NURSINGNursing (B.S.N.) Traditional Transfer B.S.N.THE TRADITIONAL TRANSFER B.S.N.Most transfer students require at least six semesters tocomplete the program. Accelerated Second-Degree B.S.N.Admission Requirements Hybrid Online R.N.-to-B.S.N.Admission is competitive and offered for the fall andspring semesters. It is recommended, but not required,that applicants to this program complete the followingNursing prerequisite courses prior to applying:Nurses have an increasingly larger role in the nation’srapidly evolving health care system, and a Bachelor ofScience in Nursing (B.S.N.) opens the door to careeradvancement for these professionals. MarymountUniversity’s Malek School of Health Professionsis a recognized leader in the education of skilled,compassionate health care professionals. The Schooloffers three ways to earn a B.S.N. that are well-suitedfor working adults and career switchers: The Traditional Transfer B.S.N. is designed forstudents with 12 or more college or universitytransfer credits. Upon completion of the program,students are eligible to take the state boardexamination (NCLEX-RN) to become a registerednurse. The Accelerated Second-Degree B.S.N. is forindividuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in anotherfield. Upon completion of the program, students areeligible to take the state board examination (NCLEXRN) to become a registered nurse. The AcceleratedSecond-Degree B.S.N. can be completed in as littleas four consecutive semesters of full-time study. The Hybrid Online R.N.-to-B.S.N. program is forcurrent registered nurses who have an associatedegree or Nursing diploma. This program offersbusy registered nurses the convenience ofcompleting most of the required coursework online,typically supplemented by just two in-person classmeetings per course. Anatomy and Physiology I and II (4 credits each,with lab) Microbiology (4 credits, with lab) General Chemistry (3-4 credits, with or without lab) General Psychology General Sociology StatisticsApplicants must submit all application materials bythe appropriate deadline (see back panel). A completeapplication includes the transfer admission application and 40application fee; official results from the Assessment TechnologiesInstitute Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI-TEAS),a Nursing preadmission exam; official transcripts from all colleges or universitiesattended. Students who have completed college/university coursework outside the U.S. and/orstudents for whom English is a second languageshould visit www.marymount.edu/admissions/international for additional documentationrequirements; one letter of recommendation from a professoror employer; and a brief personal statement.The University’s newest academic building, CaruthersHall, is focused on the health sciences and naturalsciences, and features state-of-the-art teaching andresearch labs. Among them is a cutting-edge healthassessment lab and two nursing skills labs that replicateacute-care hospital settings. The labs feature SMARTBoards and student bedside computers to facilitatepatient assessment and provide instant access to themost current research. One nursing lab offers threehigh-tech patient-simulation modules: an adult, a child,and a baby.In addition, students benefit from clinical placementsthrough the University’s long-established connectionswith the Washington, DC, metropolitan region’s leadinghospitals and health care agencies.Marymount University’s B.S.N. degree also preparesstudents for graduate study, which can be the key tofurther advancement in the health care field.

The ATI-TEAS examis a computer-based exam that tests knowledge in reading,mathematics, science, and English. Only scores officiallysubmitted to Marymount from ATI will be considered.Students who earn a failing score (45 or lower) or wish toimprove their score may retake the exam only once in a twoyear period. In making an admission decision, Marymount looksat the entire application; scores are not the sole determinant.The ATI-TEAS is a national exam. To find a testing location,visit www.atitesting.com. Studyguides for the ATI-TEAS can be purchased in the Marymountbookstore, www.marymountu.bncollege.com, or on the ATIwebsite.Seeking a WaiverStudents who have earned a bachelor’s degree from anaccredited U.S. college or university with a compositeundergraduate GPA of 2.8 or better may be granted a waiverfor the ATI-TEAS. In some instances, students with a compositeGPA above 2.8 may be asked to take the ATI-TEAS. Thecomposite GPA is calculated based upon all undergraduatecredits and quality points; the determination to waive theATI-TEAS can be made by the Office of Admissions upon receiptof all official transcripts. Applicants will be notified of theireligibility for an ATI-TEAS waiver via mail.

THE HYBRID ONLINER.N.-TO-B.S.N. PROGRAMThis program is designed for registered nurses with anassociate degree or Nursing diploma.Admission RequirementsStudents are admitted to this program for the fallsemester only. Applicants must submit all applicationmaterials by the appropriate deadline (see back panel). Acomplete application includes the transfer admission application and 40application fee; official transcripts from all colleges or universitiesattended. Students who have completed college/university coursework outside the U.S. and/orstudents for whom English is a second languageshould visit www.marymount.edu/admissions/international for additional documentationrequirements; a copy of the applicant’s current R.N. license; one letter of recommendation from a professoror employer.Degree RequirementsThe program requires completion of 120 credits forgraduation, 64 of which may be granted from theassociate degree. Students must complete a minimumof 36 credits through Marymount University to earn theB.S.N. degree.All Marymount undergraduate students take coursesin the Liberal Arts Core, which are general educationcourses that will complement and enhance learning in allfields. In many cases, these requirements can be fulfilledthrough transfer credits. While this program’s Nursingcourses are offered online, the Liberal Arts Core classesare offered on campus; for this reason, it is stronglyencouraged that students applying to this program livein Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia.To fulfill the requirements of the major, all studentsin this program will take the following coursework ina sequence determined in collaboration with a facultyadvisor. APPLICATION DEADLINES AND DECISION NOTIFICATIONApplicants to the Traditional Transfer B.S.N. and Accelerated Second-Degree B.S.N. will be reviewed in one ofthree scheduled Nursing Admissions Committee meetings each semester. Students who complete their applicationsin advance of the deadline will be included in the next available review.
