DAY ONEN OT E STHE FIRST PRINCIPLE IN THE SCIENCEOF GETTING RICH1234Thought is the only power that can produce tangibleriches from the formless substance. The stuff from whichall things are made is a substance which thinks. A thoughtof form in this substance produces the form.567891011Original substance moves according to its thoughts.Every form and process you see in nature is the visibleexpression of a thought in the original substance. As itthinks of a form, it takes that form; as it thinks of a motion,it makes that motion. That is the way all things werecreated. We live in a thought world, and this world is apart of a thought universe.1213141516171819The original thought of a moving universe first extendedthroughout the formless substance. The thinking stuffresulting from that thought, took the form of systems ofplanets and continues to maintain that form. Thinkingsubstance takes the form of its thought and movesaccording to the thought. Holding the idea of a circlingsystem of suns and worlds, it took the form of thesebodies, and moved them accordingly.2021222324252627Although centuries may be required to do the work,by thinking the form of a slow growing tree, the formlesssubstance produces the tree. In creating, the formlesssubstance seems to move according to the lines ofmotion it has established. The thought of an oak treedoes not cause the instant formation of a full-grown tree, butit does start in motion the forces which will produce the treealong established lines of growth.282930Every thought of form, held in thinking substance, causesthe creation of that form — but always, or at least generally, along lines of growth and action already established.2www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E STHE FIRST PRINCIPLE IN THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH31323334353637383940If the thought of a house of a certain construction wereimpressed upon the formless substance, it might notcause the instant formation of that house. But it wouldcause the turning of creative energies already working intrade and commerce into such channels as to result in thespeedy building of the house. And, if there were no existingchannels through which the creative energy could work, thehouse would be formed directly from primal substance —without waiting for the slow processes of the organic andinorganic world.41424344454647No thought of form can be impressed upon the originalsubstance without causing the creation of that form.A human being is a thinking center and can originatethought. All the forms that a person fashions with his orher hands must first emerge from thought. An individualcannot shape a thing until that same individual has thoughtthat thing.484950515253And, so far, the human race has confined its efforts whollyto the work of its hands, it has applied manual labor to theworld of forms — seeking to change or modify alreadyexisting forms. Our human race has never thought oftrying to cause the creation of new forms by impressingthought upon the formless substance.54555657585960616263646566When individuals have a thought form, they takematerial from the forms of nature and make an image ofthe form which is in the mind. They have, so far, made littleor no effort to cooperate with the formless intelligence— to work “with the Father.” They have not dreamedthat they can do what they have seen the Father doing.Humans reshape and modify existing forms by manuallabor. We have not considered the question of whetherwe could produce things from the formless substance bycommunicating our thoughts to it. I propose to prove thatwe may do so, to prove that any man or woman maydo so, and to show how. My first step will be to lay downthree fundamental propositions.6768First, we assert that there is one original formlesssubstance from which all things are made. All the3www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E STHE FIRST PRINCIPLE IN THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH69707172737475767778seemingly many elements are only different presentationsof one element. All the many forms found in organicand inorganic nature are only different shapes madefrom the same stuff. And, this stuff is thinking stuff; athought held in it produces the form of the thought. Thought,in thinking substance, produces shapes. A human being is athinking center, capable of original thought. If any one of uscan communicate our thought to original thinking substance,we can cause the creation or formation of the thing we thinkabout. To summarize this:798081There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, andfills the interspaces of the universe.8283A thought in this substance produces the thing that isimaged by the thought.848586You can form things in your thought, and by impressingyour thought upon formless substance, can cause the thingyou think about to be created.8788899091I can prove these statements by both logic and experience.Reasoning back from the phenomenon of form and thought,I come to one original thinking substance. And reasoningforward from this thinking substance, I come to the individual’spower to cause the formation of the thing one thinks about.9293949596979899By experiment, I find this reasoning to be true, and this ismy strongest proof. If one person who listens to this programgets rich by doing what I say to do, that is evidence in supportof my claim. Furthermore, if every person who does whatI say to do gets rich, that is positive proof until someonegoes through the process and fails. The theory is true untilthe process fails, and this process will not fail because everyperson who does exactly what I say to do will get rich.100101102103I have said that an individual gets rich by doing things ina certain way. In order to do so, you must become able tothink in a certain way. Your way of doing things is the directresult of the way you think about things.4www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E STHE FIRST PRINCIPLE IN THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH104105106107To do things in a way you want to do them, you will haveto acquire the ability to think the way you want to think. Thisis the first step toward getting rich. To think what you wantto think is to think truth regardless of appearances.108109110111112113114You have the natural and inherent power to think whatyou want to think, but it requires far more effort to do sothan it does to think the thoughts which are suggested byappearances. To think according to appearances is easy.To think truth regardless of appearances is laborious andrequires the expenditure of more power than any other workyou have to perform.115116117118119120121There is no labor from which most people shrink as theydo from that of sustained and consecutive thought; it is thehardest work in the world. This is especially true whentruth is contrary to appearances. Every appearance inthe visible world tends to produce a corresponding form inthe mind which observes it. This can only be prevented byholding the thought of the truth.122123124125126To look upon the appearance of disease will produce theform of disease in your own mind — and ultimately in yourbody. Instead you must hold the thought of the truth, whichis that there is no disease. Disease is only an appearance, and the reality is health.127128129130To look upon the appearances of poverty will producecorresponding forms in your own mind. Instead, youmust hold to the truth that there is no poverty. There isonly abundance.131132133134135It requires power to think health when surrounded by theappearances of disease, or to think riches when in the midstof the appearances of poverty. But, when you acquire thispower, you become a master mind. You can conquer fate;you can have what you want.136137138139This power can only be acquired by getting hold of thebasic fact which is behind all appearances: that there is onethinking substance, from which and by which all things aremade.5www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E STHE FIRST PRINCIPLE IN THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH140141142143Then, we must grasp the truth that every thought heldin this substance becomes a form and that a person canimpress thoughts upon it so as to cause them to take formand become visible things.144145146147148When we realize this, we lose all doubt and fear becausewe know that we can create what we want to create. We canget what we want to have and can become what we wantto be. As a first step toward getting rich, we must believethe three fundamental statements given previously. In order toemphasize them, I will repeat them here:149 There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,150 and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and151 fills the interspaces of the universe.152 A thought in this substance produces the thing that is153 imaged by the thought.154 You can form things in your thought, and by impressing155 thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing you156 think about to be created.157158159160161162163164165166167You must lay aside all other concepts of the universethan this monistic one. You must dwell upon this until it isfixed in your mind and has become your habitual thought.Read these creed statements over and over again. Fix everyword upon your memory, and meditate upon them untilyou firmly believe what they say. If a doubt comes toyou, cast it aside as a sin. Do not listen to argumentsagainst this idea; do not go to churches or lectures wherea contrary concept of things is taught or preached. Do notread magazines or books which teach a different idea. If youget mixed up in your faith, all your efforts will be in vain.168 Do not ask why these things are true, nor speculate as to169 how they can be true. Simply take them on trust.170 The science of getting rich begins with the absolute171 acceptance of this faith.6www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

QUESTIONSN OT E S1. What is the first step toward getting rich?2. What is humankind and what power do we have?3. Repeat the three fundamental statements given above. Do you understandthem? Do you believe them? How can they be proved?4. What is the basic fact behind all appearances?7www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

DAY TWON OT E STHE IMPRESSION OF INCREASE123Whether you change your vocation or not, you mustdirect your present actions to the business in which youare presently engaged.4567You can get into the business you want by makingconstructive use of the business you are alreadyestablished in — by doing your daily work in the certainway.891011And, in so far as your business consists in dealing withother people — whether directly, by telephone, or by letter— the key thought of all your efforts must be to convey totheir mind the impression of increase.121314Increase is what all men and all women are seeking. It is the urge of the formless intelligence within them tofind fuller expression.1516171819202122The desire for increase is inherent in all nature. It is thefundamental impulse of the universe. All human activitiesare based on the desire for increase. People are seekingmore food, more clothes, better shelter, more luxury, morebeauty, more knowledge, more pleasure — more life.Every living thing is under that necessity for continuousadvancement. Where increase of life ceases, dissolutionand death set in at once.2324252627People instinctively know this, and hence they areforever seeking more. This law of perpetual increase isset forth by Jesus in the parable of the talents. Onlythose who gain more retain any. “From him who hath notshall be taken away even that which he hath.”2829303132The normal desire for increased wealth is not an evilor a reprehensible thing. It is simply the desire for a moreabundant life. And, because it is the deepest instinct of theirnatures, all men and women are attracted to an individualwho can give them more of the means of life.33343536In following the certain way — as described in the foregoingpages — you are getting continuous increase for yourself, and you are giving it to all with whom you deal. You are acreative center from which increase is given off to all.14www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E S373839404142Be sure of this, and convey assurance of this fact to everyman, woman, and child with whom you come in contact. No matter how small the transaction — even if it is onlyselling a stick of candy to a little child — put into this actionthe thought of increase and make sure that the customer isimpressed with the thought.4344454647Convey the impression of advancement with everythingyou do, so that all people shall receive the impression thatyou are an advancing person and that you advance allwho deal with you. Also, give people who you meet sociallythe thought of increase.4849505152535455You can convey this impression by holding the unshakablefaith that you are in the way of increase and by letting this faithinspire, fill, and permeate every action. Do everything thatyou do in the firm conviction that you are an advancingpersonality, and that you are giving advancement toeverybody. Feel that you are getting rich, and that in sodoing you are making others rich — that you are conferringbenefits on all.5657Do not boast or brag of your success or talk about itunnecessarily. True faith is never boastful.5859606162636465Wherever you find a boastful person, you find one whois secretly doubtful and afraid. Simply feel the faith andlet it work out in every transaction. Let every act andtone and look express the quiet assurance that you aregetting rich — that you are already rich. Words will not benecessary to communicate this feeling to others. They willfeel the sense of increase when they are in your presence, and will be attracted to you.66676869You must so impress others that they will feel that inassociating with you they will get increase for themselves.See that you give them a use value greater than the cashvalue you are taking from them.70717273747576777879If you always take an honest pride in doing this andlet everybody know it, you will always have customers.People will go where they are given increase; and theSupreme Power — which desires increase in everythingand which knows everything — will move you towardmen and women who have never heard of you. Your businesswill increase rapidly, and you will be surprised at the unexpectedbenefits which will come to you. You will be able to make largercombinations, to secure greater advantages, and go on into amore congenial vocation if you desire to do so.15www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E S8081828384However, in doing all this, you must never lose sight ofyour vision of what you want or of your faith and purpose.Let me here give you another word of caution in regard tomotives: beware of the insidious temptation to seek powerover other people.85868788899091Nothing is so pleasant to the unformed or partiallydeveloped mind as the exercise of power or domination overothers. The desire to rule for selfish gratification has beenthe curse of the world. For countless ages, kings and lordshave drenched the earth with blood in their battles to extendtheir dominions. They have not been engaged in an effort toseek more life for all, but to get more power for themselves.9293949596Today, the main motive in the business and industrialworld is the same. People marshal their armies of dollarsand lay waste the lives and hearts of millions in the samemad scramble for power over others. Commercial kings, likepolitical kings, are inspired by the lust for power.979899Look out for the temptation to seek authority, to becomea master, to be considered as one who is above the commonherd, and to impress others by lavish display.100101102103104105106107The mind that seeks for mastery over others is thecompetitive mind, and the competitive mind is not thecreative one. In order to master your environment and yourdestiny, it is not at all necessary that you should rule overyour fellows. And, indeed, when you fall into the world’sstruggle for high places, you begin to be conquered byfate and environment and getting rich becomes a matterof chance and speculation.108109110111Beware of the competitive mind! No better statementof the principle of creative action can be formulated thanthe favorite declaration of the late Golden Rule Jones:“What I want for myself, I want for everybody.”16www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

QUESTIONSN OT E S1. Why do all people desire increase?2. What assurance should you seek to convey to others?3. What temptation is spoken of in this section?4. How much power do you want?5. Why do you want power?17www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

DAY THREEN OT E SGRATITUDE1The first step toward23getting rich is to convey the idea of your wants to theformless substance.456This is true, and you will see that in order to do so itbecomes necessary to relate yourself to the formlessintelligence in a harmonious way.7891011To secure this harmonious relationship is a matter ofsuch primary and vital importance that I will give somespace to its discussion here. I will give you instructionswhich, if you follow them, will be certain to bring you intoa perfect unity of mind with God.12131415161718The whole process of mental adjustment andatunement can be summed up in one word: gratitude.First, you believe that there is one intelligent substancefrom which all things proceed. Secondly, you believethat this substance gives you everything you desire. And,thirdly, you relate yourself to it through a feeling of deepand profound gratitude.1920212223Many people who order their lives rightly in allother ways are kept in poverty by their lack ofgratitude. Having received one gift from God, they cutthe wires which connect them with Him by failing tomake acknowledgment.2425262728It is easy to understand that the nearer we live to thesource of wealth, the more wealth we shall receive. It is alsoeasy to understand that a soul that is always grateful livesin closer touch with God than one who never looks to Him inthankful acknowledgment.293031323334When good things come to us, the more gratefully wefix our mind on the Supreme Power, the more good thingswe will receive — and the more rapidly they will come. Thereason for this is simply that the mental attitude of gratitudedraws the mind into closer touch with the source from whichthe blessings come.353637If it is a new thought to you that gratitude brings yourwhole mind into closer harmony with the creative energiesof the universe, consider it well, and you will see that it is24www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E S3839404142true. The good things you already possess have come to youbecause of certain laws. Gratitude will lead your mind outalong the ways by which things come. And, it will keep youin close harmony with creative thought and prevent you fromfalling into competitive thought.43444546Gratitude alone can keep you looking toward the Infiniteand prevent you from falling into the error of thinking thatthe supply of riches is limited — and to think that would befatal to your hopes.474849There is a law of gratitude, and if you are to get theresults you seek, it is absolutely necessary that you shouldobserve this law.50515253545556The law of gratitude is the natural principle that actionand reaction are always equal and in opposite directions. The grateful outreaching of your mind in thankful praise tothe Supreme Power is a liberation or expenditure of force;it cannot fail to reach that to which it is addressed. And, asa result, God responds with an instantaneous movementtoward you.5758“Draw nigh unto God, and He will draw nigh unto you.”That is a statement of psychological truth.5960616263646566And, if your gratitude is strong and constant, thereaction in the formless substance will be strong andcontinuous. The movement of the things you want willalways be toward you. Notice the grateful attitude thatJesus took — how he always seems to be saying, “I thankThee, Father, that Thou hearest me.” You cannot exercisemuch power without gratitude, because it is gratitudethat keeps you connected with power.67686970But, the value of gratitude does not consist solely ingetting more blessings in the future. Without gratitudeyou cannot keep from being displeased with things asthey are.7172The moment you permit your mind to dwell withdispleasure upon things as they are, you begin to lose7374757677ground. You fix attention upon the common, the poor, thesqualid, and the mean — and your mind takes the form ofthese things. You will then transmit these forms or mentalimages to the formless. Thus, the common, the poor, thesqualid, and the mean will come to you.25www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E S78798081To permit your mind to dwell upon the inferior is tobecome inferior and to surround yourself with inferior things. On the other hand, to fix your attention on the best is tosurround yourself with the best and to become the best.82838485The creative power within us makes us into the imageof that to which we give our attention. We are thinkingsubstance, and thinking substance always takes the form ofthat which it thinks about.868788The grateful mind is constantly fixed upon the best. Therefore, it tends to become the best; it takes the form orcharacter of the best and will receive the best.89909192939495Also, faith is born of gratitude. The grateful mind continuallyexpects good things, and expectation becomes faith. Thereaction of gratitude upon one’s own mind produces faith.Every outgoing wave of grateful thanksgiving increasesfaith. The person who has no feeling of gratitude cannotlong retain a living faith. And, as we will see, without a living faithyou cannot get rich by the creative method.96979899100It is necessary, then, to cultivate the habit of beinggrateful for every good thing that comes to you — togive thanks continuously. And, because all things havecontributed to your advancement, you should include allthings in your gratitude.101102103104105Do not waste time thinking or talking about theshortcomings or wrong actions of plutocrats or trustmagnates. Their organization of the world has madeyour opportunity. All that you have received really hascome to you because of them.106107108Do not rage against corrupt politicians. If it werenot for politicians we should fall into anarchy, and youropportunity would be greatly lessened.109110111112113114115116117118119God has worked a long time and very patiently tobring us up to where we are in industry and government. And He is going right on with His work. I believe that Hewill do away with plutocrats, trust magnates, captains ofindustry, and politicians as soon as they can be spared. But, in the meantime, they are very necessary. Rememberthat they are helping to arrange the lines of transmissionalong which your riches will come to you. Be grateful tothem. This will bring you into a harmonious relationshipwith the good in everything and the good in everythingwill move toward you.26www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

DAY FOURN OT E SDECISION-MAKING by Bob Proctor12345There is a single mental move you can make which, in a millisecond, willsolve enormous problems for you. It has the potential to improve almost anypersonal or business situation you will ever encounter and it could literallypropel you down the path to incredible success. We have a name for thismagic mental activity it is called DECISION.678910111213141516171819Decisions, or the lack of them, are responsible for the breaking or makingof many a career. Individuals who have become very proficient at makingdecisions, without being influenced by the opinions of others, are the samepeople whose annual incomes fall into the six and seven figure category. However, it’s not just your income that is affected by decisions; your whole lifeis dominated by this power. The health of your mind and body, the well-beingof your family, your social life, the type of relationships you develop all aredependent upon your ability to make sound decisions. You would think anything as important as decision making, when it hassuch far reaching power would be taught in every school, but it is not. Tocompound the problem, not only is decision-making missing from thecurriculum of our educational institutions, up until recently it’s also beenabsent from most of the corporate training and human resource programsavailable.2021222324So, how is a person expected to develop this mental ability? Quite simply, youmust do it on your own. However, I think it’s important to understand thatit’s not difficult to learn how to make wise decisions. Armed with the properinformation and by subjecting yourself to certain disciplines, you can becomea very effective decision maker.25262728You can virtually eliminate conflict and confusion in your life by becomingproficient at making decisions. Decision-making brings order to your mind, and of course, this order is then reflected in your objective world yourresults.29 James Allen may have been thinking of decisions when he wrote,30313233343536“We think in secret and it comes to pass.Environment is but our looking glass.”35No one can see you making decisions, but they will almost always see theresults of your decisions. The person who fails to develop their ability tomake decisions is doomed because indecision sets up internal conflictswhich can, without warning, escalate into all out mental and emotional wars.Psychiatrists have a name to describe these internal wars, it is ambivalence. My Oxford Dictionary tells me that ambivalence is the co-existence in oneperson of opposite feelings toward the same objective.www.ProctorGallagherInstitute.com

N OT E S37383940414243You do not require a doctorate degree in psychiatry to understand thatyou are going to have difficulty in your life by permitting your mind toremain in an ambivalent state for any period of time. The person whodoes permit it to exist will become very despondent and virtually incapableof any type of productive activity. It is obvious that anyone who findsthemselves in such a mental state is not living; at best, they are merelyexisting. A decision or a series of decisions would change everything.4445464748A very basic law of the universe is “create or disintegrate”. Indecisioncauses disintegration. How often have you heard a person say, “I don’tknow what to do.” How often have you heard yourself say, “What shouldI do?” Think about some of the indecisive feelings you and virtuallyeveryone on this planet experience from time to time.Love ThemQuitDo ItGo BankruptGo To WorkBuy ItSay ItTell ThemLeave ThemStayDon’t Do ItNo
