From the PresidentIf you’ve been following my running articles, you knowa goal as president this year is to review the TexasLawyer’s Creed and encourage our members to share theirpassion for “Doing what is Right.”The other day a close colleague asked my opinion on ajudge recusal issue. I was able, thankfully, to rattle offenough of Section 2 of the Creed to give my friend theconfidence to proceed with his recusal motion. I found hisconcern and reticence of alienating his relationship withthe judge to be clouding his path of representing his clientunder our Creed’s duties. We all want the favor of the Courts, and we certainly donot want to tick the Judge off just as a matter ensues beforethat official. Yet, my friend was facing exactly that. Whatwas he to do?endure from that judge. His comment to me wasa revelation: “I have theCreed on my wall, right infront of me every day, andI didn’t even think to lookthere.”Theodore D. Ogilvie, PresidentMy friend went on to statethat it had been a long timesince he had read the Creed. I would submit that is the casewith most of us, even though it is framed and hanging onour office walls or attached to each client contract. Take afew minutes and read it over the next month. Then practice it!When I quickly referred him to the preamble of the dutiesin Section 2 of the Creed, it became immediately clear thatthe duty to his client is greater than the disfavor he willMembership hasits privileges!Renew TODAY!DCBA OfficersPresident, Theodore D.
