Why is advisement necessary? Why do we do it?STUDENT SUCCESS

How we work withHigh School CounselorsSLCC:Attend counselor staff meetings twice a year, Host a professional developmentevent on campus for counselors and CE coordinators in the spring, Attend districtand state counselor conferences, Attend and participate in high school functions onrequest. Deliver SLCC swag to counselors multiple times/year as a check in.SNOW:Designated CE Adviser for each high school who visits at least once per month.Access to company car for school visits, is given a lap-top to work from the highschools. Becomes the “Go-to person” for that school for all things college (CE,advising, college application week, assembly's, parent teacher conferences, etc. )UVU:Annual visits to high school counseling offices, Invite to our annual CE professionaldevelopment conference, Attend K-16 counselor conference, Participate in schoolfunctions (assemblies, parent night, scholars night, etc.) by request, Provide“awards” lunch to school with high enrollments.

Do CE students really need to see both theirHigh School Counselor and CE Advisor?SLCC:If a student is taking more than 4 CE courses, approx. 12 credits, we feel an advisingappointment is beneficial. Students need to understand how their courses apply toa college degree, so they can choose courses with a target in mind.SNOW:As CE Advisers we have access to all things Snow College. We do not however, haveaccess to the requirements each student needs for HS graduation. Thus theCounselor/CE Adviser/Student communication is critical. Especially for thosestudents pursuing 12 credits.UVU:Yes. Students need to coordinate between both, especially if they are taking a lotof CE credit. Our recommendation is: Any student CAN see an advisor. 12 creditsSHOULD see an advisor. Associate Degree seeking MUST see an advisor.

How we get the word out.Our duties outside traditional advising.
