Applied ResearchOur students are given the opportunity to work on applied research projects with our faculty,healthcare, and government organisations, to benefit the wider community. Such projects canalso involve students and faculty members from multiple disciplines and address either clinical,professional, or community problems that require holistic solutions.Design Solutions for SpecialNeeds Classrooms and Furniturein SingaporeAn SIT team from the Health and SocialSciences, Engineering, and Business,Communication and Design clusters, workedwith a social service agency to designappropriate seating that provides stabilityand manoeuvrability in the classroom forchildren with developmental disabilities. Thiswill improve the engagement and learning ofchildren with special needs in Singapore.Virtual Reality Mobility Training(VRMT)A team of Physiotherapy students arecollaborating with our Engineering andInfocomm Technology students and facultymembers, as well as Ng Teng Fong GeneralHospital to design a Virtual Reality MobilityTraining (VRMT) system. Enhancing Vocational Ability ofPatients Through AugmentedReality GamesOur Occupational Therapy and InfocommTechnology faculty members have teamed upwith Bizlink Centre Singapore Ltd to developa gamified vocational rehabilitation platformusing augmented reality (AR) for persons withcognitive problems. This will enable them toimprove their vocational skills and undergotraining in a fun and safe environment.Teaming Up to Study theEffectiveness of Running SandalsA team of final-year Physiotherapy studentswere part of a multidisciplinary collaborationwith some engineering students and facultymembers to study lower limb muscle activitiesusing running sandals. The data collectedcould help allied health practitioners, especiallyphysiotherapists, understand the risks andpotential muscle strain runners could face whenrunning using this minimalist footwear.Encouraging Seniors’ Use ofDigital ToolsIn collaboration with Tsao Foundation’sCommunity for Successful Ageing, ourNursing students and faculty members haveproduced video clips to guide seniors inusing Zoom.
