PROGRAM OUTCOMESTECHNICAL STANDARDSEmployers will expect you, as a Health InformationManagement graduate, to be able to: Apply coding and reimbursement systems.A list of specific physical, emotional, and mentaltasks needed to function as a Health InformationManagement graduate is available at mstc.edu/programs/health-information-management. Supervise various components of the healthinformation system.CLINICAL-RELATED REQUIREMENTS Demonstrate professional behaviors and ethics. Apply information technology and analytics in data use. Apply data governance principles to ensure the quality ofhealth data.Prior to placement at a clinical site, students need to pay fora criminal background check through a private vendor andprovide documentation of required health work.TECHNICAL SKILLS ATTAINMENTStudents are responsible for ensuring all requirementsremain current during program enrollment.The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) hasimplemented a requirement that all technical collegesmeasure program outcomes attained by students. Thisrequirement is called Technical Skills Attainment (TSA).The main objective of TSA is to ensure graduates have thetechnical skills needed by employers. Students are notifiedof TSA reporting in their final few courses of the programand will complete a mock RHIT exam to fulfill the TSArequirement for this program.The Health Information Management accreditor of Mid-StateTechnical College is the Commission on Accreditation forHealth Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM).The College’s accreditation for associate degree in HealthInformation Management at the Marshfield campus has beenreaffirmed through 2023.Graduates are eligible to take thenational certification exam offeredby the American Health InformationManagement Association (AHIMA)for the Registered Health InformationTechnician (RHIT) credential. Students with a criminal history may notbe able to complete clinical courses. Mid-State will maketwo attempts to place a student in an appropriate clinicalexperience. If Mid-State is unable to place the student aftertwo attempts, the student will be withdrawn from the clinicalcourse and will not be able to advance in the program.PROGRAM PROGRESSION AND COMPLETIONIn order to progress in and successfully complete theprogram, students must: Repeat courses not completed with a “C” or betterprior to progressing in core courses or other courseswith co- or prerequisites. Receive a grade of “C” or better in all courses requiredfor graduation.A student may repeat the same course only once in theHealth Information Management program. If the course isfailed a second time, the student will be withdrawn fromthe Health Information Management program. If a HealthInformation Management student fails four separateprogram courses, the student will be withdrawn from theprogram. Failures will include failing the same course orfailing different courses.
