LORRAINE’S ROUND-UP - August 2010August was the month of our Annual GeneralMeeting, there were no committee changes, butwe still need one more person. It would make lifeeasier with a full committee. It is not a problemif someone can’t always make it to a meeting, weunderstand, everyone sometime or other won’t beable to make it.The merit award for service to the club went toour treasurer Merv Jackson, the Industry Awardeewe gave to Warren Johncock of Midnight SpecialBand for his support and help to artists in CountryMusic. Our industry awardee for 2007 was Bernie Scott,so it was a pleasure for us to have Bernie & theAmber, Lorraine and TrevorBandits as our band for the month. They sureentertain. Being the horse’s birthday, Bernie brought along his horse Trigger so we all sang happy birthday to all horses. It’s pleasing to have a band where they all sing, thanks to all.Special guest for the day was Amber Joy Poulton. What a beautiful voice and happy friendly approach to everyone. Then along came Chooka Williams for Victoria. What can I say about him? He is always a welcome artist. Ourmember, Robert McMahon did a wonderful portrait in black and white and presented it to Chooka along with a plaque.Winner of the 2009 Len Wakefield Award Breanna Lee Kinlough did a first class performance.Trevor Adamson, who lives near Ayers Rock, Northern Territory, was a well presented friendly man with a great voice. We hope to see him again when he is in Adelaide next.It was also good to have Maureen Murphy sing several songs. It was a full day with great Country Music.Lorraine WakefieldChooka Williams with presentations from Rob McMahon and his 2010 Hands of Fame Induction Certificate at theFlying Doctor Ball Jervois August 13th and Warren Johncock with his Industry Award at our August 1st meeting.Left:- BreannaKinlough,MaureenMurphy andAmber JoyPoulton at ourAugust showPage 3

LORRAINE’S ROUND-UP - September 2010We had a great audience. Heartland, the band of the monthonce again provided great music. I just love it whenmore than one vocalist is in the band to entertain us. Thedrummer Dave Schache was back after some surgery. Weall wish him well on his recovery. I’ve been told they willbe around for a long time, thank goodness for that. Thanksto all.One of our special guests was Alec Beckett. What a greatvoice he has. He started his set with just his guitar andhimself before the band joined him. It takes a very goodartist to be able to hold an audience the way he did. Welldone Alec. Hope to see him again soon. Then the lovely Angela Easson sang a wonderful set ofsongs. Best wishes to Angela who is getting married inDecember. We hope to have her again soon in 2011.We had several walk-ups. Kevin Merrett sang very well.Ramona Paterson from Murray Bridge and Vince Wegener, the band’s keyboard player’s two step daughters Marissaand Sarah Badrice also sang. The two girls used to beknown as Sugar and Spice.Walk-ups are always welcome. If we have interstate artistsit makes it a little difficult, but we try and fit them in. Theprogram time always beats us!The night before our Sunday show was a nonstop musicalshow for Laurel Smith’s 80 birthday. Laurel and Dookiewere high kicking in tap shows and Rob was singing andswinging. Then on Sunday Sept 12th I was off to Dave William’s 80thbirthday at Wellington. Thanks to Rhonda and RussellByrne for taking me. I was able to sing three songs. InDave’s museum he has photos of me and my cassette in aglass case. What a surprise. Also there was Ian List, Jay J Shannon, Debi, DavidCroser, Dave Pearce, Ross Baker and Chooka Williams,Dean Schubert and John Stubbin (on squeeze box) just toname a few. It was a fantastic day. If you get the chancedo go to Dave’s place in November.Left:- Heartland - Keven Bergen, Darryl Eckert, Vince Wegener, Dave Schache, Sarah and Marissa - Middle:- AlecBeckett - Right:- Angela EassonKevin MerrittMarissa BadriceSarah BadricePARKING REMINDERPlease comply with the NO PARKING signs and don’t park in thearea reserved Slovenian Club members.Page 4
