LoveInT H E R ENOI SFEARIn World War II, Nazi Germanylaunched a series of air raidsagainst the city of London. Duringthose bombings the residents ofLondon would evacuate their homesand businesses and take cover indesignated underground shelters. On one particular night ofbombings, a woman was missingfrom her neighborhood shelter. A

few days later some of her neighbors saw her and asked if everything were all right.“Everything’s fine,” she replied.“Then why weren’t you in theshelter the other night?” they asked.“It’s smelly down there,” shesaid, “and I don’t like it.”“Aren’t you afraid the bombswill get you?” her friends asked.“Oh, no,” she said confidently.“I read the scripture where it saysmy God neither slumbers norsleeps. So I decided there was nouse in us both being awake. I justprayed, ‘Lord, I praise You, I thankYou and I place myself in Yourlove—and I’m not going to thatshelter anymore.’”Now there was a believer with arevelation of God’s love that allowedher to overcome fear and roll thecare of her well-being over on God.4

As it turned out, just a few dayslater, enemy aircraft came throughand bombed that neighborhood, leveling every house. Every house, that is, except the woman’s whohad chosen to remain in thecomfort of her home.and in thecomfort of God’s love. You’ll Know When It’sTrue LoveAs God’s beloved and anointedchildren, it’s amazing that we havenot taken greater advantage of ourauthority and security that lies inthe love of God, as this woman inLondon did.Instead, through our ignorance and man-made, religiousdoctrines, we’ve allowed thedevil to oppress us and keep us5

in all kinds of bondage. And allbecause of fear. You may be wondering whatpossible connection there isbetween God’s love for you andhaving no fear. That connection isfound in 1 John 4:Whosoever shall confess thatJesus is the Son of God, Goddwelleth in him, and he inGod. And we have known andbelieved the love that Godhath to us. God is love; andhe that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment:because as he is, so are we inthis world. There is no fear inlove; but perfect love castethout fear. (verses 15-18).6

God is Love. And in Love, there is no fear. Not an ounce. What’s more, that love—whichleaves no room for fear—dwellsin us. So neithershould there be anyGod is Love.fear in us. AfterAnd in Love, all, we’ve not beenthere is nogiven a spirit offear, “but of power, fear. Not anand of love.”ounce.(2 Timothy 1:7).For fear to enterthe heart of a believer, it mustcome from the outside, from thefear-infested world in which welive. And that’s where knowing andbelieving the love of God comesinto play for us.Just moments before Jesus wentto the cross, He prayed specificallyfor us:7

That they may be madeperfect in one; and that theworld may know that thouhast sent me, and hast lovedthem, as thou hast lovedme. And I have declaredunto them thy name, andwill declare it: that the lovewherewith thou hast lovedme may be in them, and I inthem ( John 17:23, 26).The reason Jesus gave up Hisplace in glory, came to earth, tookon the limitations of human flesh, then went to the cross and suffered and died, was so He couldmake that transaction: “that thelove wherewith You [God] lovedMe [Jesus] may be in them [us].”God loves us with the samelove with which He loves Jesus. And if He loves us to that degree, then He will certainly protect us to8

that degree. But we have to knowand believe His love. You knew the love of God themoment you were born again. Itwas, in fact, love that re-createdyou. It was love that delivered youfrom the power of darkness, andtranslated you into the kingdomof His dear Son or “the Son of Hislove” as it is literally translated(Colossians 1:13).But how well do you knowthat love?“Well, I know God loves me,Brother Copeland. But I wouldn’tgo so far as to say He loves mejust like He loves Jesus.”Then you’re not walking in Hislove by faith. You’re falling backon what your flesh—and probablythe devil—is telling you.The times you don’t feel God’spresence or feel God’s love, those9

are the very times you had betterbelieve He’s there and believe Hislove for you. Otherwise, your fleshwill let you down. Your mind will letyou down. And Satan will use everything he can to pressure and pushyou away from the love of God.I don’t care how “spirituallydry” you might feel. That doesn’tchange a thing. The Word says thesame thing today as it said yesterday. And it says, “In the beginningwas the Word, and the Word waswith God, and the Word was God”(John 1:1).The Word is God. And God isLove. So the Word is Love.Get up every day determinedto let only the Word—Love—tellyou what you feel—not your flesh, not your circumstances and certainly not the devil. Listen to Lovetell you, “I will never leave thee,10

nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).Remember, when we haveknown and believed the love ofGod, “Herein is our love madeperfect ” (1 John 4:17).The Perfect Love StoryAnother aspect of our lovebeing perfected is found in 1 John2:4-5: “He that saith, I know him [Iknow God, I know Jesus, I knowLove], and keepeth not his [God’s]commandments, is a liar, and thetruth is not in him. But whosokeepeth his [God’s] word, in himverily is the love of God perfected.”When you keep God’s Word, you allow the love of God torun its full course in your life. You reach that place of allowingGod to do on the inside of you11

what He had in mind when Hecreated Adam. It’s what He wasin Jesus. And that’s exactly whatHe plans to be in you.But notice that the key tobeing perfected in God’s love istied to keeping His commandments—His Word. First John 3:23says: “And this is his commandment, That we should believe onthe name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gaveus commandment.”This verse refers to the commandment Jesus gave to His disciples: “A new commandment Igive unto you, That ye love oneanother; as I have loved you.”(John 13:34).Love one another as I haveloved you.“We can’t do that, Jesus!”Of course we can’t. That’s why12

1 John 3:23 precedes the commandment to love with “Believe on thename of his Son Jesus Christ .”Then we can love one another. That changes the complexion ofthis thing. It takeslove out of the emoIf Jesustional realm andcommandedputs it in the spiritus to love, ual realm. In otherthen somehowwords, it’s going toHe must havetake believing onthe Name of Jesusequipped usthe Anointed One toto do it.be able to love oneanother the way Hedid. It’s going to take faith. Also realize from these twopassages that we’re talking abouta commandment from Jesus. IfHe commanded us to love, thensomehow He must have equippedus to do it.13

Besides, Jesus doesn’t love uswith some human form of love. Heloves us with the love of God—and that’s not just any love.Throughout His earthly ministry,Jesus used a Greek word for lovethat was as uncommon as He was. It’s the word we know as agape. The people of Jesus’ daydidn’t really understand that wordbecause it was not used in conversation, but primarily in classicwritings and so forth. We find agape used in thewritings of the Apostle Paul, particularly in that great passage onlove, 1 Corinthians 13. But eventhe English translators translatedlove as “charity,” which is closer tothe true meaning because charityis more than just love.Charity is actually a love thathas a driving desire to give. So14

agape, as used by Jesus, is morethan just loving one another. It isloving one another to the point thatyou are willing to give yourself.“I Do.”In John 21:15-17, Jesus askedPeter three times, “Do you loveMe?” or “Do you agape Me?” Peterhad to answer three times beforehe got it right because he wastrying to answer Jesus in the language of the day. He just didn’tunderstand what Jesus was asking.Agape is the key to the command to love. It’s the key to lovingas Jesus loved. To get the love of God—theagape kind of love—over to mankind, Jesus entered into a bloodcovenant with God. With the15

sacrifice of His own blood, Jesussaid, “I agape!”To agape is an act of the will.It is a spoken covenant from whichthere is no retreat, and aboutwhich there is no debate. So you can getin it and receive itJesus usedby partaking of HisHis will tocovenant, or you canlove. Andstay on the outside ofyou must use it and go straight toyour will to hell. Either way, Godwill love you all thereceive.way there becausethe covenant hasbeen made. He said, I love! And thatwas that.Jesus used His will to love. Andyou must use your will to receive. But without the help of God,we don’t have the natural abilityto love unconditionally. And He16

doesn’t expect us to keep the commandment to love by our flesh—our natural man. That’s where theold covenant was a problem. Thechildren of Israel demonstratedjust how weak this flesh really is.Today, however, we have theblood of Jesus, His Name that isabove every name and the Spirit ofAlmighty God dwelling inside us.That’s Love Himself living in us.All we have to do is make the decision to keep the commandment.God will take care of the rest. But if we don’t commit to thecommandment to love, we face theconsequences in 1 John 2:10-11:“He that loveth his brother abidethin the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But hethat hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, andknoweth not whither he goeth,17

because that darkness hath blindedhis eyes.”Come Out of the DarkPure and simple.hate is strife. But our idea of hate is that surgeof emotion—rage—just before youdecide whether or not to do seriousdamage to someone because you’reangry with them. But, not so.When Adam was changed fromlife to death, his faith turned intofear. And the love of God insidehim turned into hate because hewas now connected to Satan.Yes, there are different degreesof hate, but it’s all still hate. Andthe slightest bit of it is just asmean and dangerous as the highest degree of it.You may not be out to kill18

someone, but you’re killing yourself.Because that’s what hate will do. Itwill not only ruin your day, but itwill age you and ultimately kill you.I’m talking about all those littlehateful things someone might think, say or do, all day long, never realizing what’s actually happening. It’sthat strife that builds and builds—all day long, all week long, yourwhole life long. That’s where you need torepent and deal with those thingsthe moment they pop up. Don’teven allow the smallest grain ofhate—or strife—to remain in yourspirit. Because, keep in mind,we’re dealing with fear here. We’redealing with the spiritual connection to death (Hebrews 2:14-15).So walking around with hatredin your heart toward your brotheris not going to perfect the love19

of God in your life—the love thatcasts out all fear. No, 1 John 2:11 says strife willthrow you out in the dark. And what’s out in the dark? Fear. The moment fear presentsitself to you in any shape or form, realize that you don’t have a fearproblem. Your problem is in fulfilling the commandment to loveas Jesus loved.Maybe you shot your mouthoff at someone when you shouldn’thave. Or you are holding on tosomething someone said or didthat hurt you, and have not forgiven them—or have refused toforgive them. The point is, get before Godand judge yourself. Ask Him toreveal the problem and take thetime to deal with it immediately. Then commit to the love walk.20

That means loving the person youhave problems with—oftentimes,by faith. As you do, the love of Godwill be perfected in you. And allfear will be cast out. Then it won’tbe long until you’ll be falling inlove the love that never leavesyou, nor forsakes you the lovethat casts out all fear and neverleaves you in the dark. It’s the lovethat never fails.21

Prayer for Salvation andBaptism in the Holy SpiritHeavenly Father, I come to You in the Nameof Jesus. Your Word says, “Whosoever shall call onthe name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21).I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to comeinto my heart and be Lord over my life accordingto Romans 10:9-10: “If thou shalt confess withthy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe inthine heart that God hath raised him from thedead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart manbelieveth unto righteousness; and with the mouthconfession is made unto salvation.” I do that now.I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in myheart that God raised Him from the dead.I am now reborn! I am a Christian—a childof Almighty God! I am saved! You also said inYour Word, “If ye then, being evil, know howto give good gifts unto your children: HOWMUCH MORE shall your heavenly Fathergive the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”(Luke 11:13). translated you into the kingdom of His dear Son or “the Son of His love” as it is literally translated (Colossians 1:13). But how well do you know that love? “Well, I know God loves me, Brother Copeland. But I wouldn’t go so far as to say He loves me just like He loves Jesus.” Then you
