PL ANN IN G APPLICAT ION UPDATELatest on the planning application for the Alton Estate RegenerationA once in a generation masterplan to regenerate partof Wandsworth’s iconic Alton estate was approved byWandsworth Borough Council’s Planning ApplicationsCommittee on 22nd October. The final decision on thescheme will now rest with the Mayor of London.Authority and the Regeneration Team have met withofficers from the Mayor’s team to discuss the plansand hope to receive a positive decision from the Mayorat the earliest possible opportunity.Procurement: The Council took ownership of theplanning application for the regeneration in Septemberwhen the Council’s development partner (RedrowHomes) withdrew from the scheme following adecision to focus on regional developments. TheCouncil has reviewed the different options fordelivering the regeneration and has approved a plan torecruit a new development partner. Officers from both the Local PlanningWork has almost concluded at 5 Portswood Placeto convert the vacant shop unit into a temporarywood-work studio for Roehampton Shed, which willgive them more space to recommence their sessionssafely and more quickly following lockdown.It is intended that the Shed Team will collaboratewith other locals of all ages on projects to enhanceoutdoor spaces on the estate and connect residentswith nature, including the building of planters andhedgehog homes.WITLEY POINT MULTI USEGAMES AREA (MUGA) OPENINGThe Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Jane Cooper, hasopened a 250,000 refurbishment of a MUGA as partof the Alton regeneration. Children from HeathmereSchool were invited to a socially distanced openingevent featuring mural painting, daffodil planting andthe construction of a bug hotel to encourage wildlife.Cabinet Member for Housing and Deputy Leader,Cllr Kim Caddy, said:“ I’m excited and pleased the games area has opened asit is a key part of our plans for the regeneration of theAlton Estate. The regeneration will deliver new Councilhomes but this demonstrates regeneration is aboutmore than just housing.”

We’re a movement of parents committed toalleviating material poverty in London and our missionis to build small, warm communities of families whosupport one another when times are tough. Our visionis that no child in the capital is without the essentialthings they need to thrive and that every parent canplay a part in achieving that.During Covid-19 we have been unable to carry onmeeting families in person, so we have launcheda “Virtual Village” to continue delivering hygieneessentials and emergency clothing bundles to familiesacross the capital. Little Village is on track to support6,000 children across London this year which is morethan double the number we supported last year.We have been working with Eastwood Children’s Centre to distributenappies and toiletries to families with children up to 5 years old,along with the Roehampton Community Boxes supplied by RacketsCubed in partnership with Heathmere School and Regenerate.Following the lockdown, we will be looking for volunteers for sorting,packing and dispatching sessions every Monday and Tuesday duringterm time between 10am and 1pm. All our volunteering sessionsare run in line with government coronavirus guidelines and providea flexible, fulfilling way of supporting other families who arestruggling during this very difficult time.To find out more please contact Helen Speedy at:helen@littlevillagehq.orgTHE FIRST ALTON CHRISTMA S TREEThe Alton Regeneration Team in collaboration with theEconomic Development Office are excited to announce thata 20ft evergreen conifer has been installed in Roehamptonfor the first time this Christmas. The tree is locally sourcedand will be situated at the junction between DaneburyAvenue and Holyborne Avenue for approximately five weeks.In January the tree will be recycled by Roehampton Shed foruse in woodwork projects with the local community.The tree has been adorned with white lights which wereswitched on by The Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr JaneCooper, and local resident and Founder of Estate Art,Lynne Capocciama. A film of the switch on willbe available to view on the Council’s website.The Regeneration Team has also been hosting virtual craftsessions with local schools and youth groups to create paperchain decorations. Each strip has been decorated to depicta mood, a feeling, an experience or a hope. Each chain willmeasure just over two metres in length to represent therecommended social distance, and will symbolise unityand connecting with others. ROEHAMPTON COMMUNITY BOX UPDATEBY NIKKI ROSSNERAs the COVID-19 pandemic persists through the winter, volunteersand community groups from across Roehampton continue to supportresidents with the Roehampton Community Box project. Since thelockdown began in March over 6,048 boxes have been delivered and148 boxes continue to be delivered every week.If you would like to support this projectplease go y-boxesWHITE RIBBON C AMPAIGN:STAND UP AND SPE AK OUTAGAINST D OMESTIC VIOLENCEBY VICKY PIGOTTEvery year thousands of people stand up, speak out and say no to violence against womenWith the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s White RibbonCampaign has become even more important than ever witha significant increase in violence, harassment and abusetowards women. The White Ribbon pledge is:“ Never commit, excuse, or remain silent about maleviolence against women and girls.”Roehampton has one of the highest incidences of domesticabuse in the borough of Wandsworth, with rates increasingduring the pandemic and during lockdown. Locally, groupssuch as Regenerate and Citizens Advice Wandsworth havebeen supporting this campaign and White Ribbon postersand National Helpline cards have also been shared throughoutRoehampton.At the Ashburton Youth Club, Regenerate has been teachingyoung people about White Ribbon day and the importanceof the campaign. WANDSWORTH ARTS FRINGE NEEDS YOUThe much-loved arts festival needs you to get involvedWandsworth Arts Fringe (WAF) is a much-lovedlocal arts festival that electrifies the borough ofWandsworth every year.
