NORTHWESTACHILDHOODfullOF HOPEFUNDCHILDREN’SIMAGINEN WC FNWCF Grant Recipients:Their Success is Our SuccessTwo decades ago, a group of DSHS workersjoined forces to provide foster kids with simplechildhood basics like music lessons, winter coats, and summer camp. These 'extras' fell outside thescope of state care, but they worked wonders athelping foster children realize that they have aplace in this world. As the group’s efforts began to bear fruit, theybecame aware of a host of ways a truly stellarnon-profit could brighten the everyday lives andfutures of foster children. In 1994, armed with awell-devised plan and six years of experience, theysat down and wrote their first-ever grant proposal. It was Northwest Children’s Fund that answeredtheir request.each organization, we are able to pinpoint theprograms that have the greatest potential to endthe cycle of child abuse and neglect. This ensuresyour donation dollars are spent as effectively aspossible. As we move ahead, we look forward to growingour relationships with the Northwest’s premierchild-welfare organizations. We also look forwardto working with the next great organization, lending support as they take their first importantsteps toward helping vulnerable children andfamilies find safe, full and productive lives. The organization was Treehouse – and they arenow celebrating 20 years of working to give fosterchildren a childhood, and a future. Over the years,Northwest Children’s Fund has awarded Treehouseover 330,000 in grants, while Treehouse hasgrown into one of the nation’s leading foster childadvocacy organizations, providing academicsupport and social and recreational enrichment.NWCF is proud to have been supportingTreehouse since its humble beginnings, alongwith other remarkable organizations such asChildhaven, First Place School, and PediatricInterim Care Center. Each year, NWCF receives grant requestsfrom some of the community’s most intelligentorganizations—big and small. Our Board memberswork tirelessly, reviewing grants and conductingsite visits so that they can gain a clearer sense ofthe proposed programs, and effectively gaugethe level of passion and commitment behindeach.
