6LESSON NO.1JESUS, THE FRIEND OF SINNERSFrom the very beginning men chose to disobey God’s laws. Some even foolishly denyGod’s existence. Man was given a choice to obey or disobey God. But he chose todisobey and break a close spiritual friendship with Him. Man is a sinner in need ofsalvation. The apostle Paul states that all men are sinners. Jesus taught that the evil wouldface eternal punishment while the righteous would receive eternal life. God could haveleft us to receive punishment for our own sins, but He loves us very much and wants us tobe His friends forever. So He provided for us a way of salvation. Jesus became the onemediator between God and men.1 ‘Jesus is The Friend of Sinners.’ Jesus is the Saviour ofthe world. ‘Salvation’ means that man is saved, set free or rescued from his own sins. It isbeing saved from hell or eternal punishment and being brought into friendship with Godso that you may enter heaven and live forever with Him.God does not like to see man lost in his sins. Because He loves us very much He forgivesus our sins and pours out His mercy and grace richly upon us. 2 Mercy is: ‘we do not getwhat we deserve,’ - we are not punished for our sins. Grace is: ‘we get what we don’tdeserve,’ – we get salvation, which is God’s love in action. No one can boast that he orshe is good enough to go to heaven. Each person must exercise his or her own faith toreceive salvation.Some expect to receive salvation by following a religion, creed while others believe thatit comes through being a Church member. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone 3 andcan be received only through faith in Him – that He died on the Cross-for us and that Heis the One whom God sent to be our Saviour. In this aspect no one can do what Christdid. To receive Jesus means to open our hearts to Him and follow Him in all we say anddo. This is faith in action.John was a Jew. And in the Jewish way of thinking, to know someone by name meant tohave a personal relationship with him. In the same way Jesus must be your personalfriend not a mere acquaintance or someone you believed in through history books. Somebelieve that there are many pathways to God and that Christ is just one of them. Some saythere is no God. 4 But that is not true. God has declared that Jesus is the only way ofsalvation, the path to eternal life. Beliefs in any other person or system for salvation areman-made inventions. Jesus gave people the power or right to become children of Godwhen they ‘received Him’ and ‘believed in His name.’ To be saved by faith in Jesusmeans to receive Him into our hearts, to know Him in a personal way and to follow andserve Him. This is God’s way of salvation. Jesus said that all those who truly love andfollow Him would experience Him and that God would come and dwell in their hearts.11Tim2: 5-6; 2 Titus3: 5;31Jn5: 12; Jn3: 36;4Ps14: 1

7Blessings flow through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which includes heaven,a place without sin and suffering, your heavenly home with God forever. Jesus is yourfriend, provider, help in times of trouble and much more. All this awaits you because youmade the decision to follow Jesus. He has provided for you the way of salvation. Do whatHe says. God knows you by name and sees you as a person of great value.God loves you so much that He was willing to send His only Son to suffer and die in yourplace so that you might be united with Him and live with Him forever in heaven. Hislove for you will never end.MEMORIZE: Jn3: 16;1.2.3.4.Who does Paul say Jesus is? 8LESSON NO.2GOD’S ONLY BEGOTTEN SONJesus was the Son of God before He came to earth, while He was on earth and Heremains God’s Son forever. John tells us that when a person confesses that Jesus is theSon of God, that God dwells in him. For a person to receive Jesus as Saviour, he mustbelieve that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus did not have an earthly father but wasmiraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit. 1 God lived on this earth only, in the physicalbody of Jesus the Son of God. This is shown to us by His title, ‘Emmanuel’ which means‘God is with us.’2 Each of the four gospels, John the Baptist, Paul the Apostle, and eventhe Roman soldier in charge of the crucifixion of Jesus state that Jesus is the Son of God.Just like God has always existed and always will, so is Jesus, God’s only begotten Son. Itis through Jesus that God speaks to man. Jesus is God’s Word for man. He is also Creatorof the Universe. To know God, man must first receive Jesus Christ as his Saviour.Jesus was in every way human while He was on earth just like we are, except for sin.Although He was and always is God, He came to earth, became flesh and blood in ourphysical world of sin and suffering and willingly offered Himself as a sacrifice for thesins of men. Jesus understands us very well since He Himself experienced temptation,suffering and death 3 in a human way. He is now able to help us in our sufferings, trialsand temptations.4 He knows the agony of physical and mental pain. Since Jesus washuman as we are, we can approach Him in prayer, assured of His mercy, grace,compassion, love and understanding. He will minister to us from the abundance of Hislove.We are all sinners cut off from God and heavenly blessings. Jesus redeemed us from oursins by pouring out His Blood on the Cross-to bring us into friendship with God. BecauseHis Blood has forgiven our sins we can stand before God not guilty. There is nothingmore costly than the sacrifice of blood. The blood sustains the lives of animals andhumans. God made a covenant, with man long ago, which required shedding of the bloodof animals5 as atonement for the sins of men. God said that if man wanted his brokenfellowship, friendship with Him restored, he would have to make a very costly sacrifice –i.e. sacrifice, his animals, his most prized possession, the means of his existence - an OldTestament practice. However man still chose to ignore God. Despite this God in Hisinfinite love and mercy sent His dear Son, Jesus to be the supreme one and only bloodsacrifice for the sins of men.God verified Jesus’ claim to be His Son. Each of the gospels preaches the resurrection.The Apostles also preached it. His disciples were filled with hope when they saw Jesusagain and were convinced that He was the Son of God. They proclaimed the good newsopenly that Jesus had risen from the dead, calling men and women to repent and believe1Mt1: 20;2Mt1: 23;3Heb4: 15;4Heb2: 18;5Heb9: 22

9in Jesus Christ. God tells us that we shall also be raised from the dead to live forever withHim.MEMORIZE: Jn1: 1ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS1 Who did the Apostle Peter say Jesus was? 10LESSON NO.3ABUNDANT LIFEGod loves you so much 1 that He was willing to send His only Son to suffer and die inyour place so that you might be united to Him and live forever in heaven. Will a manever die for another who is not worthy of it? Yet Christ died in your place. It was notbecause you loved God that He sent Jesus, but because He loved you. Even though yousin and are not perfect, there is no way in which you can be separated from His love. 2God knows all about you because He loves you. He knows you by name and considersyou a person of great value.It is impossible to live a life for God on your own strength. You need His help. Paul sayshe trusted and depended on Christ who lived within him to be his guide, strength andhelp. You too must by faith trust Jesus Christ who by His very presence in your life hasmade a new person out of you. Jesus is your new nature.A non-Christian has little power over sin. He only has the capacity to receive Christ.Once Jesus Christ is in a person’s life he can win the battle over sin and the devil. Nowthe devil will try to tempt you but he cannot come against your free will to serve God as aChristian. You belong to God and through Jesus living in you Who is greater than Satan;you can overcome Satan and his workers – the evil spirits. 3 The Key to overcome sin isto surrender yourself daily to God, trusting Jesus who lives in you.Jesus came that we might have abundant life 4 on earth and eternal life that continues inheaven. As you let Jesus have more and more control over your life, you will find the‘fruit of the Spirit’ growing in you. Paul prays that even as his Christian friends havegrown mature, God will keep them in good health and that everything will go well withthem and that hey will be successful. God loves us and because He does, He wants to seenot only that we are saved but are blessed in every way and this happens as we get toknow Jesus more and more.MEMORIZE: Ga2: 20TRUE or FALSE123451The fact of God’s love is demonstrated in Jesus Christ.God loves us because we first loved Him.There is rejoicing in heaven when God punishes sinners.God is concerned with some of our problems. He feels we can handle the rest.The new nature we have as Christians is Jesus Christ living within us.Jn3: 16; 2 Rom8: 35;31Jn4: 4;4Jn10: 10

11678910Apostle Paul always looked to human resources for strength and help.A Christian has power over the devil because Jesus lives within him.The secret of overcoming sin is to surrender your life to God daily.When Jesus has control over our lives it is easier to have love & joy.God wants to bless our lives in every way just because He loves us.WRITE OUT THE SCRIPTURE[11] Jn3: 16 [12] 2Cor5: 17[13] 1Jn4: 4FILL IN THE BLANKS14.Sin shall not be your -------- because you are not under the --------- but under ----[Rom6: 14]FIND THE SCRIPTURE15.“This is love; not that we loved God, but He loved us and sent His Son as anatoning sacrifice, for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also oughtto love one another.”

12LESSON NO.4BORN AGAINJesus said that a man must be born again to see the Kingdom of God. 1 The new birth isnecessary, to be saved and to come into a right relationship with God. ‘New Birth’ is noteducation, culture, reading the Bible, observing religious duties, doing good woks, sayingprayers, doing your best etc. Many feel that by doing these things they will go to Heaven.But this is false.NEW BIRTH IS repenting of one’s sins, turning to God and receiving Jesus Christ asSaviour and Lord. Nicodemus had most of the qualities mentioned above, yet Jesus said,“You must be born-again.” The Thief on the Cross and others Jesus forgave, were savedwithout the above, simply because they did one necessary thing – they accepted JesusChrist as their personal Saviour and Lord, by repenting and turning to God with all theirheart.One who is truly born-again will automatically have the external evidence of a good life. 2A rotten apple beautifully wax-coated on the outside is still rotten at the core. Apart fromJesus Christ, man is only an outward show, rotten in heart. The trouble then is in the heartor spirit of man. Man is a spiritual being. The ‘new birth’ is when the human spirit isborn-again. Adam was separated from God because of sin [spiritual death]. Sin created abarrier between God and man. Adam now had a new master, Satan. And this hascontinued with all mankind. Man cannot be saved by good conduct. He cannot stand inthe presence of God because he has the nature of the evil one. He is lost today notbecause of what he does, but because of who he is. He is spiritually dead. He is by naturea sinner and therefore he sins. He needs life from God. He can be saved, only by beingborn-again. Because he is a spirit being, he can be reborn and his nature can be changed. 3He can become a new creature in Christ.Jesus Christ did not have the spiritual nature of death [the devil’s nature]. Yet he tasteddeath4 for every man. He took on Himself our sin nature, the nature of spiritual death, putaway sin by sacrificing Himself, paid the penalty for our sins and gave us eternal life[God’s nature]. Jesus came to redeem us from spiritual death.The ‘new birth’ is not gradual but instant. It is a gift of God. We receive it the momentwe believe. When you truly repent and turn to God, receiving Jesus as your Saviour andLord, God’s Spirit and God’s Word work in you and your spirit is completely changed.You become a new creation. Eternal life is a free gift received by faith. When a manbelieves that God’s Word declares him a sinner that Christ died to save him from all sin,and he confesses his sins, repents wholeheartedly believing the gospel, the Holy Spirit1Jn3: 3; 2 1Jn3: 9; 3 2Cor5: 17; 4 Heb2: 9

13will then transform his life by the power of God’s Word and by the Blood of Jesus. Atthat very moment he will have the assurance of being born-again.If you have never been born again, what you need to do is to take the following steps toreceive the free gift of eternal life:1.2.3.4.Recognize you are a sinner lost without God and without hope.Admit that Jesus Christ died on the Cross-to save you from sin by His ownprecious blood.Turn away from your sinBelieve in your heart and confess with your mouth that God forgave your sins,that Jesus is your Saviour and LordThe Holy Spirit will make you a new creature; cleanse you from all sin by the authorityof God’s Word and by the precious Blood of Jesus shed to atone for your sins. When youare born-again you are a child of God. He is your Father and you can call Him Father.The Holy Spirit within your Spirit bears witness that you are a child of God. You are anew creature. Your spirit becomes new. God dwells in you.CHECK POINTS:Have you been involved in the Occult, Witchcraft, and Sorcery? Do you possess occultliterature? Are you involved in any form of idolatry? - You must renounce Satan and allhis works of darkness, rebellion, resentment and every evil cult that denies the blood ofJesus Christ. You must renounce every philosophy that denies that Jesus Christ is Lordand God. You must renounce all psychic and occult abilities and allow Christ to takethem out of your life. You must forgive everyone who has hurt you. Ask forgivenessfrom the Lord for having offended Him and others too. Ask the forgiveness of others andforgive yourself.SINNER’S PRAYER: [Say Aloud]Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. Your Word says – “He thatcomes to Me, I will not cast away.’ So I know, you will not cast me out but take me inand I thank You for it. I repent of my sins and I renounce Satan and all his works ofdarkness and the occult. I forgive all those who have offended me, I forgive myself. I askforgiveness from You Lord for having offended You and others. Thank You Lord.You said in Your Word – ‘If you shall confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus and shallbelieve in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved and thatwhosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ I believe in my heart thatJesus is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. I amcalling upon His Name – the Name of Jesus, so I know Father that You save me now.Your Word says, ‘with the heart man believes and he is made righteous and with themouth confession is made unto salvation.’ I do believe with my heart and I confess withmy mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Master. He died for me on the Cross-of Calvary for

14my sins. He was buried and He rose again the third day and He is alive forevermore.Therefore I am saved. Thank You Father.MEMORIZE: Jn3: 3.TRUE or FALSE123456789New Birth is observing religious duties.Repentance is necessary for new birth.A truly born-again person will have the external evidence of a good life.Man can be saved by good conduct.Jesus came to redeem us from spiritual death.The new birth is a gift of God received by faith.Man sins and so becomes a sinner.The new birth is gradual, not instant.You have to pay to receive eternal life.FILL IN THE BLANKS10 An important scripture reference for new birth11 To be truly born-again, what do you need to renounce?12 Whom do you need to forgive?

15LESSON NO.5RIVERS OF LIVING WATERThe prophet Joel prophesied of the outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit. 1 Jesus Christprophesied too! God kept His promise. And this experience is for us as well. In factanyone who receives Jesus as Saviour and Lord can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.The Holy Spirit leads a person to Jesus Christ for salvation, while Jesus Christ leads aborn again person to the Holy Spirit, for Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit. The two experiences‘New Birth’ and ‘Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit’ generally follow each other or appearsimultaneously. The Born-Again experience is for sinners. This experience blesses theindividual. Here, the Holy Spirit leads an unbeliever through the Word to Jesus Christ forsalvation, new birth, and the gift of eternal life. 2 The Rivers of Life or Baptism-in-theHoly Spirit experience comes only after a person is born-again. It is receiving the free giftof the Holy Spirit.3 The person is filled with the Holy Spirit only when he is a newcreature. Both these gifts are already available. We need to pray that people wouldreceive these gifts one after the other.The Holy Spirit is a person. He is God and a member of the Holy Trinity. He functions inunity, harmony and cooperation with the Father and the Son Jesus Christ. Through theBaptism-in-the-Holy Spirit experience He enables us to experience Jesus in a richer andfuller way, to experience more love for God and fellow men, and to be effective bold andpowerful witnesses for Jesus Christ.All Christians have the indwelling Holy Spirit. He is brought into their lives in a greaterdimension when Jesus baptizes them in the Holy Spirit. For example, Peter denied Jesusthrice out of fear. But he became bold and fearless after this experience on the day ofPentecost. He spoke boldly to thousands of Jews that Jesus, whom they murdered, hadrisen from the dead and was sitting at God’s right hand. As a result three thousandreceived Jesus Christ as their Saviour. When one has had this experience, he opens hislife to the nine spiritual supernatural gifts [amidst other ministry gifts], of the HolySpirit,4 Who distributes them according to His will 5 as He finds a need arising. Thesenine gifts are:Gifts of Revelation:Gifts of Utterance:Gifts of Power:Word of Wisdom; Word of Knowledge; Discerning of Spirits.Prophecy; Tongues; Interpretation of Tongues.Gift of faith, Gifts of Healings; Working of Miracles.The evidence of the Holy Spirit infilling is shown by speaking in Tongues. 6 Simon theSorcerer wanted to buy this gift, - the ability to lay hands on people and have themreceive the Holy Spirit. Peter ministered salvation and Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit inCornelius’ house. The Holy Spirit was out poured on gentile converts at Ephesus who1Joel2: 28; 2 Jn4:14; 3 Jn7: 38; 4 1Cor12: 4-10; 5 1Cor12: 11;6Acts2: 4;

16were saved, Baptized in the Holy Spirit, spoke in tongues and prophesied. All this isrecorded in the Book of Acts.The Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts, not spiritual fruit. Many think thatbecause a person has the gifts of the Spirit, he must be a holy man. This may not be true.The fruit of the Spirit 7 and walking in holiness is in committing one’s life to Christ, inobedience to His Word, prayer and so on – which is the development of his character.Both fruit as well as gifts are important and should be in balance.This experience is freely available to the believer since the day of Pentecost and can bereceived at any time. A very good time to receive it could be when the person is just bornagain. Paul received the Holy Spirit by the laying of hands. He laid hands on theEphesians and they received as well. Although many have unusual experiences whenthey are born-again or baptized-in-the-Holy Spirit or both, yet we need to seek the Wordof God and not unusual experiences. If you are born-again you are ready to receive the‘Rivers of Living Water’ or Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit experience.STEPS TO RECEIVE BAPTISM-IN-THE-HOLY SPIRIT1.Thank God for saving you through Jesus Christ. Renew your commitment to Him.Repent and forsake sin, including your involvement in the occult [if any].Have a strong desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit.Ask Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. When you ask, believe youreceive.Expect to speak in ‘tongues.’ You must do it yourself. The Holy Spirit will helpyou.As a child of God, do not fear that you will receive something false or counterfeit.Breathe deeply and tell the Lord that you are receiving the Holy Spirit rightnow in faith. Do not speak in any language you know. But speak in the newlanguage God gives you, which you have never learnt.2.3.4.5.6.MEMORIZE: Jn7: 38.TRUE or FALSE123456787The Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit always takes place at the moment of salvation.The Rivers of Life experience is only for Christians.The Rivers of Life experience is only for very spiritual Christians.The nine spiritual gifts are given to increase our natural abilities.The spiritual gifts are distributed according to the will of the Holy Spirit.The gifts of revelation refer to things the Holy Spirit reveals to our minds.The purpose of the Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit is to give us the gift of love.If we stay close to Christ we will have all the gifts in our lives.Ga5: 22-23;

179 A Spirit filled life wants to share Christ with others.10 The Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit can be received before a person is born-again.11 Salvation is the free gift of the Holy Spirit while Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit isreceiving the free gift of eternal life.12. Name the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit:STRIKE OUT THE INCORRECT ONE13 The Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit gives us Spiritual Fruit / Spiritual Gifts.14 The Baptism-in-the-Holy Spirit is connected with Character / Works15 The Fruit of the Spirit is connected with Character / Works.

18LESSON NO.6GOD’S HOLY BOOKThe Bible is God’s Word. It is God speaking to man. It gives us a historical account ofGod dealing with man. It is a practical guide to life that inspires and shows us the way ofsalvation. 1 The Bible is God’s holy book.We know that the Bible is the Word of God because it has been miraculously Preservedfor many years, through holy people who themselves were changed by its message.Although the Bible was written over a 1400-year period we discover Unity through all itsbooks, with one underlying message that God is calling mankind to fellowship with Him.Many Prophecies have been fulfilled over hundreds of years. Archaeologists have provedthe accuracy of biblical writers. Millions have been Transformed by the power of JesusChrist just as the Bible promises [1Tess2: 13; Heb4: 12].There are several reasons why God gave us the Bible. “The Bible is Jesus.” And Jesushas always been God’s message.2 God’s Word is about the life He wants to minister to usdaily. Scripture brings profit. 3 When you know the Bible you will not get hooked inSatan’s traps, and you will be well equipped for every good work. The general theme ofthe Bible is God’s loving plan to rescue mankind.The Bible is God’s special book, the world’s bestseller written by different peopleinspired by the Holy Spirit. It contains God’s words, thoughts, plans & promises. 4 Godkept two copies of the historic records of His special dealing with and revelation to man.One was the Bible that had been written on parchment and placed in the hands of men.The other was written in the ‘ruined remains’ and in strange languages of those landsfrom where the Bible came. The Old Testament is a collection of works written over athousand-year period, the last book Malachi was written in the fifth century BC. The NewTestament was written over a span of sixty-years between the death of Christ and the endof the first century. It has been translated originally in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek andthen into many other languages. God has preserved the truth of His Word despite errorsin copying and tra
