ELECTRIC SHOCK DROWNING (ESD)Did you know that you are at riskby entering the water near a boator dock powered by electricity? ESDcan be deadly and is the result ofa person coming into contact withan electrical current in the water.Stray voltage can come from boatsor docks with faulty wiring, frayedcords and devices not approved asshore- or marine-rated. It can causecomplete loss of muscle control, theinability to move and, ultimately, lead to drowning.Learn how to protect you and yourfamily from ESD.IF YOU THINK SOMEONE HAS BEEN SHOCKED: Throw in a life ring or other floatation device. Never enter the water. You could become a victim too! Turn off the shore power connection and disconnect power cord frompedestal. Call for help. Use 911 or VHF Channel 16 (as appropriate).HOW TO PREVENT ESD: Do not enter water near a marina or dock. Turn off the shore power connection and/or disconnect power cord frompedestal. If you feel a tingling sensation, get out of the water and report it tostaff. Notify the harbormaster of any electrical safety hazards so they can befixed. Pets are also impacted by ESD. Do not allow your pet to enter the water.ESD is preventable and boaters are a large part of thesolution. The following tips will help alleviate electricalcurrents entering the water:Have a qualified marine electrician: Install an Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter (ELCI) on your boat oruse a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) in the shore power cord. Perform an annual inspection of your boat’s electrical system. Test GFCI and ELCI protection as recommended by the manufacturer. Use power cords that are in good condition and properly rated. Do notuse common household extension cords.this information was taken from the michigan.gov website under their boating section. For moreinformation on ESD please visit their website.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No--it’s a firetruck!Members,You may have noticed an older firetruck lurking in the distance if you wereat the marina in the past week. Yes,it is true we purchased it. No it is nottrue, contrary to a few opinions, thatjust because as a kid we did not havethe financial resources for me to haveTonka toys, I purchased this bright redbehemoth. It came to mind one day as a fire truckwhisked by; what a great multi-purposevehicle. It holds tools, ladders, andcould be the biggest power washeraround. Additionally we could advertisethe harbor, banquet center and North42on the sides by entering local paradesand charity events. Plus, we conceivablymay be able to obtain a permit for a beertapper and ice cream station. Parents onone side of the truck for a treat, kids onthe other side for a treat. Who knows! The possibilities abound. So with that in mind we began thequest of trying to find one that fits ourneeds and fits within our budgetaryconstraints. The self-establishedconstraint requiring that it pays foritself either within a 24 month period,it has an equal residual value within theaforementioned timeframe, or it can beparted out for equal to or greater withinKerry reedythe 24 months. We think we hit theinitial trifecta while allowing for laborsavings, free advertising, and of coursethe giant power washer. Plus, there is acool factor.Harbor DiningNorth 42kitchen BarMembers are welcome to takefull advantage of our on-siterestaurant, North 42!Hours & Phone:Finally, to answer the many similarquestions we have been asked Yes, it does work – it was operational asa working fire truck upon purchase. The lights and siren are fully operational. The horn is definitely very loud.It is known as a “Pumper” – meaningit has a large water holding tank. Inparticular, 1,000 gallons. It will be used as a power washer forstreets, buildings, windows, and possiblyboat bottoms. Additionally, we can spotwater grass that may not be covered byour sprinklers. While it has a 1,000 gallon holdingcapacity, it can actually dispense 1,250gallons per minute.Monday - Thursday: 11 am - 10 pmFriday & Saturday: 11 am - 1 amSunday: 11 am - 9 pmFor reservations & carry-outs:586.329.7880Members breakfastJoin us for a rotatingbreakfast buffet each week inthe Harbor View Bistro!Hours & Pricing:Sundays: 9 am - 12 pmAdults: 12Children (12 & under): 8For reservations: 586.329.7880Poolside & tikiWe plan to offer kids rides on the truckone day forthcoming, once we becometotally comfortable with the truck.
