:15,20: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, andconfirming the word with signs following. Amen.” Once theGospel has been laid out, we suggest telling a miracle story fromthe Bible, to build the faith of the people for healing. Here are twoof our favorites.)THE MIRACLE STORIES(Continue to address the people.) In the Bible, there are manystories about sick people who were healed by Jesus. They werewritten in the Bible, the Holy Book of the Christian. (Hold up12

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christyour Bible when making this statement.)The LeperOne story is about a leper. When the leper saw Jesus, he ranto Him, fell at His feet and worshipped Him. He said, “Master,I know you have the power to heal me. I believe you are whoyou say you are, but will you heal ME?”The leper was not certain that Jesus would heal him becausehe was not anyone special. He had lost everything and he wasgoing to die. This leper did not know how much God loved him.Yet, he believed what he heard about Jesus. He believed Jesuswas born of a virgin. He believed Jesus was the Son of God andhe believed Jesus could heal him, if He wanted to. You may feeljust like this leper. You may believe Jesus could heal you, but youwonder if He wants to! Jesus looked at that leper and answeredhim like this: “I WILL! Be made whole!” He will answer youthe same way: “YES, I WILL HEAL YOU! Be made whole!”Get ready to worship Jesus tonight, just like that leper did.God loves you! He is ready and willing to heal your sick body.Blind BartimaeusWhile Jesus was alive on the Earth, there lived an old blindbeggar named Bartimaeus. One day, as Bartimaeus was sitting bythe roadside begging, he heard the noise of a large crowd passingby. He asked his friend nearby what the noise was about. Thefriend replied: “Jesus is passing our way.” Bartimaeus was soexcited because He had heard about Jesus. He had heard Jesuswas the Son of God and born of a virgin. He had heard thatJesus did miracles for everyone who came to Him and Bartimaeusbelieved what he heard. So, he stood to his feet and cried out,“Jesus! Have mercy on me!” . but Jesus did not stop. Bartimaeusdid not give up, though. He cried all the louder, “Jesus! Havemercy on me!13

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus ChristThis time Jesus stopped. He said to those around Him,“Bring that blind man to me.” When Bartimaeus heard Jesus saythat, he did something very special. You see, he wore a specialcoat, which signified he was blind. When people saw someonewearing this kind of coat, they would step aside and let the blindperson pass by. Bartimaeus, however, knew in his heart thatJesus would heal him and that he would not need that specialcoat anymore. He had faith in his heart! So, while Bartimaeuswas still in a world of darkness, he took off his coat and threw itaside. When they brought Bartimaeus to Jesus, Jesus asked him,“What do you want from me?” Bartimaeus replied, “Oh! That Imight receive my sight!” Jesus healed that blind man.You can be healed tonight, too. Be like Bartimeaus. Believein your heart that Jesus wants to heal you; and get ready to actyour faith the way Bartimaeus did. He threw off his special coat, even before he could see. You begin to think about what youwill be able to do when you are healed, that you cannot do now.Get ready to act your faith. After prayer, do what you could notdo before!(Other miracle stories are found in chapter two. Also, considersharing a current miracle that you have seen God do in that cityor country recently. This builds faith in the hearts of the peoplethat Jesus did not just do miracles 2,000 years ago, but He is stilldoing them today.)THE WRAP-UPOnce the Gospel has been laid out, it is time to “wrap” yourmessage. If you have used this format . of first telling the storyof Jesus, then telling a miracle story . the next thing we suggestyou do is stress, illuminate or reiterate some point or portion ofthe Gospel. All three segments — the Gospel, the miracle storyand the wrap-up — can be ministered by one person. However, this segmentation also makes it possible for two, three or fourministers to share in the delivery. One can deliver the prelude, one14

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christthe Gospel, one the miracle story from the Bible, one a currentmiracle testimony and one the wrapping conclusion. It will thenbe time to “pull in the net.” It is even possible for differentministers to make the altar call and pray the prayer of salvationwith the people. Still another can pray the healing prayer. Wesuggest that everyone who has participated in the service joinstogether on the platform for the healing prayer. This helps destroythe misconcept among the people that one man is responsible forthe healing miracles that will take place. When we preach open-air crusades, it has become our joyfultradition for one of us (most often Marilyn) to preach the Gospeland tell the miracle story. Then, the other (most often Jerry) willbring them to the point of decision for salvation and give an altarcall. If we are training another minister, we will generally begintheir experience by having them tell a miracle story. Next, theytackle preaching the Gospel. It has been our observation thateven some highly-developed preachers have difficulty preachingthe Gospel in a manner simple and organized enough for even themost uneducated villager to comprehend. However, practicingthe Gospel as it is presented here, along with a determination todo whatever is required to snatch people from Hell, will overcomethis handicap. In order to facilitate those who may not have had previousopportunities to lead people in a prayer for salvation or healing, wehave included samples of both. You can pray these prayers withconfidence that they will produce salvations and healing miracles,as long as the Gospel has been shared or preached. (Without acomprehensive understanding of who Jesus is and what He cameto do, salvation is difficult to obtain.) In open-air meetings, ashort, simple ‘wrap-up’ precedes this salvation prayer.Wrap-Up For A Predominantly15Non-Christian

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus ChristNation(The emphasized details of each wrap-up and altar callcan vary with the makeup of the crowd. This short wrap-up isparticularly useful in a country where the people are confused aboutwhich God is the true and living God.)We have come here tonight as servants of the most HighGod! We are here to declare to you that the God who createdthe world, the God who created all mankind, sent His Son toshed His blood as a sacrifice for you and for all the people of theworld. He wants you to be free from the torment of the devil! If you will believe this, God will do wonderful things for you.The most wonderful thing He will do is to send His life into yourspirit. The same life that came into the virgin Mary and createdJesus will come into you. It will come into all who believe thisstory and call upon the name of the Lord. When you do that, and His Spirit comes into you, you will become alive with thevery life and power of God.Someday all of us will die, but it is our bodies that will die.Our spirits will live forever. We must decide where our spiritswill live for eternity. God created men perfect, but when mandisobeyed God and sinned, the eternal spirit of man becameseparated from God. That is one reason why some men are soevil. The spirit of man is evil. It is dead; but when you call onthe name of the Lord tonight, the life of God will come into youand your spirit will be born-again. You will still look the same, but inside . you will be different. You will have the life of Godin you! The Bible says that when this happens, God declares thatyou have become His son or His daughter. Someday, when youdie - as all of us will - your eternal spirit will go to Heaven . andnot to Hell to be tormented of the devil. In addition to this miracle happening in your spirit, Godsaid your sick bodies will be healed. My friends, all you haveto do to receive these blessings is to believe what we have toldyou and then call on the name of the Lord Jesus with your ownvoice. You must determine to follow Him and no other god.16

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus ChristHe is the only manifestation of the true and living God who canbring you eternal life. The wonderful thing is that this blessing, and the other blessings I spoke of, are free. Jesus paid the pricefor you. He became your sacrifice. You do not have to pay forthese blessings. They are free for you to receive now. It doesnot matter whether you are the richest man or woman here orthe poorest. God will see everyone who calls on Him and Hewill know everyone who does not.God sent Jesus for YOU! He came 2,000 years ago, butthroughout every generation, those who have heard the messageand believed it have become children of God. How many of youtonight will receive these blessings by calling upon the name ofthe Lord and making Him the Master of your life? After the Wrap-Up(One of the keys to successful evangelism is knowing how topull in the net. After the wrap-up, you must begin to reason withthe people in a way that will draw them into the net and bring themto salvation. The basic principles used in the following exampleof an altar call, will work anywhere. Included in this altar call isa short wrap-up that will also work anywhere.)THE ALTAR CALLI realize that most of you have come here tonight becauseyou have heard that miracles of healing are going to take place.I realize many of you need a miracle in your body. You are sickand no one seems to be able to help you; or perhaps you aretormented by the devil and you don’t know what to do about it.If you came tonight because of the miracles, I have good newsfor you. God not only wants to heal your sick bodies, but Hewants to do much more for you!Tonight we have told you that Jesus Christ is the only Sonof the one true and living God and that He came to the Earthto show us the love God has for all mankind. It is so important17

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christthat you remember what we have told you: that Jesus died forYOU! In other words, He became your sacrifice. He shed Hisblood as payment for your sins. Now, tonight, you must makea decision. God’s instructions are very clear. He said that onceyou hear about Jesus, if you will believe the message and do whatwe tell you to do, then the life of God will come into you. Youwill become a child of God.Remember, all of you have an eternal spirit; and that spiritwill either go to Heaven or Hell when you die. Tonight, we havepreached the Gospel so you might believe the message and dowhat you need to do, to spend eternity in Heaven and not inHell.Jesus Christ is on this field, by His Spirit, and He will helpyou believe. His Spirit will come into you when you declare thatyou believe He rose from the dead. The same life of God thatcreated the whole world will come into you. The same powerthat raised the body of Jesus from the grave will come into you. When that power comes into your spirit, your spirit becomes aliveto the true and living God. You will still look the same. You willstill live in the same place and your name will still be the same, but you will be a child of God. Children of God have the life ofGod in their spirits. This means that when you die, your eternalspirit will go to Heaven and not to Hell.I had to do this, too. So did everyone on this platform. Weused to be just like you. We did not have the life of God in us.Our spirits were dead to the presence of God, but one day weheard the Gospel, just as you have. We believed the messageand then we did what we had to do. We declared with our ownmouths that we believe Jesus shed His blood as the sacrifice ofGod for our sins. We made him the Lord and Master of ourlives, with the declaration of our mouths. Then, the very lifeof God came into us. When that happened to me, I became achild of God.That is why I have come here tonight. Remember, we told18

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christyou that after Jesus rose from the dead and went back to Heavento live with God, He said: “It is good for you that I am going toHeaven, because I will send my Spirit to the Earth. Wherever youtell people this truth about me, if they will believe on Me and callon My name, My Spirit will come into them and they will becomechildren of God.”These words of Jesus from the Bible are very clear. If youbelieve what God did 2,000 years ago, when He sent His Son todie for you, you must call on His Name. How many of you heretonight believe the message you have heard? Do you believe thatJesus is the Son of God? Even here on this first night, before yousee the miracles, how many of you already believe? How manyof you believe that He shed His blood and died, then rose fromthe dead? How many of you believe that when you call upon Hisname, His life will come into you; and you will go to Heaven andnot Hell when you die? How many of you believe this message istr

The Wonderful, Powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ 9 CHAPTER ONE The pure, raw, unadulterated, simple, wonderful, powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ! PRELUDE TO THE GOSPEL The God we serve is the one true and living God. He put the stars in the sky and the fish in the sea. He created all the birds a
