As you will see when you read thismonth’s newsletter, we have a lot to celebrate!Testing season is fast approaching. Our teachers have been busy ensuringthat our students utilize the FSA practice sites so there will be no surpriseson the day of testing. Please encourage your child to do his or her verybest on all state assessments. We will continue to send messages to remind you of testing dates. Below is a tentative schedule. Camp is open to ALL studentscurrently in grades 6 thru 8. There will be beginningand advanced levels of both concert and jazz band.Beginning Band registration is open to anyone whowould like to learn a band instrument! SummerBand camp is highly recommended. Reading BadgesWhat are Reading Badges you ask? Reading Badges are currently being acquired by the students on thePrinceton Team! Students are working on reading at least 2 books of their choice of genre in order to attaintheir personal reading badge. With over 15 badges to acquire, the race is on! Each student will receive theiracquired badges after completing their books and submitting their Google Docs. The badge is then issuedand attached to their name on a google slide. This allows them to have a "micro-credential", or badge, inthat area. The badges come with incentives and extra credit! The race is on! Who will have the greatestnumber of badges? Only time will tell!Science FairThe Intracoastal Science and Engineering Fair was held February 8th and 9th at the Merritt Square Mall.Nine of Jefferson’s students were recognized at the awards ceremony at Merritt Island High and six studentsplaced in the fair. Winners are Junior Runner Up Best of Show, Physical 1st Place in Physics & Astronomy & abid to State Science and Engineering Fair—Aaron Finch, 3rd Place in Environmental Engineering - MelisaKeiser, 4th Place in Animal Sciences - Mia Trine; 4th Place in Chemistry - Sean Brogan; 4th Place in Environmental Engineering—Hannah Carlson; and 4th Place in Microbiology - Phoenix Sills. Lance Chen in Engineering, Madalyn Driggett in Behavioral & Social Sciences, and Mason Proctor in Intelligent Machines, Robotics &System Software all received recognition for their projects .https://www.brevardschools.org/JeffersonMSPage 3

FPS Team Goes to state!Congratulations to the Jefferson Future ProblemSolvers who earned sixth place at the district competition. The topic was Food Waste. They will becompeting at the state level over Spring Break examining issues surrounding the topic “Coping withStress.” Great job, Lilliana Irby, Savannah Rice,Bisrat Kasshun, and James Baron.Jefferson dramaFor the first time ever, our thespian troupe represented Jefferson at the State Drama Fest. All members ofour troupe earned an Excellent rating in every category they competed in. Students had to perform piecesin front of judges and fellow competitors.Congratulations to the students listed below and theircoach Elizabeth Wilson who volunteers her time. Jefferson Middle SchoolAre you interested in joining a summer PE camp to play team sports withyour fellow classmates?This camp has all of our most requested activitiesflag football, basketball, gatorball, fickle, medic dodgeball, crazy kickball,volleyball, softball, rugby, field hockey, netball, and capture the flag.Who: Open to all current 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.Dates: Week One: June 10-14; Week Two: June 17-21; Week 3: June 24-28Where: Jefferson Middle School Gymnasium (drop off in the bus loop).Time: The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am-1:00pm (All students must bepicked up promptly at 1:00pm in the bus loop).Cost: The camp fees are 55 per week, or 13 a day. Attendance each day is not mandatory.Please make checks payable to: JMS.Lunch:Make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast before coming to the camp. Students will be required to bring their own lunch and beverages. Water bottles are highly encouraged!Please fill out the attached registration form and return it with payment to Coach Butler, Coach Slentz, or the front office.Reserve your spot today!It is suggested that the 1st weeks payment is made prior to May 28th so that we can determine camp numbers. If our numbers are too low we may need to cancel the camp.Payment can also be brought to the front office between May 28 and June 7th.
