Qingdao is home to the world’s busiest port, and is famous for its European architecture from itstime as a German colony.ShanghaiShanghai is China’s largest city center by population with more than 23 million and is the most developed ofChina’s cities. It serves as China’s financial and commercial center, and is located in the middle of the EastCoast of China. The city’s port is the busiest container port in the world by the total volume of shipshandled.TianjinLocated just 75 miles southeast of Beijing, Tianjin is China’s third largest city and one of the fastest growingeconomies in the country. The city has a population of 13 million. Tianjin is famous for its tea, colonialarchitecture and the country’s largest antique market.AirportsBeijing Capital International Airport (PEK) The airport is located 16 miles (26km) northeast of Beijing’s city center. An Airport Express train and taxis provide transportation from the airport to the city center. Transportation to the city center from PEK via Airport Express has a one-way fare of 25 (US 4) and anaverage time of 25 minutes. Transportation to the city center from PEK via taxi has an average cost of 90 (US 14.50) and an averagetime of 1 hour.

Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport (TNA) The airport is located 24 miles (40km) northeast of Jinan’s city center. Transportation to the city center from TNA via bus has a one-way fare of 20 (US 3.25) and an averagetime of 45 minutes. Jinan is also accessible from Beijing via the China High Speed Rail with an average time of 1.5 hours and acost of 65 (US 10.50).Qingdao Liuting International Airport (TAO) The airport is located 20 miles (32km) north of Qingdao’s city center. Transportation to the city center from TAO via taxi has an average cost of 130 (US 21) and an averagetime of 30 minutes.Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) The airport is located 24 miles (40km) east of Shanghai’s city center. Buses, high-speed Maglev rail and taxis provide transportation from the airport to the city center. Transportation to the city center from PVG via bus costs between 15-30 (US 2.40-4.80) and has anaverage time of 90 minutes. Transportation to the city center from PVG via high-speed Maglev rail has an average cost of 50 (US 8)and has an average time of 10 minutes. Transportation to the city center from PVG via taxi has an average cost of 160 (US 26) and an averagetime of at least 1 hour.Tianjin Binhai International Airport (ZBTJ) The airport is located 9 miles (15km) east of Tianjin’s city center. Buses and taxis provide transportation from the airport to the city center. Transportation to the city center from ZBTJ via bus costs 25 (US 4) and has an average time of 45minutes. Tianjin is also accessible from Beijing via China High Speed Rail with an average time of 30 minutes andcost of 65 (US 10.50).TransportationBeijing Bus: Beijing’s bus system is cost efficient and convenient. Bus fares are 1 (US 0.15) and a 60% discount ifyou purchase a pre-paid, multi-use card from a subway station. While buses are inexpensive and covermost of the city, they are often difficult for tourists to use as English is rarely spoken or written on signs. Taxi: Taxis are a convenient and inexpensive form of transportation in Beijing, but trips can be delayed byrush hour traffic. If taking a taxi to your destination, it is advised that you have the address written inChinese characters in order to assist drivers with limited English. Subway: Beijing’s extensive subway system consists of 15 lines and runs from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. It isextremely crowded during rush hours. Tickets cost 2 (US 0.30) per ride, and travelers can purchase apre-paid, multi-use card.Jinan Taxi: Taxis are the most convenient form of transportation for visitors in Jinan. Drivers, however, rarelyspeak English, so it is imperative that you provide the address of your destination written in Chinese.Qingdao Bus: The bus system in Qingdao is inexpensive and efficient. Bus trips cost 1 (US 0.15) for a regular busand 2 (US 0.30) for air conditioned buses. Dedicated bus lanes make riding the bus a faster optionduring rush hours. Trips are 2 (US 0.30) each. Taxi: Taxis are the most convenient form of transportation for visitors in Shanghai. If taking a taxi to yourdestination, it is advised that you have the address written in Chinese characters in order to assist driverswith limited English. If you do not have the address in Chinese, taxi drivers in Shanghai typically have thenumber for a translator that can assist you. Subway: Shanghai’s subway system has 12 lines and seven new lines under construction. Fares range from 3- 9 (US 0.50- 1.50) depending upon the distance.Tianjin Bus: Buses in Tianjin travel throughout the city, but language barriers make traveling on them complicatedfor visitors. Fares range from 1- 1.5 (US 0.16- 0.25) depending upon the distance. Taxi: Taxis are the most convenient form of transportation for visitors in Tianjin. Tourist maps are availableat hotels and throughout the city and have location names in both English and Chinese in order to assisttravelers. Subway: The subway system in Tianjin is currently in the process of expanding beyond its 50 stations andfour lines.
