Sales SupportUnderstanding the Importance of Light SpreadAny puck-style, under-cabinet light should have a light spread of at least 90º in order to avoid spot lighting. The cases noted here have light spreads of 25º and 45º. In the case of the 25º light spread, each fixture needs to be spaced amaximum of 8” apart to avoid spot lighting, and the 45º light would need to be placed 12” apart. In both cases, narrow beamlights produce higher foot-candle (FC) readings but limited coverage. Simply choosing higher FC readings and ignoring thebeam angle leads to unintentional spot lighting. When compared to competitor lighting options, using a Tresco 3W provides 127 lumens with 120º spread versus only 28 and70 lumens with spreads of 25 and 45 . This allows Tresco 3W pucks to be spaced 20” apart, creating continuous lightingwithout scallops or shadows. Only five Tresco lights are needed to illuminate the countertop surface and backsplash, 45%81”less than the competition. 81”COMPETITOR LIGHTINGCOMPETITOR LIGHTING5” spaces between fixtures270”2 dead spots12” to full saturationPuck fixture25º spread8” spaces between fixtures281”2 dead spots10.5” to full saturationPuck fixtureDead spots40º spreadEven illumination occurs12” below wall cabinetsDead spotsEven illumination occurs10.5” below wall cabinetsLights required9 9Lightsrequired81”TRESCO LIGHTING18-20” spaces between fixtures114”2 dead spots3.5” to full saturationTRESCO 3WIlluminatescomplete workspaceand backsplashL-POC-3LEDSFRTRESCO fixture 120º spreadEven illumination occurs3.5” below wall cabinetsTRESCO Fixture 120º Spread25º40º120ºCompetitor lightsdo not illuminatecomplete worskpace(backsplash is dark)1-800-227-1171 trescolighting.com

Sales ltageVoltage drop is the amount of electric current lost due to theresistance of the conductors (wires). o12VLighting LightSeriesPockit(Puck)LightSeriesPockit(Puck)On most installations – even larger installations – voltage drop isnot an issue, but excessive voltage drop could result in diminishedlight output. Keeping wire length in mind is a best practice to ensureoptimum light performance. For instance, if specifications recommend that the maximum lengthfrom Power Supply to the first Light not exceed 5 meters (16 ft.), thelight will still work if you exceed that length! Again the loss isgradual, but an excessive length could result in dimmer light. Note: The information provided for measuring voltage drop is ageneral guide only based on the length of the run and assuming 50%load (30W). Voltage drop goes down with less load and voltage dropgoes up with more load. Other factors may influence voltage drop. Allmeasurements and calculations are approximate.Other factors also influence voltage drop, including the number ofconnectors, quality of the conductor (aluminum vs. copper wires), andcross-sectional area (gauge). In-wall wiring: Wires that are attached to or accompany Trescolighting systems are not approved for in-wall use. Class 2, 16-gauge(AWG) wires must be used (purchased separately). All Tresco wires and cords provided are specifically for wiringoutside of walls and have a 4.6 meters (15 ft.) maximum lengthrecommendation. All Tresco Power Supplies can be applied to the information providedherein on voltage drop.Ideally, Voltage Drop variance should be within 5%.Absolute maximum should never exceed 8%.For in-wall wiring, stranded Class 2, 16-gauge wires must be used(purchased separately). Also if needed, lower gauge (which meanslarger wire) helps reduce voltage drop by lowering overall resistance. Recommended maximum length using links/extensions thataccompany Tresco lights 4.6 meters (15 ft.). Recommended maximum length using Class 2, 16-gauge wire 7.6 meters (25 ft.).12V Pockit Lights (Puck)Example 1:2.1 m (7 ft.)-2.3%Total length of wires0.3 m (1 ft.)12V0.15 m(6 in.)2 m (79 in.)0.15 m(6 in.)Voltage Drop11.7V#1120VMountingBlock12VDC PowerSupplyCord thatcomes withlight4 m (13 ft.)Example 2:12V0.15 m(6 in.)-4.3%Total length of wires0.3 m (1 ft.)Tresco LightVoltage Drop3.7 m (12 ft.)0.15 m(6 in.)1.8 m(72 in.)2m(79 in.)11.5V#2120VMountingBlock12VDC PowerSupply12VCord thatcomes with Tresco Lightlight(1) L-LED-LINKD-180extension cord-10.3% TOTALVoltage Drop9.5 m (31 ft.)Example 3:Total length of wires-6% Voltage-4.3% Voltage4 m (13 ft.)12V0.15 m(6 in.)1.8 m(72 in.)1.8 m(72 in.)Drop fromMounting Blockto LightDrop fromPower Supply toMounting Block0.15 m(6 in.)11.5V5.5 m (18 ft.)1.8 m(72 in.)1.8 m(72 in.)2m(79 in.)10.8V#3120V12VDC PowerSupply12V(2) L-LED-LINKD-180extension cordsMountingBlock(2) L-LED-LINKD-180extension cordsCord thatcomes withlightTresco LightNote: The overall Voltage Drop variance between Light #1 and Light #3 is 8%, which is noticeable.1-800-227-1171 trescolighting.com2409 Plantside Dr. Jeffersontown, KY 40299800-227-1171 Fax: 502-491-2215cservice@trescolighting.com
